Opis:
The article deals with the concept of work as reflected in the Fourth Gospel, encompassing the two cognate lexemes ἐργάζομαι and ἔργον. The analysis is organized according to the subjects who are performing a given work, to wit: the Father, the Son, Jesus’ disciples (including Abraham) and, finally, the people hostile toward God, designated in the Gospel by the general term world. Interestingly enough, both of the studied lexemes appear in John’s Gospel only on the lips of Jesus. Additionally, as it turns out, the Johannine concept of work covers a whole range of meanings: the activity of the Father and the Son (who give life and perform judgment), the salvific mission of the Son, Jesus’ teaching and his obedience to the Father’swill, miraculous healings, human deeds in general (both good or bad), disciples’ fulfillment of God’s will, meaning primarily their faith in Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God. In a nutshell, the very essence of the work of the Father and the Son (and continued by Jesus’ disciples) can be encapsulated in the concept of salvation.

Gospel of John
Opis:
John 3:16 is undoubtedly one of the best known and most beloved verses in all of Scripture. At the same time, when ripped from its literary, historical and theological contexts as it so often is, this verse can become merely a pious, sentimental saying bereft of its true, earth-shaking message. Thus this study provides not only an exegetical analysis of the verse, but also the exposition of its various contexts: literary (the interchange between Jesus and Nicodemus on the entrance into the kingdom of God), historical (the destruction of the Jerusalem temple and the worldwide mission of the early Church) and theological (the OT, NT and John’s Gospel concepts of God’s universal love). God’s love for the world, and the salvific mission flowing from it, are most beneficially viewed from a salvation-historical perspective, as the core Trinitarian outreach in which all are called to take part by putting faith in Jesus.

Opis:
The relationship between eternity and time has been a perennial issue in Johannine studies. Consider that the pre-existent Word of God enters in time and within concrete human history, thus bridging eternity and time. The evangelist describes both Jesus’ divinity as the Logos, existing in an  eternal, timeless “beginning” (1:1), and Jesus’ true humanity as the historical person who was made “flesh” (1:14), taking on the human condition in all its fragility, in its temporality, suffering and death. His earthly mission was fulfilled “in time” – in a concrete “hour”. Reading the Fourth Gospel in this light may help us appreciate the Johannine understanding of eternity and time. This survey presents the various interpretations of the expression “in the beginning” and also of the time-related noun “hour”, used by the evangelist on certain occasions with detailed precision: “it was about the tenth hour” (1:39); “it was about the sixth hour” (4:6; 19:14); and “at the seventh hour” (4:52), referring always to a particular chronological point in time. However, this article does not place undue emphasis on the  numbers recounting the particular hour, but rather tries to identify the links of each hour with the accompanying words and deeds of Jesus.
Relacja między wiecznością a czasem jest przedmiotem nieprzerwanych studiów Janowych. Odwieczne Słowo Boże wkracza bowiem w czas i w konkretną historię ludzkości, łącząc wieczność i czas.

Opis:
The subject of the present study is the words of Jesus presented in John 5:39: “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about Me.” A larger apologetic speech of Jesus constitutes the immediate context of this statement; within the structure of the Fourth Gospel this discourse follows the description of the healing of the paralytic at the Bethesda Pool (cf. John 5:1-47). The monologue is the response of Jesus to certain Jews who strongly objected to his activity during the Sabbath day and to Jesus’ likening himself to the Father. Exchanging arguments in his own defence, Jesus quotes the testimony of the Scriptures. Investigation of the Old Testament texts clearly points to Jesus, and thus His claims to take action on a holy day are fully justified.

The present article deals with the essential message of the Fourth Gospel which is based on the relation between Father and Son. The main motive of this article is the last verse of the Prologue (Jn 1:18) which appears like leitmotive in the various contexts of the Gospel of John. In the first part of the article the author describes the relation between Father and Son in the Fourth Gospel. He stresses especially a deep communion between them which determines the function of Son as the Revealer of His Father. In the second part of the article the author makes analysis on the function of Jesus as the Revealer of Father. This function can be seen especially in His words and acts. The main goal of this function is the faith of the Jesus’ disciples in God who is the loving Father and Donor of salvation. In the power of faith every human being can recognize in Jesus the face of Father whose main feature is Love until the mystery of the Cross.

Opis:
The article addresses the issue of the witness of the Father about Jesus in the Fourth Gospel. The topic is inscribed in the very essential theological message of the Gospel of John, according to which Jesus is the Messiah and the Son of God revealing the Father to the world. In two units of the Fourth Gospel (5:1-47 and 8:12-20) Jesus invokes the witness of the Father in order to prove his divine status. In the first passage Jesus argues that the witness of the Father about him is expressed by the witness of the people (John the Baptist), by Jesus’ works, and by the Scriptures. In the second passage he claims that the Father’s witness authenticates his divine origins, and that thanks to his status as the Son of God he is not subject to human judgment. In a third passage (12:20-36) examined in the article the voice of the Father coming from heaven gives the explicit witness confirming Jesus’ divine status and mission. The motif of the witness of the Father is strictly connected here with the theme of the salvific activity of Jesus in the world as a means of increasing the glory of God.
