Opis:: The potential of biofuel application on rail transport for reducing the dependence on using the non-renewable diesel fuel and improving the environmental characteristics of the locomotive have been considered. The technique of comparative research concerning fuels on the rheostat and through operational tests has been offered. The methods of measuring harmful emissions with exhaust gases and the use of existing methods of controlling the fuel consumption have been developed. The conclusion about the prospects of using on diesel locomotives first the additives to the diesel fuel the biofuels of the first generation (biodiesel), and in future, the fuel of the second generation (synthetic biofuels) has been made.

Opis:: In the article one of the ways of reducing of fuel consumption at railways is explored. It is shown, that now there is possibility of substantial (5-10%) improvement of traction-economical characteristics of multi-sectional diesel locomotives due to the use of the microprocessor systems of control, which correlate diesel-locomotive characteristic and provide the asynchronous condition of operations of Diesel-generators in dependence on the conditions of traffic of train.

Opis:: This article discusses the proposed method for diagnosing diesel fuel equipment. An analysis of available methods for diagnosing fuel equipment has been carried out. The authors describe their method for diagnosing plunger pairs of a highpressure fuel pump according to the parameter of displacement of the injector needle. The design of the diagnostic device for measuring the movement of the injector needle has been developed and patented. The dependence of the maximum displacement of the injector needle on the increase, due to wear, of the radial clearance of the plunger bushing at the minimum steady state of idling of the engine has been determined. The technique of diagnosing the technical condition of plunger pairs of a high-pressure fuel pump by injector needle displacement is considered in detail.

Opis:: The use of internal combustion engines increase environmental pollution and dependence on fossil fuels. The biodiesel fuel, which is renewable, more environment friendly, and cheaper, is a good alternative for diesel engines. The use of biodiesel fuel leads to a drop in diesel power and an increase in fuel consumption. To prevent these shortcomings, it is proposed to use dynamic regulation of the percentage composition of a mixture of diesel and biodiesel fuel. The modernization of diesel engines for their transfer to work on a mixture of fuels with a dynamic regulation of its percentage composition is possible at service stations serving diesel engines.

Opis:: Average combustion temperatures inside a turbo diesel engine for the same load and the same total doze of fuel for two rotational speeds: 2004 [rpm] and 4250 [rpm] are presented in this paper. The aim of this work is also the evaluation of the influence of the temporary course of the fuel injection characteristics on forming temperature in the engine cylinder space for these temperatures. The calculations were carried out by means of two zone combustion model .
W pracy zostały przedstawione obliczenia średniej temperatury spalania wewnątrz doładowanego silnika z zapłonem samoczynnym, dla tego samego obciążenia i tej samej sumarycznej dawki paliwa dla dwóch prędkości obrotowych: 2004[min"1] oraz 4250[min"1]. Celem realizowanej pracy była również ocena wpływu chwilowego przebiegu charakterystyki wtrysku paliwa na kształtowanie się temperatury w przestrzeni cylindra silnika dla tych prędkości. Obliczenia zostały przeprowadzone przy zastosowaniu dwustrefowego modelu procesu spalania.

Opis:: Having replaced the diesel locomotives operated in Lithuanian railways by new ones, part of old diesel locomotives (21 units) were renovated. They were equipped with new diesel engines made in Kolomna (Russia). These diesel locomotives are used as reserve locomotives or for carrying small scope freight on local routes. After a few years from their renovation diesel engines as well as the locomotives started to fail. Failures happened to be repeated. The article analyses these locomotives’ failure patterns such as number distribution of engine failures according to locomotive mileage, distribution of engine failures according to diesel locomotive turnover, distribution of engine failure number according to consumed fuel. It suggested to regard the density of engine failure probability according to consumed fuel as one of the indicators of engine reliability.
Po zastąpieniu lokomotyw spalinowych pracujących w kolejach litewskich przez nowe cześć ze starych lokomotyw spalinowych (21 jednostek) zostało odnowionych. Wyposażono je w nowe silniki spalinowe wyprodukowane w Kołomnie (Rosja). Te lokomotywy spalinowe są używane jako lokomotywy rezerwowe lub do przewozu małego zakresu towarowego po trasach lokalnych. Po kilku latach od ich renowacji silniki spalinowe oraz lokomotywy zaczęły się psuć. Awarie zaczęły się powtarzać. Artykuł przedstawia awarie tych lokomotyw, rozkład liczby awarii silnika zgodnie z przebiegiem lokomotywy, dystrybucję awarii silnika według przebiegu lokomotywy spalinowej, rozkład liczby awarii silnika zgodnie ze zużytym paliwem. Sugeruje się wzięcie pod uwagę gęstości prawdopodobieństwa awarii silnika, zgodnie ze zużytym paliwem, jako jednego ze wskaźników niezawodności silnika.
