Opis:
When the sexual abuse crisis exploded in the Irish Church, the canonical expertise, experience and the administrative processes for dealing with and managing complaints and suspicions of child sexual abuse by clergy were simply not fit for purpose. Addressing the crisis in the Irish Church required not only a canonical but a multidimensional response involving pastoral supports to victims and other parties, preventative measures, education, guidelines, policies, procedures, training and monitoring. Four sets of guidelines (1996, 2005, 2008, 2016) document the Irish Church’s increasingly robust efforts to address this crisis supplemented by the clearer universal norms issued by the Holy See. The article highlights some of the significant developments in the guidelines and canonical legislation: the paramountcy principle; the issue of recognitio and the binding authority of these guidelines. The nature and value of guidelines is that it they can never be completely definitive, and are continually evolving to reflect changes in the statutory context, best practice, in canon law or otherwise as these arise.

German Synodal Way
Christianity in Europe
the crisis of the Church
self-destruction of the German Church
necessary reforms in the Catholic Church
Opis:
Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, the closest associate of Pope Benedict XVI, theologically as if his Alter-Ego, is certainly one of the best experts in the Catholic Church in Germany. And it is he who compares the present condition of this Church to the catastrophe of such a huge and luxurious Titanic, which, however, is slowly sinking, because those responsible turned out to be reckless and did  not predict the worst. Indeed, so far the application of almost all criteria that apply to the evaluation of a religious community has shown that, in fact, since the Second Vatican Council, this Church has been losing its vitality and shrinking. However, the so-called Synodal Way has deteriorated even more dramatically in recent times. Its agenda includes goals and demands that are contrary to both Revelation and the Tradition of the Church, and that are contrary to common sense. These are the goals and demands that  have been made by even extreme left and atheistic ideologues and politicians, and which are now to move to the center and  foundations of church teaching. It seems that just as almost all English bishops in the 16th century succumbed to the state violence of King Henry VIII and betrayed  Christ and the Church, today the vast majority of German clergymen succumb to ideological violence in the area of culture and the state and thus betray their own faith and betray Church and Christ. It seems that many of them are close to the ideas of Georg Wilhelm Hegel, who considered himself wiser and greater than all, also than Christ, and the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche, who wanted to replace the crucified Messiah with Dionysus – a patron of, among other things, debauchery. It seems that many of the faithful and clergy in Germany also want to carry out a sexual revolution in the Church as if the second Reformation, perhaps even more catastrophic than the first. It seems that they are putting gender theory in place of Revelation and Christianity. And gender is, in fact, another neo-Marxist pansexual ideology which elevates eroticism as if it were the most important value, more important  especially than God and one’s own salvation. One has to ask, how could such a great spiritual catastrophe of a Church that was once so numerous, so strong, so faithful and creative? We must ask what to do so that no more Church would destroy itself so that such a spiritual disease would not spread to other Churches. This article tries to answer these fundamental questions. It does so by analyzing the cultural, historical, national, economic, spiritual and religious conditions of German society that led to such an advanced process of self-destruction of the  Church.

This study begins with a brief outline of the essence of the whole encyclical Caritas in veritate. Benedict XVI expresses the desire for „the dialogue with the world”. He understands this dialogue as a special kind of the service of the Church towards eternal love and truth, fully revealed in Christ. The dialogue of the Church with the world, in the spirit of love and truth, is accomplished every day at the level of so-called official relations. There are numerous opinions that in the past the Church repeatedly neglected the dialogue with the world. Indeed, the Church historians point out the existence of examples of the fall of the authority of the Holy See in particular countries and circumstances. Similarly, the Church is the sign of objection in the contemporary world. Instructed by past experiences the Church is aware that what is necessary for the renewal of culture and society, is evangelical love and truth.

Edith Stein is widely recognised as a saint, a martyr, a victim of the Holocaust and a female philosopher – but can she be a Doctor of the Church? So far, thirty-seven figures, including four women, carry the title due to their so-called ‘eminent doctrines’, eminentes doctrinae. For centuries, a procedural difficulty existed in awarding the titles to martyrs, however, in the second decade of the 21st century, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints reached a conclusion that martyrdom is not, in principle, an obstacle in awarding the title. A question, therefore, can be posed: does the legacy of someone among the Christian martyrs fulfill the criteria of the Church’s Doctorate? The aim of this article is to investigate the criteria for conferral of the title of the Doctor of the Church, prime among which is a criterion called eminens doctrina, and apply them to one example, that of Edith Stein. In doing so, I consider the question purely historically and philosophically, starting out with definitions of the Father of the Church and the Doctor of the Church in part one (available below). In the second part of the article (available in 2024), I ask what aspects of the female martyr’s theology, philosophy and spirituality fulfill the criteria of an eminent doctrine, as formulated in the Church’s documents, and which are insufficient or lacking. In order to highlight the nature of a particular criterion, I contrast Stein’s case with other recently debated cases, such as those of Irenaeus of Lyons and John Paul II.

Research problem: in the XXI century the values of the consumer society are not only underestimated by human spiritual needs, but also by the person and his religious dimensions. There is a need for the Church to respond to the various forms of anthropological crisis (AC), especially in Catholic schools (CS), to help educators understand the expression of the existing AC by recognizing it and  by being prepared to have a response, hence conveying it to the younger generation. This research, which have not been discussed on the theoretical level, will help define AC (there are many different descriptions of this phenomenon, but there is no unified  definition), presenting its expression and formulating the Church’s response to forms of AC in CS. The role of the educator is becoming very important, in answering the question: How will the pupils receive the response and what position will they take in this respect through their learning in the CS? This research is important for the Catholic religious education, at least on the  theoretical level; there will be a clear expression of the AC of the XXI century and the Church’s response to its forms in an attempt to define the role of the educator in this perspective.

The Author of article provides an important information about parent catechesis from Catholic perspective. He reminds the basis of parent catechesis, beginning with the historical importance and explanations contained in the Church Documents: “Parents are the primary educators in the faith. Together with them, especially in certain cultures, all members of the family play an active part in the education of the younger members’ (General Directory for Catechesis255). If parents are the most important persons of the education of children in the faith, they need to be well prepared for fulfilling their mission that includes especially treating catechesis as lifelong process, the learning of Christian doctrine andmethods of family catechesis, permanent formation of mothers and fathers into the fullness of Christian life. The conclusion presents main challenges and advocates an intensification of catechetical activity in our times.

Shaping the Christian vision of moral life, Pope Benedict XVI referred to the anthropology centred around the Biblical vision of man. The first and fundamental thesis of the revealed anthropology is the truth about the dignity of a human person. Nevertheless, in today’s world one can observe certain symptoms of the lack of respect for self-dignity and dignity of other people. Being aware of this fact, in his teachings, Benedict XVI pointed out the value of human dignity; he promoted it and presented a genuine vision of personal dignity. Man and his dignity was the first principle, “so to say heart and soul” of the moral teachings of Pope Benedict XVI.

Modern enterprises operate on the basis of the Industry 4.0 paradigm. Technology is becoming an inherent attribute of the economy, but at the same time, one should bear in mind the employees, who create enterprises, and the spiritual side, so as to maintain a balance between what is tangible and intangible. Religion and spirituality are intertwined and have an impact on business practice and corporate management. Research on a group of young people has shown that faith plays a vital role in running a business. Moreover, the sustainability and uninterrupted activity of the Church can be a model for many companies. Subordinating one’s own affairs and individual ambitions to the common good and higher values, is the direction which managers of modern institutions can follow. Such an enterprise needs a leader, a charismatic leader who, as an intangible asset, will primarily see the value of the employees entrusted to him, and only then, the material value of the company. The personnel function and the humanistic approach are the key aspects of a well-functioning enterprise. The article analyses the role of St. Peter in managing the Church, and indicates the possibility of managing modern enterprises based on Church experience.

They take actions that, despite a difference in religion, guide children to form a moral conscience, proper interpersonal relations, and educate them about love, that should be based on truth. In mixed denominational families, the transmission of moral upbringing takes place in the spirit of ecumenism, which means that, despite the threats that may arise, the testimony of Christian love and unity speaks out even stronger.

This article presents the way John Paul II, the head of the Vatican at the beginning of the third millennium, theologically and philosophically substantiates and establishes the principles of a new humanism through the dialogue between the Church and art as the most personalized sphere of human activity. The conceptual essence of the key idea of the humanizing function of art, in the personalistic philosophy of art of John Paul II is revealed from the methodological standpoint of religious studies. It determines the particular nature and tasks of the renewed dialogue between the Church and artists, aimed to overcome the processes of  depersonalization and dehumanization of culture, caused by atheistic humanism and growing increasingly during the 20th century. The author ponders on The Letter of Pope John Paul II to Artists and Towards a Pastoral Approach to Culture, two papal documents. Their appearance on the eve of the 2000th anniversary of Christianity became symbolic. These documents draw attention because, firstly, although the idea of a dialogue between the Church and artists as a way of embodying spiritual values of a new humanism in the theological and philosophical discourse of John Paul II had been formed over several decades, it found its conceptual solution precisely in these two papal documents. Secondly, it is in these two documents that the essence of the cultural policy of the 264th Pope is consistently set forth, meant to overcome the consequences of atheistic humanism and create a new humanism, and thus to overcome the civilizational anthropological crisis and develop a new ideological paradigm of the third millennium.
