Opis:
The presented study aims to compare occupational stress of 50 teachers and 56 firefighters. Both these groups are laden with high exposure to work-related stress. For assessing the occupational load the Meister questionnaire was used. We found that teachers percieved their occupational stress worse than firefighters and reached the 2nd degree of load. They complained mostly about the factor of overload and factors of the stress reactions – fatigue, mental overload and unacceptability to perform pedagogical work in the same intensity for a long time. Firefighters achieved better results (1st degree of load), even better than the population norm. An explanation may be found in the fact that firefighters represent a selected population of emotionally, psychically and physically resistant individuals.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to analyze the quality of life (QOL) of 142 primary school teachers and 145 firemen-rescuers. To determine QOL we used a WHOQOL-BREFF questionnaire. Teachers’ QOL was significantly lower in all four domains when compared with firefighters’ QOL; however, it did not differ statistically from the Czech population norms. Significantly lower compared to the norm was only teachers’ satisfaction with their health. Our results showed a significant influence of profession, age and gender on QOL. The influence of subjectively perceived mental stress as a factor reducing the QOL was manifested only in teachers. The explanation for this difference in QOL could be predicting better physical and mental health of firefighters.

Opis:
A child's entry into primary school is an important life event for parents that is accompanied not just by the child’s expectations but also those of the parents themselves. We have attempted to interpret them in the present study, which presents the results of a quantitative research investigation conducted through random multi-stage stratified sampling based on analysing relevant surveys and building on the authors' previous qualitative investigations. The sample studied was 504 parents of pupils in Years 1 and 2 who attended selected primary schools in the 2020/2021 school year. The main data collection tool was an online questionnaire that mapped primary school choice strategies and parents' expectations of the school, schooling, and teachers. These factors were then examined in relation to the variable choice of an educational program and parents' attitudes toward education (an academic approach versus a personalistic one). We found that parents' expectations of school choice are principally divided according to whether respondents believe school should fulfil the more traditional role of education or whether they prefer their children to develop their personalities and seek an alternative educational program or school for their offspring.

Recently, a great deal of attention has been paid globally to education of both children and youth. It has been the result of ever-growing requirements of learners’ knowledge, as well as educational cultivation of young people. Contemporary society has been witnessing undesirable actions of learners against teachers. That is why the paper discusses learners’ interactions with teachers and how they are assessed by teachers. The paper also introduces implications for improving the quality of teachers’ interventions in educational processes.

The study focuses on the implementation of inquiry-based science education (IBSE) within the 7FP ESTABLISH project and its impact on pupils. The project included the creation of education units and realization of courses for teachers with the goal of educating teachers on IBSE. This was then followed by the implementation of IBSE education units into the teaching schedule of teachers who completed the respective courses. The impact of IBSE on pupils was evaluated using adopted and adjusted evaluation tools. The evaluation focused on the impacts on pupils’ intrinsic motivation for learning natural sciences, understanding the importance of natural sciences for society and pupils’ epis- temological beliefs. The study discusses the results obtained in Slovakia and focuses especially on gender differences.

The study is one of the outputs of the project APVV - 16-0573 Application of the Model of Andragogical Counselling in the context of professionalization of the teaching profession. The aim of this part of the research was to find differences in life satisfaction of teachers and compare them depending on their position - managerial position vs. non-managerial position. The study is based on the conception of professional development as a continuous process including all dimensions of teacher personality development. The contribution presents results obtained from a modified Questionnaire of Life Satisfaction, while concentrating on identification of various factors in eight areas of the professional life of teachers at the given time for participants of continuing education (N 228, average age 43 years). It was found that respondents reported average to above average satisfaction in all areas studied. The highest level of satisfaction was expressed in the areas of health and relationship with pupils. They were least satisfied with their remuneration.

The study presents results of research conducted by means of the BPAQ and Cyber-Bullying Tolerance questionnaires on a sample of 788 elementary school pupils of the 8th and 9th grades. It shows an increase in verbal aggression, hostility and anger in the pupils. In terms of gender, the increase was confirmed in verbal aggression in boys and physical aggression in girls. Tolerance to cyber-bullying as a form of aggressive behaviour increases with the development of science and technology and the increase in pupils´ aggressive behaviour. Knowledge of manifestations and causes of pupils´ aggressive behaviour is the basis for the educational work of teachers and other professionals.

This paper discusses the usefulness of methodological seizing based on the logistic Rasch model in constructing of a new diagnostic tool: POA questionnaire (Pomiar Osobowości Autorskiej) is designed to examine the author’s personality based on Kazimierz Obuchowski’s personality theory. Basic foundations of the Rasch model will be presented, the information of theoretical and empirical bases of the new tool and example-results obtained using this model with reference to the created personality questionnaire. A theoretical basis of the psychological measurement was item response theory (IRT) – one of the theories of latent classes. The Rasch model comes from this theory. The psychometric properties of the data based on 2316 people investigated were analyzed using the computer programmes WINMIRA (supported by SPSS) and Mixed Rasch Model (MIRA). Both programmes were then used for scale development and validation. WINMIRA was used to examine the degree of fitting of the model to the POA questionnaire. Then it was possible to make the practical valuation of suitable parameters of the Rasch model by maximum likelihood methods using a series of iterative procedures.

The scientific study theoretically and empirically verifies the new construct of moral intelligence. Following its theoretical analysis, it offers the first findings from verification of psychometric properties of the tool for measuring moral intelligence, the Moral Competence Inventory (MCI) by D. Lennick and F. Kiel. Factor analysis of the Slovak version of the MCI proved the existence of 15 factors with acceptable variability, which, however, is not in agreement with 10 factors determined by the authors. Also, its insufficient reliability (in terms of internal consistency and stability of results in time (test-retest reliability estimate)) indicates that the current form of the MCI should be subjected to further scientific-research verification.

The study is a part of the research on the couching method as a tool for adult personality development related to the managerial potential development. The aim was to find out differences between subjectively and objectively measured levels of managerial potential in a research sample and to compare differences in their positions as managers and non-managers. The study was based on the conception of managerial potential development. The article gives results of the Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) where the managerial potential was measured in seven competencies. The results were compared with the research sample’s self-assessment in a questionnaire of own design. The finding was that managers achieved better results in objectively measured competencies than in subjectively measured competencies. They scored highest in the objectively measured managerial competence Inquisitive and lowest in the objectively measured managerial competence Adjustment. Candidates achieved better results in objectively measured competencies than in subjectively measured competencies. They scored highest in the objectively measured managerial competence Interpersonal Sensitivity and lowest in the objectively measured managerial competence Adjustment. In subjective self-assessment, managers achieved higher mean scores than candidates in the competence Ambition. Managers, again, scored higher than candidates in subjective assessment of the competence Inquisitive. In subjective assessment, candidates scored highest in the managerial competence Interpersonal Sensitivity and lowest in the managerial competence Learning Approach. There were no statistically significant differences between managers and candidates for managerial positions in the managerial potential.

The replication study offers research findings from verification of the construct validity of social intelligence by the Slovak MESI scale (Manipulation, Empathy, Social Irritability - MESI, Frankovský, Birknerová, 2014) by means of confirmatory factor analysis, and by convergent/discriminant validity by the trait emotional intelligence questionnaire (Petrides, 2009) in two samples (secondary school students: N = 134, Mage = 17.7 years old /SD = 0.47/, 66% women; university students: N = 138, Mage = 21.52 years old /SD = 1.81/, 77% women). Results of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirm the three-factor solution of the MESI scale (extracted factors of Manipulation, Empathy, Social Irritability) in accordance with the authors’ original solution in both samples. Trait emotional intelligence (EI) and its four factors enter into significant positive relationships with Empathy (convergent validity) and negative relationships with Social Irritability (discriminant validity). The global level of trait EI can be predicted by the factor of Empathy and Social Irritability in both research samples. Our findings confirm substantiation of the MESI scale for assessment of social intelligence, and its possible application in targeted educational interventions in a school environment.

Opis:
The study is based on the research analyses of K.V. Petrides’ (2011) trait emotional intelligence construct verified by his Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-TEIQue. Verification of the EI trait construct by stepwise regression analysis confirmed that it is determined only to a certain extent by the Big Five personality factors theory (14%) (by the TIPI questionnaire, Gosling, 2003) and by perception and experiencing of positive (15%) and negative (13%) mental states (by the SEHW questionnaire, Džuka & Dalbert, 2002). Thus, the emotional intelligence trait as a consistent construct partially captures individual variability of emotional aspects otherwise scattered across personality theories.
