The contribution brings an analysis of transformational leadership among Slovak secondary education teachers in comparison with ideas of student teachers. The research sample consists of secondary education teachers (N = 142) and student teachers (N = 142). Data are obtained from the Slovak version of the LPI/Leadership Practices Inventory. Results indicate statistically significant differences in three dimensions favouring students against teachers: Model the Way, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act. Slovak students consider transformational leadership practices essential as Slovak teachers apply them in their daily practice. Results are discussed mainly from the perspective of ontogenetic and educational practice.

Schools traditionally operate under a meritocratic system. Those children who fulfil systemic merit deserving criteria are selected as leaders within the school system. Furthermore, it is these children who stand the best chance to gain access to leadership positions once they have left school. Their silk is seen and acknowledged. They have the track record that organisations look at as first selection criteria when they are looking to appoint school leavers with an eye on promotion to leadership positions. This article specifically looks at the issues and develops them in terms of the metaphor of ‘the silk of leadership’.

The 2013 Curriculum Reform and its effect on school practices remain a challenge for Indonesia since the roles of school leadership remain unaddressed. This study aimed to examine the effect of school leadership on instructional practices and student learning. This cross-sectional survey collected data from 1,082 students and 180 teachers from randomly selected 40 junior secondary school principals. Employing education production function models, this study found that the quality of school leadership had impacts on teachers’ ability to create student-centered instruction and consequently on student learning. Results suggest that school reforms would be even more successful, among other things, through establishing school principals as professional agents of change that help teachers transform their instructional behavior and improve learning.

This study was done in order to determine the leadership roles displayed by physical education teachers working in primary and secondary education institutions in Turkey. The sample group of the study included 170 physical education teachers working in these educational institutions. So as to determine the ideas of the sample group, the scale form developed by Beycioğlu (2009) in order to determine the teachers’ perceptions and expectations related to teacher leadership was used. At the end of the study, a statistically significant relation was found in the ideas of the teachers in terms of school type variance in the “Institutional Development” dimension and age variance in the “Collaboration with Colleagues” and “Professional Development” dimensions. In all the dimensions, for gender, educational status and professional service period variances, no statistical significant relation could be found. As a result, it is determined that in order to increase leadership behaviors of the physical education teachers, measures should be taken by managers and studies about improving leadership behaviors with education supervisors’ counseling applications and in-service training for physical education teachers should be increased.

The purpose of this study was to predict the effectiveness of Zahedan elementary school principals based on the triple factors of position in the Fiedler leadership model. The presented study was a descriptive correlational study in which 356 elementary school teachers were studied with stratified randomized sampling through two questionnaires including determining the leadership situation and the effectiveness of school administrators. The correlation coefficient and simultaneous multiple regression were used for data analysis with the help of SPSS software. Based on results, there was a positive and significant relationship between the three factors of leadership position (authority, leader-member relationship, duty structure). The results of multiple regression analysis also showed that the three situational factors can predict the effectiveness of school principals. Therefore, it can be concluded that school administrators should benefit from good authority, have good interactions with teachers and emphasize the structure of tasks to increase their effectiveness.

The aim of this study was to investigate servant leadership as a predictor of high school principals’ organizational trust. A correlational research method was utilized in this study. The sample population consisted of 103 subjects, of whom 52 were male and 51 female. Page and Wong’s servant leadership questionnaire and Ellonen, Blomqvist and Puumalainen’s Organizational Trust questionnaire were used. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.90 for the servant leadership questionnaire and 0.93 for the organizational trust questionnaire. Pearson’s correlation coefficient and stepwise regression were utilized for data analysis. Results revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between servant leadership and organizational trust. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that among the components of servant leadership, components create a spirit of leadership (35%) in the first step while the prospective component (6%) in the second step was the most predictive of organizational trust. In fact, these two components together explained 41% of the variance in organizational trust.

Opis:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between distributed leadership and job self-efficacy with the mediating role of academic optimism of the teacher. This study is applied and correlation research based on structural equation modeling. 281 teachers of Zahedan city were selected using stratified random sampling. To collect information, three questionnaires were used: distributed leadership (Gholami, Sahranavard, & Azizi, 2014), job self-efficacy (Riggs & Knight, 1994) and teacher’s academic optimism (Beard, Hoy, & Woolfolk, 2010). For data analysis the Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated using SPSS and structural equation modeling was done using Lisrel software. Based on the results the direct effect of distributed leadership on job self-efficacy (β=0.33), the direct effect of distributed leadership on teacher’s academic optimism (β=0.76) and the direct effect of teacher’s academic optimism on job self-efficacy (β=0.42) was found to be significant. The indirect effect of distributed leadership on job self-efficacy was also found to be significant with the mediating role of organizational laziness (β=0.352). Therefore, it can be concluded that through applying a distributed leadership style in schools (with regard to trust-based leadership, a democratic climate, comprehensive support, and teachers’ professional development) the level of teachers’ academic optimism increases. With an increase in teachers’ academic optimism, their job performance can be expected to improve.

This quantitative study aimed at establishing the effect that the type of leadership style adopted by the head teacher has on the employed tutor’s satisfaction. The study sample comprised 11 school head teachers and 109 tutors. The research utilized two tools in the collection of data, the first of which was used for head teachers and the other for tutors in the institution. The research instrument used to collect data in relation to this dependent variable was a Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) questionnaire. This tool comprises 29 questions with Likert-type items that deal with job satisfaction. The results of the study show that the leadership style employed by the head teacher does not affect tutor satisfaction in a statistically significant way.
