Children’s game makes a part of children’s lives. The paper provides partial results of empirical research focused on children’s game in the home and school environment. The character of the empirical research was diagnostic and quantitative. The subject of the research was children’s game and its implementation for children under 12 years of age. There were 218 individual respondents from all over Slovakia who participated in the individual interviews. They gave oral answer to questions about the game in their childhood and the way it way realized. Here we also present the approach of teachers and psychologists. Due to political-pedagogical character, we divided the game and the respondents into three categories according to the age and childhood.

This study aimed to determine whether liking of children is correlated with and a predictor of attitudes toward children’s rights. Data were collected from 270 preservice early childhood teachers studying at one of public universities in Turkey. Results indicated that pre-service early childhood teachers’ liking of children was significantly correlated with their attitudes toward children’s rights, r = .364, p < .01 and that attitudes toward children’s rights were significantly predicted by liking of children, F(1,240) = 36.58, p < .01. A little more than 13% of the variance of attitudes toward children’s rights was accounted for by its linear relationship with liking of children.

Many European children begin to learn a (foreign) language at a very early age, and early foreign language learning has thus evolved into a paradigm that seems to have settled as a steady companion of everyday school life. The aim of this contribution, which addresses the topic of early foreign language learning from the participant’s, i.e. the student’s, point-of-view, is to determine students’ reasons for learning a foreign language, as articulated by the students themselves. The research analysis will investigate the motivational aspects that influence learning, and will also illustrate and interpret the research results of a study in which approx. 300 students aged 6-10 years from 9 different countries participated. The analysis will not be country specific, but will highlight common motivational features that recur in all the students’ replies and reveal – as expected-not a linguistic, but a decisively pragmatic focus in the process of language learning.

Ample research has been done on rumination and mental health. However, minimum effort has been exerted to investigate these variables among parents of differently-abled children. The presented study investigates the relationship between rumination and mental health among parents of differently-abled children. The study also aimed to revisit the psychometric characteristics of the rumination scale. Two hundred parents were selected from different rehabilitation schools of the Kashmir Valley. The mean age and standard deviation of the respondents were 40.04 and 5.31, respectively. Results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) indicated that model fit for the rumination scale was poor (c2 /df = 2.33; CFI =.65; AGFI;.76; RMSEA;.08; TLI;.61), whereas the model fit of the mental health was excellent. A negative relationship was found between rumination and mental health on the composite score as well as on their dimensions.

Opis:
This paper analysed the social relations of Polish children during the SARSCoV- 2 pandemic. The period of isolation and remote learning was approached as a transitional time using Victor Turner’s concept of liminality. The concept offered a new perspective on children’s experiences during the regime of health protection constraints and the resulting limitations. The research material was collected using focus group interviews with 41 urban children aged 7 and 9 to describe liminal features of their everyday life and characterise their social interactions. The findings reveal the risks and the potential of the pandemic period with respect to the social world and its construction by children. The most important observation concern is that educators and caregivers exploit children’s aversion to mediated interaction and assistance in reconstructing the world of actual interaction of children using creative rituals within the family and at school.

This study, conducted during the pandemic, examined if the occupational situation of parents of children with ASD influenced their parenting role and their children’s participation in therapy. We studied three groups of parents in Poland (n=137): non-employed, stationary workers, and remote workers. We tried to establish how parents assessed their competence in implementing therapy recommendations, their child’s functioning and the need for support using the Parental Stress Scale (PSS) and a questionnaire. Results showed that employment status did not affect perceived parental stress levels. The fulfilment of therapy recommendations was similar in the three groups. However, stationary workers felt more competent doing so. The study groups differed in their assessment of difficulties and expected support.

The paper attempts to answer the question about the relation between the construction of national identity in contemporary world and children’s literature. Qualitative analysis of books for children was made. The main assumption is that stories we tell children create a specific cultural map of narration, thanks to which children create the feeling of identity, which is both individual and social. Contemporary literature for young children, contrary to older books, is devoid of national character.

The subject of the study is preconceptions of pre-primary education children about the selected phenomenon of “learning”. We were interested in whether there are differences in children’s identified preconceptions regarding intellectual abilities. Identifying such a difference could be one indicator of giftedness that could also be useful in early educational diagnostics. The research design was mixed; data were obtained through semi-structured flexible micro-interviews made individually with 39 children. Conclusions of the research investigation point to a difference in cognitive and structural components of children’s identified preconceptions and a difference in terms of their intellectual abilities while confirming the diagnostic potential of children’s preconceptions to reveal giftedness also in children of pre-school age.

This study explores the influence of three psychological factors of the parental monitoring of children’s Internet activity: (i) parents’ perception of the Internet as a source of threat and risk, (ii) parents’ perception of the Internet as a source of benefits, and (iii) family closeness. The sample consisted of 161 parents (20 fathers and 141 mothers) of children aged 7 - 12. Results show that family closeness is the most significant predictor for parental monitoring. The second significant predictor is parents’ perception of the Internet as a source of threat or risk. As expected, the predictors for parental monitoring of children’s Internet activity depend on children’s age.

Opis:
Social media, such as Facebook, play an important role in human life. More and more often we can observe them also finding their way into the world of children, who use them to achieve specific benefits. The research sample consisted of children aged 10-12, namely those who-due to the restrictions in the Facebook regulations-are not allowed to use it. The purpose of the study was to identify the number of children aged 10-12 who use Facebook, as well as how they use this medium. The research findings, obtained in the diagnostic survey and the focus interview, indicate that: the vast majority of the respondents have accounts on Facebook, and the older the child, the greater the probability that he/she has his/her own profile. Girls have more friends and photos on the Facebook profile than boys, and the number of friends grows along with the users’ age. The research results presented in the article are the benchmark for educational activities that should be undertaken in order to regulate the usage of Facebook by children under 13 years of age.

The presented study was carried out in 3 infant schools in Silesia in 2012 with an objective to find out whether parents’ emotional intelligence modifies their children’s adaptation to infant school. Social adjustment was verified in four aspects: emotional functioning, social relations with peers, relation and responsiveness to a teacher, self-reliance and meeting demands. Parents’ emotional intelligence was estimated with the use of an emotional intelligence questionnaire (KBiE). According to the statistic verification, parents’ socio-emotional competences and children’s adaptation are correlated: children whose parents declared emotionally intelligent behavior adapted to infant school better than those brought up by less emotionally intelligent parents.

The article describes research whose aim was to find differences between the social intelligence structure of gifted children and children with no diagnosed giftedness. The social intelligence was determined by TSIS scale enabling its specification into three parts. Social Information Processing and Social Awareness give evidence about the cognitive aspect and Social Skills about the behavioral aspect of social intelligence. There were no statistically significant differences between gifted children and children with no diagnosed giftedness in Social Information Processing. We registered a higher level of Social Awareness and Social Skills in children with no diagnosed giftedness. The results are discussed due to the theoretical background of this study.
