    Recent studies on the role of the eyewitnesses in the formation of the Gospel tradition argue for the singular importance of the original followers of Jesus. Luke himself might reflect their unique standing with his stated reliance on “the eyewitnesses and the servants of the word” (1,2). Still, Luke’s expansion of the Markan call of Peter seems, to many modern scholars at least, precisely that – a literary reworking of the original Markan story. Luke thus appears to resort to literary fiction to confirm the authority of those who guarantee the non-fictional character of his narrative. The conflicting nature of this operation needs to be reexamined. As this article argues, the recent studies on the Lake of Galilee, Simon Peter, and the role of the eyewitnesses offer enough evidence to suggest that in composing the story of the call of Peter, Luke relied on a source that depicted the call in connection with the fishing miracle. Secondly, existence of such a tradition opens new possibilities for reconstructing the past so differently narrativized by Luke and Mark.

    The dominant classification of Acts as the history of the early Christian Church whose main aim is to present the spread of the nascent movement from a less important part of the Roman Empire (Judea) to the very heart of the Empire (Rome), seems to be supported by Ac 1, 8 which is often taken as a kind of very general a table of contents. However, the rather unexpected end of Acts (a short and laconic account regarding Paul’s period in Rome), and Luke’s approach to and use of his sources, allow us to assume that Luke was aiming rather at a great story involving some main hearos and many other participants than are involved in just one thematic story. Following this assumption, based on the content of Acts, it is possible to individuate two main heroes (Peter and Paul) whose fate is somehow connected with many other persons that are also involved in giving witness to Jesus the Resurrected Messiah. In this study we look at Acts as the story concerning the two the most important witnesses, Peter and Paul, in order to determine their contribution to establishing the structural and doctrinal foundation of the New Israel.

    On the basis of Peter’s Speech at Pentecost the author is seeking to reach the scheme of the primary prophecy. The two stages of argumentation contained in it deal with the resurrection and exaltation. Both events, being the climax of Jesus’ mission, prove His Messianic character and Divinity. The success of the Christian doctrine depended on the proof of these two truths. No wonder then, that they are found in te centre of prophecy, which can be summed up as the proclamation of the resurrected and exalted Christ, who is seated on the right of the Father and gives us the Holy Spirit.

    The article advances a hypothesis that certain elements in the Johannine characterization of Jesus and Peter can be profitably interpreted through the lens of the ancient rhetorical device of syncrisis. The analysis consists of six main parts. First, the hypothesis itself is laid out in detail. Second, the Jewish and Christian uses of syncrisis around the turn of era is described, as proof for the possibility that this rhetorical technique was employed in the FG. Third, the status quaestionis on the use of syncrisis in the FG is provided. Fourth, some arguments are presented to justify the choice of progymnasmata as a methodological framework in the exposition of σύνκρισις between Jesus and Peter. It is argued that the ancient rhetorical exercises called progymnasmata, which contain a reliable and helpful description of ancient syncrisis, can thus provide useful criteria in the search for elements of syncrisis in the Johannine description of the relationship between Jesus and Peter. Fifth, the Johannine comparison between Jesus and Peter is viewed according to some of the basic rules of the progymnasmatic theory of syncrisis. Sixth, a detailed analysis of a few elements of the Johannine syncrisis between Jesus and Peter is presented.

    Der Verfaser entwickelt das Thema in drei Schritten. Der erste gilt der apostolischen Autorität selbst. Die beiden Briefe wollen im Lehren und Handeln nich von der Tradition der Urkirche abweichen. Im zweiten Punkt beschreibt der Verfasser näher die Irrlehrer und ihre Lehre. Im dritten Schritt wird dann auf die Christologie der Briefe aufmerksam gemacht und aufgezeigt, wie diese der Mahnungen unterstellt wird. Die Irrlehrer erklärt der Verfasser für Antinomisten. Insofern wird man schwerlich ihre Genese in Qumran erblickien können.

    This study explores the Greco-Roman memorialization of healings through material culture as a point of comparison for the Gospels’ miracle traditions.  Special attention is given to the ex-votos left at healing shrines and especially the Iamata inscriptions connected with the Asclepius cult.  This corpus of evidence brings into focus a series of dynamics that help illuminate the stories of Jesus’ two healings of a paralytic (John 5:1-15; Mark 2:1-10).  The comparisons help clarify both the common memorializing supports that informed and sustained the memory of Jesus transmitted in the Gospels, as well as the distinctive relationship of the Christian cult to certain specific places where memories of Jesus where preserved.

    Die Erzählung über die Offenbarung Jesu Christi am See Genezareth (J 21) berührt die Sachen der ganzen Kirche. Der Fischfang zeigt auf viele aus verschiedenen Nationen stammende Gläubigen. Die Hervorhebung der übergeordneten Rolle Petrus’ in der Kirche durch den Autor, dem es an der Betonung der Bedeutung Johannes des Evangelisten gelegen sein sollte, lässt feststellen, dass er viele Kirchengemeinden kannte und wusste, dass sie alle Christi gehören. Er kannte auch Doktrin, die sie bekannten, er kannte den nur ihnen eigentümlichen Wortschatz, und sogar unbeträchtliche Abweichungen im Inhalt. Er selbst unterzeichnete den Aufbau der Kirche, was Johannes nicht für wichtig hielt, und die gegenwärtige Eschatologie von Johannes versuchte er um die zukunftige in anderen Kirchengemeinden beliebte Eschatologie zu ergänzen. Als Ganzes strebte der Autor von J 21 nach der Einheit von allen Bekennern Christi.

    Der Autor des Artikels stellt sich das Ziel, die von Lukas beabsichtigte literarische Struktur der zweiten Petrusrede (Apg 3, 12-16) zu erfassen. Deshalb begründet er zu Beginn die literarische Einheit der Rede und zeigt, dass das Kompositionskriterium in der Begrüssung der Horer besteht, welche die Rede, in zwei Teile gliedert. Der erste Teil (3, 12-16) beinhaltet die christologischen Grundlagen des Kerygmas und setz sich aus zwei Fragmenten zusammen: der Interpretation des Wunders (Verse 12.16) sowie dem christologischen Kerygma selbst (Verse 13-15). Der zweite Teil, der die christologische Interpretation der Heilgeschichte enthält, setzt sich zusammen aus der Darlegung des göttlichen Heilsplanes (Verse 17-18), dem Aufruf zur Busse und der Verheissung der messianischen Heilszeit (Verse 18-21), der Betonung der Zeit der Entscheidung (Verse 22-24) und der Erfüllung der Verheissung an Abraham durch Gott in Christus (Verse 25-26).

    Die Perikope über Peters Bekenntnis ist wichtigsten Szenen in Rahmen des Markus’ Evangeliums zugehörig. Darin ist denn zum ersten Mal ein Ausdruck enthalten, wo der Mensch treffend Jesu Würde definiert hat. Dieser Moment wurde also sehr sorgfältig durch den Evangelisten vorbereitet. Der Verfasser dieses Artikels hat in Anlehnung an die literarisch-theologische Analyse Mk. 1, 14-8, 26 auch die einzelnen Etappen dieser Vorbereitung auf: Interesse der Leute für neue Lehre und für verrichtete Wunder (1, 27n.), negative Meinungen, die eine Quelle Jesu Klugheit und Gewalt mit einem Zusammenhang mit bösem Geist (3, 21n. 30), Überzeugung, dass Christus Gottesbote, und sogar, dass er eschatologischer Prophet (6, 14-16) ist, hingewiesen. Eine Wiederholung der letzten positiven, aber nicht ganz voll in der Wirklichkeit abgebenden Schätzungen in Mk. 8, 27-30, hat dem Markus aus ein Beziehungspunkt zur Peters Aussage gedient, die dem Meister Titel des Messias’ zugegeben hat.

    The wording describing Peter's third denial: "curse and swear" gave rise to several contradictory interpretations. Some think that it is hendiadys meaning nothing but swearing. Advocates of the transitive sense of the verb ἀναθεματίζω try to guess who is the object of Peter's curse. The dominant view is that Peter curses Jesus. Others think that Peter curses himself or those who accuse him. But formula "curse and swear" appears in the Henochic myth about fallen angels (1 Hen 6:4.5.6). Peter, who denies Jesus, resembles one of the fallen angels, who opposed God's will on Mount Hermon and separated themselves from God. The following pattern, which can be observed in the First Book of Enoch (1-6): the revelation of God, the announcement of the Last Judgment and the fall of those who belong to God appear in the Gospels of Mark and Matthew twice: in Caesarea Philippi (Mark 8:27-38, Matt 16:13-28 ) and in the Caiaphas palace (Mark 14:53-75, Matt 26:57-72). The apocryphal context helps to understand that the curse always touches one who opposes God. Throwing a curse on yourself is confirmed by examples from ancient culture.
