- Opis:
- This article presents three of Jan Krajewski’s texts: “Pożar wileński,” “Szturm smoleński sobotni,” and “Tryumf poznański.” In these poems he uses the rhetorical device of description. His literary pictures are very important to the inhabitants (not only the townspeople), buildings, city walls, city space, and areas around the city. These three texts convey varied persuasive purposes. In “Pożar wileński,” Krajewski above all wants to describe the city before the fire (in the first static part) and give account of tragic events (in the second dynamic part). In “Szturm smoleński sobotni,” the author observes the Smolensk fortress from the outside. In this poem he does not show interest in the inhabitants though he does describe the city walls and the army which captures the fortress. In “Tryumf poznański” he describes the city at feast time: church, castle, city hall, and gives praise to the kings’ knights. Krajewski presents the inner city: occasional decoration (two pictures and some inscriptions) and groups of people including townspeople, visitors, and soldiers as an anonymous crowd. The author describes the city outside and inside and perceives the city at happy and unhappy times. Krajewski shows buildings (churches, palaces and houses) during feast time, war, and disaster. To achieve his purpose, he uses some rhetorical principles.
