    Siamo abituati che il pensiero teologico di san Tommaso d’Aquino viene presentato secondo la sua più famosa e più matura opera, cioè La Summa Theologiae, il che fa sì che non conosciamo il suo pensiero, altrettanto maturo, valido e interessante, contenuto nelle sue altre opere, soprattutto quelle esegetiche. L’Aquinate infatti, essendo magister in Sacra Pagina, non ha mai insegnato la sua Summa di Teologia, matutta la sua attività accademica era dedicata e concentrata sulla spiegazione-esegesi della Sacra Scrittura. Perciò questo studio ha per scopo presentare la dottrina della generazione del Figlio dal Padre, che troviamo nel suo commento al Sal 2,7 e nei commenti dei testi paralleli di Eb 1,5 e 5,5; con riferimenti al commento del Vangelo di Giovanni.
    In the presentation of the subject – preceded by an Introduction, where the Aquinas is presented as Bible’s Commentator – the author examines the saint Thomas’ interpretations of the text Ps 2,7 regarding the theme of this research, confronted with the contemporary exegesis, and presents also two parallel commentaries of the text Hebr 1,5 and 5,5. The exposition is theological, doctrinal and biblical: the generation of the Son is spiritual, intellectual, natural and eternal. All this permits to the author to conclude that the doctrine on the generation of the Son presented by Saint Thomas in Commentary on the Ps 2,7 and parallels is very clear, rich and remains valid and topical and permits to remain in the faith and doctrine of the catholic Church.

    Tajemnica poczęcia Matki Bożej zajmuje szczególne miejsce zarówno w średniowiecznych teologicznych traktatach, jak i utworach literackich, stanowiących świadectwo wiary. W tekstach dają się zauważyć echa żywego w średniowieczu makulistyczno-immakulistycznego dyskursu. Związane z polską kulturą religijną, proza i poezja tego czasu obfitują w refleksje dotyczące obecności trzeciej Osoby Trójcy w tajemnicy poczęcia Matki Bożej. Kwestie teologiczne nie wpływają jednak na sposób ekspresji utworów podejmujących tematykę poczęcia, wpisujących się w swoisty fenomen, jakim jest polska średniowieczna pobożność maryjna. Duch Święty odgrywa w tych tekstach podwójną rolę: jest obecny w wydarzeniu zbawczym i jest niezbędny w usposobieniu ludzi do przyjęcia prawdy.
    The paper presents some of medieval works in which the Holy Spirit’s motif connected with the conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is emphasized. They are prayer books, liturgical sequences, sermons, liturgical documents , poetry written in Latin and in Polish. The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception was a matter of dispute in the Middle Ages. In the first part of this article an attempt is made to show the fragments of the works of the Church Fathers, divided in two factions, maculists and immaculists. The paper presents fragments relating to the mystery of the conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary from treaties of St Bernard and St Thomas Aquinas, who did not see any theological justification for the idea of immaculate conception and Eadmer of Canterbury secretary to St Anselm, presenting an argument from congruity that Mary was free from original sin. In the second part the literary works are analyzed. In the article special attention is paid to the explanation of theological contexts of presented works and to the showing of literary skill, biblical erudition and religious consciousness of medieval authors.

    Dziewictwo Maryi jest jednym z najbardziej problematycznych dogmatów dla mentalności współczesnych ludzi. W tym kontekście szczególnie trudny do zrozumienia wydaje się sprzeciw Kościoła wobec stosowania technik sztucznego zapłodnienia (in vitro oraz sztuczna inseminacja), które doprowadzają do poczęcia osoby ludzkiej bez stosunku seksualnego oraz równoczesna wiara w dziewicze poczęcie Jezusa. Niniejszy tekst spróbuje odpowiedzieć na pytanie: czy wiara w dziewicze poczęcie Jezusa stoi w opozycji do zakazu stosowania technik wspomagania rozrodu formułowanego przez Kościół? A także: czy dogmat o dziewictwie Maryi rzuca jakieś światło na problem właściwego sposobu poczęcia człowieka? Ponadto ze względów metodologicznych tekst zajmie się właściwą interpretacją dziewiczego poczęcia Jezusa, gdyż jest to konieczny punkt wyjścia do dalszych analiz.
    Mary’s virginity is one of the most problematic dogmas for mentality of modern people. In this context, Church’s objection to using assisted reproduction techniques (in vitro and artificial insemination) which lead to conception of human person without sexual intercourse and – at the same time – the faith in virginal conception of Jesus, seems to be the most difficult issue to understand. This paper will try to answer the question: does the faith in virginal conception stand in opposition to Church’s ban of using techniques of assisted reproduction? And also:does the dogma of Mary’s virginity shed some light on the problem of adequate way of human conception? Moreover, for methodological reasons text will deal with the appropriate interpretation of virginal conception of Jesus because it is the necessary starting point to further analysis.

    W wyjątkowej relacji Boga i Matki Pana kryje się model obowiązujący wszystkich chrześcijan (nie tylko katolików), który należy odkryć. Na Niepokalane Poczęcie można patrzeć jak na wyjątek, z którego daje się odczytać reguła współpracy człowieka z Bogiem w realizacji Jego odwiecznego planu zbawienia.
    It is worthwhile to meditate the contents hidden in this Marian dogma, for the Mother of God’s unique vocation gives light to all the people’s vocation. The Immaculate Conception reveals the following truths: relation between the eternal will of God (predestination) and the will of man (freedom); relation between the divine grace and human cooperation; connection between temporality and eternity. The article also underlines an ecumenical aspect of the dogma’s contents. The author engages in polemics against the widespread (even among Catholics) opinion, according to which the Immaculate Conception should be an expression of the sola gratia principle.
