Opis:
The aim of the study was to describe changes in abundance and settlement (number of specimens per 100 g of fungi) of basidiocarps of tinder fungus (Fomes fomentarius) by the invertebrates in different types of forest habitats. Tinder fungus that contained the invertebrates were collected from four sample plots located in the Tuchola Forest and the Myślęcinek – an area located within the administrative borders of Bydgoszcz city. Statistically differences between the settlement of basidiocarps by the invertebrates in different types of forest habitats were found.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of temperature and humidity on colonization of cambio−xylophagous insects on Norway spruce branches in relation to the place and method of slash utilization. Analyzed branches were infested by eight species of cambiophagous and two species of cambioxylophagous, whereas the material utilization method does not substantially influence the entomofauna species composition. The most numerous were: Pityogenes chalcographus, Ips amitinus, Dryocoetes autographus and Pityophthorus pityographus. The branches treatment was a factor contributing significantly to the infestation intensity by P. chalcographus and I. amitinus, reaching a higher density of galleries on the branches spreading disorderly on the forest floor than collected in the piles. Moreover, it was found that the location of branches inside the pile determines their attractiveness to hygrophilous species with a minor economic importance. Significant differences in temperature and relative humidity inside the piles and the surrounding branches scattered disorderly on the surface during the growing season indicate that this may be an important factor influencing logging residues left in the forest infestation intensity by bark beetles.

Opis:
The aim of this research was to determine the composition of microscopic fungi colonizing Norway spruce dead wood depending on the degree of decomposition of wood and the location in the Tatra National Park (TPN; southern Poland). The work included lying and standing dead wood of Norway spruce as well as tree stumps. The sampling plots were located in the Białka Valley (eastern part of the TPN) where the forests are unmanaged and area is mostly under strict pro− tection, and in the western part of the Park, in the Chochołowska Valley, where the majority of forests is privately owned and managed (landscape protection). Samples were collected three times in the growing season, in spring, summer and autumn 2016. The sampling plots were located in the forests covered by different forms of protection: strict, active and landscape. The dominant microscopic fungi inhabiting analysed Norway spruce dead wood in selected regions of the Tatras are fungi belonging to Trichoderma genus: T. harzianum: T. polysporum, and T. hamatum. A much greater diversity of fungi species isolated from the dead wood was found for the Białka Valley, subjected to strict and active protection, than Chochołowska Valley, where forests are subject of the economic utilisation. More species and colonies were obtained from lying and older dead wood than from the stumps in the higher classes of distribution.

Opis:
We investigated whether high−intensity road traffic affects the nestbox occupancy pattern of secondary hole−nesting birds. Field studies were carried out in two forests in south−eastern Poland (Lasy Janowskie forest and Polichna forest). Both complexes were included in NATURA 2000 network. In our knowledge it was first field experiment on road−traffic noise influence on forest birds, conducted in the Polish environmental conditions. The results of this experiment can be used in work on the impact of road projects on forest birds. Nestboxes were hung at twelve linear transects located perpendicularly to the busy road and they were regularly inspected in 2011−2012. Road noise was measured by use of a digital measurer of sound level at each nestbox. Monitoring the activity of predators on the study area was done with the help of digital trail cameras and experiment with use of artificial nest with eggs. Noise level decreased with distance from the road. In the first year of experiment we observed that the birds settled preferentially habitats in the vicinity of road. However in next season the number of occupied nestboxes was independent from the distance from road. We found that the pressure caused by predators on the study area was very low, creating safer nesting places for birds. Our results provide evidence that these birds are well adapted to cope with anthropogenic noise. Some species of birds preferred nesting in neighbourhood of road.
