    Opis:
    The paper concerns forest populations of lady's slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus L.). The study sites were located in localities with the most numerous populations of Cypripedium calceolus L. in managed forests in Poland. The field studies were conducted in 2012 according to Natura 2000 sites protocols. The aim of studies was the determination of population structure of lady's slipper orchid, especially in indexes reflected number of flowering and fruit plants. The relations between above factors and environmental conditions expressed by ecological indicator values, cover of vegetation layers, species richness, stand age, and intensity of thinning were studies. The obtained results confirmed negative influence of understorey layer and positive influence of density of tree layer on the development of studied orchid populations. The increase in thinning intensity has not significant influence on protection status of Cypripedium calceolus.

    Opis:
    This paper presents a study on a population of Pulsatilla patens conducted in 2012 in the Myszyniec Forest District in Natura 2000 area ‘Myszynieckie Bory Sasankowe’ in the Kurpie forest (NE Poland). The purpose of the study was to determine the population structure of Pulsatilla patens, especially with regard to abundance, density, and percentage of generative plants in the total population. Correlations were examined between these population features and selected environmental characteristics including ecological indicator values, community layer coverage, number of species group. For the evaluation of the linear relationship between the variables, Spearman's correlation coefficient was used. The research confirmed a significant effect of light availability, clear cuttings areas on all mean values of such indicators of plants as number of flowers, number of plants, share of vegetative and generative plants.

    Opis:
    Ostrich fern Matteuccia struthiopteris is one of the most endangered ferns in Poland. This hygrophilous and shade−tolerable plant is vulnerable to extinction in consequence of disturbance of water relations in river valleys as well as tree stands exploitation. The impact of insolation on population structure and fronds size of ostrich fern was studied. The study plots were established in the alder−stitchwort riparian forest Stelario−Alnetum in western part of the Knyszyńska Forest (NE Poland). Density of ramets was greater on insolated plots than on shaded ones. In the sunny places trophophylls were on average over 6 cm lower and 3 cm narrower than under tree canopy. 37% of the rootstocks found in insolated areas produced 1−6 sporophylls, whereas only 28% of the rootstocks occurring in the tree shadow were fertile. Fertile frond production is connected to trophophylls size, irrespective of insolation conditions: 70% of the rootstocks, in which vegetative fronds reached height above 120 cm, developed sporophylls. There is statistically significant relationship between height and width of trophophylls and sporophylls both on the insolated and shaded plots.

    Opis:
    The state of the flora of the Biele nature reserve (Sokołów Podlaski Forest District) after 20 years of nature conservation was assessed. Only one species noted in 1989 was not confirmed at present, whereas 38 newcomers were observed. Most of them (30 species) prefer light and half−light/light conditions and are mainly related to non−forest communities. Frequency of synanthropic species is still very low (2.4%) and no anthropophytes were noted in the reserve. All protected and endangered plants, eg. Trollius europaeus, Gladiolus imbricatus, Dactylorhiza fuchsii, except of Carex umbrosa, still occur within its borders. Active protection of Trollius europaeus and Gladiolus imbricatus by removal of brushwood was suggested.

    Opis:
    ‘Śnieżyczki’ nature reserve (E Poland) is characterised by forest ecosystems only, represented by the Mazovian variety of the subcontinent lime−oak−hornbeam forest Tilio cordatae−Carpinetum betuli and stachys lime−oak−hornbeam forest Tilio cordatae−Carpinetum betuli stachyetosum – a rarity on the regional scale – which represents the wettest and the most fertile kind of lime−oak−hornbeam forests, and whose species composition and structure is similar to those of riparian forests. The vascular flora of the reserve includes 119 species. The rich locality of Galanthus nivalis, situated in the forest complex of Sokołów Podlaski Forest District – which is the most north−eastward point of its natural range – is a flora curiosity.
