Opis:
The paper presents a time consumption assessment model (EST) of skidding operations using winches aggregated with chainsaws in thinned stands taking into consideration environmental factors, work−day structure elements and harvested timber volume. Differences in time consumption levels were found between early and late thinning operations. The strongest correlation between the EST and the analysed variables was observed for the share of the waiting time for a chainsaw operator to release logs and the category of thinning.

Opis:
The study analyses accident rate in the Regional Directorate of the State Forests in Szczecinek (NW Poland) in the years 1990−2009. 1042 accidents occurred in the analyzed period. The frequency rate equalled to 14.75, i.e. almost 15 accidents per 1000 employees. The severity rate amounted 48.65. The analysis showed that privatization of forest works did not have significant impact on accident rates.

The aim of the study was to assess the level of occupational risk on the basis of allowable maximum concentration and intensity of factors occurring in the material work environment, and to determine the relationship between the workstation and the variables describing it by drawing similarity maps using multidimensional scaling (MDS) methods. The scope of work involved four manual−mechanical wood harvesting stations characterised by nine ergonomic−technological indicators.

Opis:
The paper presents results of examination on snapshot observation accuracy in measuring work times at harvesting and skidding of timber. High consistency between time measurements obtained by means of photography of work day method and snapshot observations was proved. Among advantages of the snapshot method one can name possibility to assess the time of work and breaks, evaluate proportion of supplementary work times and low labour intensity of the research.

Opis:
The paper presents the influence of forest management on the recreational utilisation of forests. Analyses were carried out concerning the productive and recreational functions performed by managed lowland forests in the Polish lakelands. Time consumption of forest operations was calculated and individual questionnaire surveys were conducted with a representative group of 947 adult Poles as part of the studies.

Opis:
One of the most difficult technological operations in forest utilization is wood transport, especially its first stage i.e. extraction. This is related to the fact that the forest operations must be economically effective, but also safe for the forest environment. Difficult terrain conditions require determining and choosing the optimal variant of skidding. The most popular method for optimizing work is the use of working day photography. However, it is time−consuming and labor−intensive, that is why it is possible to use an alternative way of measuring working time, i.e. snapshot observations. It is therefore important to determine which measurement method is appropriate for the complicated and variable production processes in forestry. The aim of the research was to assess the accuracy of snapshots at intervals of 1 and 5 minute in relation to the stopwatch time study (which was a reference measurement), carried out for a two−stage wood logging in quasi−mountain terrain conditions of the Elbląg Upland (N Poland). It’s mountain like characteristics causes some difficulties in the forest works. Data for the study were collected in two periods – summer and winter. We did not prove statistically significant differences between the methods studied.

The article presents the assessment of occupational safety in Polish forestry in the period of 2009−2016. The basic criteria for analysis of accident rate were based on the form of the statistical card of accident at work. The research analysed the data about accidents at work published by the Central Statistical Office in Poland. The aim of the research was: (i) to determine the variability of the number of people injured in total accidents, in serious accidents, and in fatal accidents, number of people employed, and number of days of incapacity to work caused by accidents; (ii) to check the relationships between the cause of the accident and the year of its occurrence, between the age of the injured and the number of accidents, between the work seniority of the injured and the number of accidents, and finally (iii) to determine the value and volatility of total accident rate per 1,000 employees, the rate of serious accidents per 100,000 employed, the rate of fatalities per 100,000 employed, accident severity rate per 1 injured as well as accident risk indicator per 1 employee. The most important cause of accidents at work in forestry was incorrect employee behavior (57.9%). The dominant events causing injury in forestry were impact by the object in motion and collision with/impact on a stationary object (26.7 and 22.6%, respectively). The most common accidents at work in forestry concern employees with work seniority in the field of over 16 years and less than a year (30.6 and 23.23%, respectively), people aged 30−39 and 40−49 (24.55 and 24.52%, respectively). The value of total accident rate in forestry shows a decreasing trend in 2011−2016 (–20.5%). The rate of serious and fatal accidents alternately increases and decreases. Similarly to the value of the severity of accidents, no trends were found. For the accident risk indicator a declining trend was observed in 2012−2016 (–19.3%).
