Opis:: The future of hunting is threatened in Europe by negative trends developing in the population of hunters. Among these trends three are remarkable, namely: declining number of hunters, aging of hunter population, and declining recruitment. Sustaining number of hunters should be a challenge of the 21st century. It will require a better knowledge of hunter population dynamics. We need to focus on hunters’ attitudes and join up with human demographers and population experts to examine those trends. An international center for the study of hunter population could be a solution.

Opis:: The purpose of our study was to estimate genetic diversity of Prunus avium in natural populations. Genetic studies were carried out in 27 wild cherry populations sampled from several Polish tree stands. Chloroplast DNA variation was assessed and two haplotypes were identified. Theirs distribution divided populations into two groups. Haplotype H1 was present in 11 of 27 populations and H2 in 16 populations. The PCR− −SSR technique was used to detect nuclear DNA diversity. Three highly polymorphic SSR (microsatellite) primer pairs were used to describe the genetic variation. Heterozygosity values ranged from 0.500 to 0.633, while gene diversity (PIC) from 0.75 to 0.79. This study demonstrated that SSR fingerprinting with cpDNA diversity, can be used for preliminary characterization of Prunus avium populations.

Opis:: The paper provides research results on adaptability of animals to changes in the environment resulting from genetically conditioned behaviour of the individuals. Observations of adaptive process of wildlife using ecological corridors to new environmental conditions were carried out along the newly constructed section of the A−4 highway to find the changes ongoing in wildlife populations.

Opis:: Due to the fact that game animals in Poland over the last hundred years or so have been subject to statistical registration of their abundance and exploitation level, the history of animal species threatened by extinction, i.e. hare, partridge, capercaillie and black grouse and red deer, roe deer, wild boar, fox and beaver in the peak of their population success has been described. Attempt was made to establish the cause of the permanent negative or positive abundance dynamics for these species throughout the country. In addition, a forecast for the future development of these species was formulated.
