- The paper analyses the development of pine nurse crop properties relative to the commencement time and length of the conversion period. The results of the measurements on 120 circular control experimental plots established according to the statistical−mathematical forest inventory and control system, repeated periodically since 1975 in Forest Experimental Station stands in Krynica were the basis for stand condition assessment. The time of inventory during which the main target species, i.e. fir or beech, appeared in the composition of the analysed nurse crops was considered the moment at which conversion began. It allowed for the division of all pine nurse crops into four groups: stands with long, medium and short conversion period, and in the period of conversion initiation.
