    The usefulness of a cable crane Larix 3T was analysed in terms of damage, productivity and unit costs during timber extraction. The cable crane was used in the stands managed under the irregular shelterwood cutting system in the Wetlina Forest District in the Bieszczady Mountains.

    Opis:
    The focus of presented paper is on the use of a Larix Kombi cable for timber harvest by felling and extracting teams in the waterlogged alder stands in the territory of the Złotów Forest District. The obtained results confirm that the logging teams employed for the timber harvest using a Larix Kombi cable should have a variable number of workers, and that two−person teams are more efficient than three−person teams. The annual capacity of the cable can be increased even four times which will contribute to the reduction of list rates for logging (lower unit costs of depreciation).

    Opis:
    Paper presents the way of calculating the minimum breakeven timber volume for the installation of Larix 3T cable, indicating the efficient way of performing the installation works. Following the forest habitat classification applied in Polish forests, three logging difficulty zones and the corresponding technological areas of timber extraction were distinguished. On this basis, the number of cable systems to be applied within the State Forests National Forest Holding was determined.

    Opis:
    The evaluation of the efficiency of log skidding with a farm tractor in two technical−technological variants by the chronometric method has revealed that for shorter skidding distances (up to about 250 m) and in areas of good passability, the application of hydraulic tongs as auxiliary skidding equipment is more justified than if a cable winch is applied.

    Opis:
    The research was conducted in thinned pine stands, age class II, where cutting was carried out with chainsaws. Subsequent operations were performed using a NIAB 5−15 and HYPRO 450 delimber−bucker processor and a FRANSG RD 6000 cable winch aggregated with farm tractors. The timber harvesting technology was applied with a cut−to−length system using processors, and with a tree−length system using a cable winch. In the selected stands, nine study plots were established, in which the inventory of stand layers: trees and undercanopy regeneration was carried out twice (before and after felling). Based on the obtained data, the level of damage to trees and regeneration after thinning operations was calculated. In the case of the technology using processors, the level of damage to trees in individual manipulation plots was within the range of 4.3%−8.6% (total 7%), while for the winch technology it was from 3.1% to 5.8% (total 4.5%). As regards regeneration, damage resulting from the harvesting and skidding of timber using processors in individual manipulation plots was at a level of 4.1%−13.5% (total 8.5%) and damage resulting from the harvesting and skidding using a winch cable from 5.8% to 17.0% (total 9%).
