Unlike the majority of linguistic researchers, we consider the compliment as a speech genre, and a praise as a speech tactic of a positive assessment of the addressee. This tactic is the main and only speech tactic designed to serve the complimentary purpose, which expresses a positive attitude towards the interlocutor. Specifics of the compliment as a speech genre are defined by it possessing communicative independence and completeness. Unlike other genres of speech etiquette, the compliment is not attached to a certain situation and represents a facultative element of phatic communication. The etiquette essence of a compliment presupposes a certain convention of its contents, therefore theoretically it is supposed that the stated positive assessment shouldn’t be verified by the addressee. However, the importance of the category of sincerity for the Russian language consciousness determines the fact that in modernRussian communicative culture there is a special style of compliment which is caused by an aspiration of the sender to evoke trust of the interlocutor to the contents of a statement made. Markers of this style are various language emotional and estimated means and the structural-syntactic features particular to spontaneous informal conversation.

The reorientation of linguistics to the study of the regularities of its functioning in stylistics, manifested in the fact that functional style has been regarded as a type of language in any sphere of human activity, regards language in the aspect of differentiation and modification in the basic speech varieties. It is not by chance that text samples from different areas of communication are used in frequency dictionaries. Understanding style as a way to integrate speech performance first put forward the questions of the compositional-semantic organization of the text, the realization of its categories, constructive principles, and techniques. In functional stylistics studies the two main areas – the use of language and the organization of a speech performance – are analyzed as complementary, but cohesion requires understanding the regularities of the functioning of language units in a text with many objectives, updated in texts of the given sphere. To resolve this problem, it is reasonable to rely on the notion of speech genres, each of which is a sequence of standard cognitive-communicative actions – structural elements acting as an object in the text of spiritual socio-cultural activities. The analysis of these actions has revealed and systematized lexical units in communicative composition of language material (Gasparov 2010). This text-centered study of functioning of lexical and other means is of interest not only for the theory of style (and, more broadly, in speech study), but also to practice learning the language in its functional varieties.

Collective memory, defined as ‘acollection of imagesof community members about their past which are included in cultural texts,’ (Wójcicka 2015: 68), ‘images about the past activated in the process of social communication in order to meet the cul-tural and political needs of the present’ (Czachur 2018: 11), is unavailable directly. It can be reached only through representation of the past expressed in different kinds of signs. Thus, collective memory has the character of a sign. Based on that assumption, the author presents the style and genre diversity of collective memory. She shows the role of language style in collective memory and puts forward a ques-tion about what function speech genre has in remembering, recalling, reminding and forgetting. She presents complex relations between memory and speech genre, which she treats as a sign of oblivion. In the last part of the article, the author offers a typology of memory genres distinguishing primarily (intentionally) mnemonic and secondarily(functionally) mnemonic genres.

The article presents a characteristics of several contemporary communication phenomena transforming religious discourse in its Catholic version. The author understands discourse as the entirety of communication practices specific to a particular community of believers, which in the course of various interactions fixes and agrees relevant to this community content, preserves appropriate scenarios of communication behavior and rules for their completion by utterances and/or non-verbal means. The author emphasizes the peculiarity of the religious discourse that is open to transcendence. She limits the scope of the presented communication phenomena to the catechetical discourse, which now focuses on participation of the catechized people in the process of catechesis. The methods of catechesis should therefore take into account the spiritual needs of the believers. Catechesis formulated in this mode promotes communication experiments, especially the processes of movement, i.e. translocation of speech genres from the secular to sacred realm. According to the author these translocations are accomplished in new genre forms that maintain the memory of their basic genre code, but at the same time are subject to processes of transformation conducive to the creation of new genre patterns. Some of them do not have genre identifiers in the form of special names and are only a beginning of new conventions. Such status is attributed by the author to evangelization visiting card analyzed in the article. Some of them gain names and create a series that preserves the innovative principles of the genre. As an example, the author discusses messages called the heaventels. They are an adaptation of the SMS convention for simulated (stylized) communication of God as the sender to the man. Translocations are favourable to launching of the adaptation processes and formation of genre duplicates that make the input (secular) genre form more capacious and communicatively catchy.

Titles are regarded as part of the delimitation frame and, therefore, as part of the structural aspect of the genre of Stations of the Cross. The purpose of the paper is to describe changes that took place during the 20th century, which was a period of particularly turbulent changes in the religious discourse. The study is based on material of about 200 texts dealing with this religious service, published between the beginning of the 20th century and the present day. Throughout the last century, the most common title was the simple genological term ‘Stations of the Cross’. At the beginning of the analyzed period, however, also longer titles, extensively informing about the content of the text, were fairly frequent. At the same time, they were also persuasive titles, because of the use of explicitly valuating lexis. Those titles gradually gave way to the use of laconic genological names as titles. After the Second Vatican Council, there were many variants of the service adapted to different audiences and various communication situations, which was reflected in the titles. Recently a new type of titles has appeared, whose purpose is to attract attention of the recipient. They are often based on puzzles, contrast, allusions, etc. Consequently, the receiver gets satisfaction from deciphering a puzzle or finding the source of the given quote or allusion. These phenomena are well-known in studies on language of the press, fiction and advertising, but – at the same time – this overlaps with current trends in the so-called new evangelization. In the entire period studied, the titles played an informative and impressive (or more precisely: persuasive) function. Persuasiveness intensified particularly at the beginning and towards the end of the analyzed period.

The predominant way of stylistic investigation - up till nowadays - follows the di chotomie ‘token-type’ principle. It is argued here that the comprehensive study of style be carried along the rhetoric-interpretative lineš, which requires a letrachotomic ap- proach (thinking - discourse - genre - utterance), thinking and utterance levels being of paramount importance. So, one should distinguish style of thinking, utterance style, genre style and discourse style. The analysis of continuity/discreteness is carried oul on four varieties of discourse: business, scientific, everyday (set in f literary one ) and poetic. The results show that the antinomy o f continuity/discreteness is highly varřable in each ilem of the antinomy - from continuity to discreteness and backwards; the scale o f variability dependent, though, on the type o f discourse. This fact shows that this antinomy might be treated as a stylistic feature of communication, alongside with other features of textuality.

The article is devoted to research into speech genres which belong to the neutral zone of everyday phatic communication (boltovnya, svetskaya beseda, razgovor po dusham). The author presumes that all the three genres are the variants of one invariant form – 'razgovor (razgovor bytovoi', 'razgovor svetskii' and 'razgovor po dusham'). Each of the genre forms analyzed is consonant with communication in different 'I' states described by Eric Bern: 'boltovnya' – communication at the level of a 'Child', 'svetskaya beseda' – a 'Parent', 'razgovor po dusham' – an 'Adult'. 'Boltovnya' is the primary speech genre, while the two others are secondary to it. At the level of speech production 'boltovnya' includes the intention of an easy, superficial discursive behavior. The main principle of theme moving is defined here by non-determinacy of communication. The central subgenres of 'boltovnya' defining its main tactics are'rasskaz ob uvidennom', 'rasskaz ob otsutstvuyushchem litse' and gossip. We have to add to them such facultative genres as compliment, 'kolkost', request, consolation, affirmation, invective, 'pouchenie' etc. 'Bytovoi razgovor' at the level of speech production does not have a clear value intention. Just this feature of Russian 'boltovnya' doesn't allow to define its conceptual content clearly. 'Svetskaya beseda' is a rhetoric genre (in comparison to the primary genre 'boltovnya'). It reflects the cooperative-conformist's type of communication. Pragmatic parameters of this genre include non-official but public character of communication. Psychological parameters of the 'svetskaya beseda' genre include the high grade of determination in speech production. The main semantics of the 'svetskaya beseda' genre is determined by the concept of politeness (demonstration of respect to a communicative partner expressed in benevolence towards him). The 'razgovor po dusham' genre is a secondary genre (when compared to the primary genre 'boltovnya'). It is based on the principles of the so-called cooperative-actualizator's type of the communication (an intention to stand at your communicative partner's point of view, to put yourself in his/her shoes), the semantics of which is reflected in the 'sincerity' concept. This genre alone corresponds with the concept of a communicative ideal within everyday communication that Russian people have.

The paper deals with the genre typology of the publicistic functional style. The speech genres are interpreted as a three-part system reflecting the interaction of the semantic positions both of the writer and the addressee. For the first time there has been characterized the system of the reader's genre needs which are nom1ally taken into consideration by a reporter when creating the text ofthis or that particular genre. As a result of the study into the problem it has been stated that various informational needs of the audience determine the compositional andthematic genres'peculiarities, as well as the communicative requirements and set the stylistic parametres of the pattems. In the paper there is proposed thesolution of the disputable issued in linguistics concerning the primary and secondary genres and are revealed the regularities in the different genres' interractions.

The article deals with the analysis for the use’s instruction as a speech genre in the chronological perspective sińce the 60’s in twentieth century until the beginning of the twenty First century. The author presents a brief outline history of the instruction’s forma- tion in a written form and the transformation of the genre model, with a special emphasis on: the structural level (composition, shape and segmentation of the text), the cognitive level (the way of presenting specific technical information), the pragmatic level (the dominant intents, the sender’s attitude), and stylistic one (text shematisms, formula, assecu- ration). The instruction for use in the chronological prospect characterizes dynamism of change. Integrating in their own structure of other pattems (an advice, a cooking recipe, an advertisement), they took over a book form. Despite of recommendation of European Union’s directive conceming its preparation, it is still realizing variants of genre model: altemation and adaption models. That makes us classify it as a separate genre evolving in accordance with the culture’s development rhythm.

Testament in the Polish culture is an administrative-legal genre, accomplished in its own style of the genre, based on the official and legal style. In the stylistic aspect it shows authoritarianism, impersonality, templatedness and meticulousness of expression. As an example of the legal discourse it tends to be unambiguous, logical, concrete, and it contains specialist terminology related to dispositions of the estate in contemplation of death. It refers manly to the material sphere of life, yet it implies abundance of various hidden feelings: love, gratitude, attachment, hatred, contempt, or revenge. The most popular and expansive type of the genre is a notarial will executed in the form of a notarial deed. Holographic wills are realized more freely, with use of elements of colloquial style, may include expressive speech acts or take the form of an informal letter. The stylistic form of allographic and oral wills is similar to a report. Notarial testaments are becoming dominant and influence the linguistic shape of all other types of the genre. Lack of legal verbosity in a document, while meeting the requirement concerning appointment of an heir, date and testator’s signature, does not invalidate the legal force of the utterance.

In this article the author presents some remarks on adaptive structure of spoken complaint. The analyses demonstrate the contamination of complaint and narrative structure. In analysed spoken texts narrative seems to be structurally "stronger" genre because of its structural dominant: narrative scheme, consisting of few elements arranged in tum (Abstract, Orientation, Evaluation, Result and Coda). However, spoken complaint has also a strong dominant which is semantic dominant - negation showing speaker's attitude to events of his life. The negation exists on text surface or in deep semantic structure of .  Analyses presented in this article shows that most complaint elements are located in Orientation and Coda which often contains speaker's opinion about reported events. The opinion in everyday spoken narratives may be positive or negative, and sometimes it can be even humoristic, but in spoken complaint this finał opinion is always negative.

The dynamie chaos theory applied to linguistics casts light on the role of Perm school of functional stylistics (M.N. Kozhina) as an odd attractor promoting the study of text in dynamics, especially the functional stylistic-semantic categories of text.It is argued here that modem situation in linguistics is shaped by the application of global context (individual cognitive system - on the personal level, and culture in all its heterogeneity - on the social level) to the mainstream research of language in use. This methodological demand is met by functional pragmatics as whole semiotics embracing all aspects of semiosis. lt ensures the blend of cognitive and interpretive models with their specific procedures in revealing the subtleties of language in use. That is exemplified in the analysis of a chunk of fictive text. Besides, we set forth the category of tonality which denotes attitudes and tones permeating discourse, in the light ofM.N. Kozhina's contribution to the field.
