CULTIVATION OF LANGUAGE (SPEECH)
CZECH LANGUAGE
STYLISTICS
Opis:
The article deals with one specific approach towards the language (speech) culture (jazyková kultura), which links this discipline with stylistics. The approach is deeply rooted in the Czech context, namely in the functional approaches towards language developed since the 1920-1930s by members of the Prague School and still widely used. The field of interest of this discipline can be divided into four main spheres: 1) present-day situation and 2) possibilities of influencing A. language and B. speech (langue and parole in the established Saussurean terminology, in other words - system and usage). In university courses described in the article, the focus is on the 2A and 2B types - the materials examined in seminars are mainly various attempts at influencing language in both above-mentioned respects, i.e. system and usage. Although various present-day materials dominate, materials from previous centuries, e.g. by Jan Hus (15th century), are also used to illustrate approaches towards such problems in the past. The main aim of the courses is to understand better 1) function, 2) methods and 3) theoretical background presented in the investigated materials and to make qualified theoretical conclusions about them, rather than to support or reject directly the opinions expressed in the materials. Attention is therefore paid above all to a description and analysis of all of the above-mentioned three points, which links the discipline of language (speech) cultivation to stylistics, but also to other disciplines (e.g. sociolinguistics). The students, as future qualified experts in the Czech language, should then be better prepared for issues they may face in their future professional career (teachers, language experts etc.), when asked to express a qualified and reliable opinion of some phenomena in modern Czech.

The рарег is focused оп different aspects of the соггеlatioп between stylistics аnd types of speech сulture. It is argued that апу kind of stylistics studies оnlу the highest type of speech culture common to people who have a perfect command of all language varieties. In other words, stylistics always deals exclusively with the accepted model of good speech. The first part of the paper concentrates on the essence of three branches of stylistics: functional stylistics, literary stylistics, and practical stylistics. Functional stylistics studies functional differentiation of standard language (the Russian equivalent of the English term standard language is numepamypmrn язык). Practical stylistics is aimed at choosing the best synonym.Literary stylistics analyses fictional texts whose authors make a maximum use of language resources. Only people of the fully functional type of speech culture can cope with the above-mentioned tasks. The second part of the paper is devoted to a study of the peculiarities of speech culture markers manifestation in different language varieties. A close analysis of extensive factual data has led the author to the conclusion that speech culture markers are most active in public and fiction discourse and least active in standardized documents and casual everyday conversation.

Opis:
The starting point of our theoretical reflexions about the influence of important persons’ speeches on the Slovak public is connected with the term cultural particularity, following the language behaviour of speakers (presidential candidates), anchored in Slovak cultural milieu in spring 2014. Taking into consideration the idea of discourse psychology of R. Harré and G. R. Gillet saying that the human thinking is non-formal and, in the same time, sensitive to the context of real word, we admit the linguistic claim, which underlines the conditionality of language understanding by understanding of any discourse happening (including people acting in different situations, reproducing and developing themselves as socio-cultural creatures) – cf. Dolník, 2010, p. 60. The particularities of the topical rhetorical culture of presidential candidates in contemporary Slovakia emerge from lingual as well as from non-lingual factors. As for the lingual factors, the speech culture is embedded in the language situation, dominated by the codified “literary language”, which is reserved for representative public speeches taking advantage of linguistic nonchalance (however, it doesn’t mean the total exclusion of neglectful expressions, able to attract some positive effects). The “authorised” carelessness interrelates especially with youth social dialect, as well as with specific pronunciation typical for the region of Bratislava (which is permitted to young candidate R. Procházka, whereas older candidates try to avoid it). The topical public rhetorical culture of Slovakia has also specific axiological topoi, nourishing the confrontations in dialogues as a universal feature of interactions in its’ current politics. It concerns such moral values as traditional family life, Christian religion, distance fromthe communist identity and from corruption.

Opis:
This páper attempts to interrelate culture (as a set of values produced and received by a specific community, including its artistic and literary production) and language/speechculture/cultiva on. Its point of departure is the classic hierarchy of styles, the differentiation between high style (which is associated with cultivated, and in Czech, exclusively standardlanguage expression), middle and low style. Low style is characterized by the use of non-standard. slang and expressive means and vulgarisms, and currently extends into Czechliteratuře; the style characteristics o f which, in addition to the non-standard means listed above, are contributed to by a significant amount of English loanwords, trendy words and phi ases (often from the media and advertising spheres). The use of all means of low style by the younger generation o f Czech authors is motivated by cnrical attitudes towards thecontemporary consumption-oriented society. This is documented in the páper through examples irom two playwrights (David Drábek, Petr Kolečko) and two poets (Karel Škrabal, JanTesnohlídek, Jr.). The critical orientation of the authors is directed toward the lifestyle of the society - it is, of course, a question, how to evaluate their work from the perspective of languageculture/cultivation.

Opis:
The article documents cases of grammatical, phonetic and lexical “irregularities” occurring in modern Russian. The conclusions are based on analysis of the National Corpus of the Russian Language and internet queries. The author pays special attention to phrases indicating time relations: “for some time” / “after what time”. It is noted that there is an “older” and “younger” standard for using collocations with the lexeme „time” and prepositions, and the change in the norm resulted from the transition from treating space-time as an abstract, uniform chronotope to the idea of time as a discrete quantity, i.e. certain fragmented, countable sections (century, year, month, day, hour, minute, second). Research has shown that discrete forms denoting time began to dominate from the mid-nineteenth century, which is related to the changes in the image of the world taking place at that time. The old ways of speaking about time, however, still appear in modern Russian. The article shows that other lexical and inflectional archaisms (e.g. short forms of adjectives) are also returning to modern speech. This can be considered a manifestation of social linguistic memory, which involves having the ability to recall and use old forms or meanings, according to norms that used to be applied in the past. The author proposes that this phenomenon be called “spontaneous recurrence of the norm”. It is claimed that such recurrence of the old norm may be caused either by speakers’ ignorance of the current norm or by their desire for a “retro” style that results from fashion or manners. It could also be a manifestation of “language refreshment” through the activation of speech memory, or retrieving former forms and old standards out of the “subconscious” of language users.

Communicative value is formed by the essential principles of nalional culture communi cative category that regularly and naturally manifests itself in language and speech sys tem (a system of language assessment, lexical categories, and the rules of specific speech genres, etc.) in the text and generał cognitive relationship with the world (cul- tural aspects o f the assessment of (he picture o f the word). In the study, selected areas and forms of communication are due to the category of personality, and its linguistic and communicative phenomenon. The communicative values in new and newest areas of Russian speech are analyzed: in the “post-perestroika” Russian press (1992-2012), Russian political discourse (for ma! and informal), the Internet communication (encyclopedias, Online forums), as well as in Russian art literaturę of XIX-XX centuries (and cinema). Ali these areas háve not yet been the subject of linguistic research in tenns of communicative values within the same system of theoretical concepts and techniques, although the relevance of such a study in modem Russian studies is certain: on the one hand, the Russian culture in generał is highly communicative, as evidenced by many of its key concepts - dusha ‘soul’, pravda ‘truth’, spravedlivost’ ‘justice’, and iskrennosť ‘sincerity’. About the “deep confessionalness” of Russian dialogue, wrote the great Russian philosopher M.M.Bakhtin. On the other hand, these new and newest spheres of Russian communica tion are highly relevant to the overall communicative space of modem Russia, and or- ganize its structural and substantive rules, pattems, categories, values - in many ways defining part of it. Communication o f people in these areas, in most cases, can only be described as, on the one hand, in high degree socially and personálly meaningful, infor- mative and emotionally rich, has the undoubted tendency for expansion in terms of speed, interactivity, quality o f feedback. On the other hand, this communication has not yet completed its finał formation in its basie forms and genres, and is often character- ized by severe disharmony and conflicts.
