The unity of the Church from everywhere has always been of major concern for the early Christians. They understood this unity as an existing and tangible experience, and not as a remote perspective hidden in the uncertainty of the future. Besides, they believed that the unity of the Church can assure the cohesion between the Christian communities, and the communication inside the Christian community was, in its turn, the essential condition that provided the support for, the consolidation and the development of the ecclesiastic unity. The Fathers of the Church have understood the importance of keeping and supporting the unity and the stability inside the Church, in order to provide an efficient Christian mission everywhere in the world. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the evolution and complexity of the ecumenical dimension of the ecclesiology of Irenaeus of Lyon, one of the most representatives of the Fathers of the Church, during the early centuries. He understood the power of the dialogue and the pastoral mission, and he preached not only for the early Christians, who, at that time, found themselves surrounded and confused by different inaccurate doctrines, but also for the pagans. He preached to those pagans the message of Jesus Christ’s Gospel of love.

Eine der wichtigen und neusten Früchte des ökumenischen Engagements der Kirchen ist das Dokument der Kommission für Glauben und Kirchenverfassung des Weltkirchenrats unter dem Titel Die Kirche: Auf dem Weg zu einer gemein- samen Vision. Der Text der Vereinbarung stütz sich auf der biblischen Vision der christlichen Einheit. Er leitet sich aus dem Grundziel her, das sich die Kommissi- on „Glauben und Kirchenverfassung“ stellt, und das ist: „den Kirchen zu dienen, indem sie einander zur sichtbaren Einheit aufrufen in einem Glauben und einer eucharistischen Gemeinschaft, die sich im Gottesdienst und im gemeinsamen Le- ben in Christus wie auch durch Zeugnis und Dienst an der Welt äußert, und auf diese Einheit zugehen, damit die Welt glaube“ (Vorwort). Der Unterzeichner der Vereinbarung nach, sei der präsentierte Text ein Aufruf an Kirchen das Innere zu erneuern und somit sich mehr auf einen gegenseitigen Dialog zu öffnen, denn nur solche Einstellung zum „Verständnis“, besonders auf der ekklesiologischen Ebene und somit zum Anwachsen der ekklesialen Kom- munion führt. Die Kommission für Glauben und Kirchenverfassung weist auf wesentliche Elemente hin, die über die Gestalt der ekklesialen Kommunion ent- scheiden. Dies sind: Gemeinschaft in der Fülle des apostolischen Glaubens, im sakramentalen Leben und in einem wahrhaft geeinten und wechselseitig aner- kannten Amt (siehe Nr. 37). Die Autoren des Berichts erinnern, „Der Weg hin zur vollen Verwirklichung der Gemeinschaft als Gottes Gabe fordert von den christ- lichen Gemeinschaften, sich über die grundlegenden Aspekte des Lebens der Kir- che zu einigen“ (siehe Nr. 37). Dies kann durch das volle Engagement der Kir- chen geschehen, dass aus dem Vertrauen auf den Heiligen Geist entspringt. Der Heilige Geist baut die verletzten Beziehungen zwischen den Kirchen auf. Er ach- tet die menschliche Freiheit und gleichzeitig hat er die Kraft zur Inspiration und Wandlung von innen. Die Einheit, die er bildet, ist eine Einheit in Vielfalt und Verschiedenheit.

The author of the article shows the threads inspiring the ecumenical vocation of one of the basic authors of Catholic theology dealing with the issues of ecumenism, Yves Congar (1905-1988). Presenting this context allows us to capture the circumstances of the creation of the work that is a milestone in Catholic reflection on this matter: Chrétiens désunis. Principes d'un «œcuménisme» catholique (1937) and an outline of the later evolution of its author's views.

This article focuses on catechetical meaning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity inthe diocese of Opole based on pastoral letters of bishop A. Czaja issued in years 2016–2018for the very purpose of the Week’s celebrations. These letters are very important for thecatechesis focused on ecumenism. They consist of valuable teachings on the Catechismas well as invitation to get involved in the ecumenical movement. In those pastoral lettersare presented especially issues that are derived from particular goals of the catechesis like:growth in understanding of the faith, introduction to the mission, formation in prayer, aswell as fostering life within the community.
Artykuł podejmuje problematykę katechetycznego znaczenia Tygodnia Powszechnej Modlitwyo Jedność Chrześcijan w diecezji opolskiej w oparciu o listy pasterskie z lat 2016–2018, jakie bp A. Czaja skierował do wiernych w związku z obchodami tego tygodnia.Są one ważne z punktu widzenia współczesnej katechezy ukierunkowanej ekumenicznie.Zawierają cenne pouczenia katechizmowe oraz zaproszenie do włączenia się w ruch ekumeniczny.W sposób szczególny w listach pasterskich bpa A. Czai obecne są zagadnienia,które wynikają z realizacji takich zadań katechezy, jak: rozwój poznania wiary, wprowadzeniedo misji, wychowanie do modlitwy oraz wychowanie do życia wspólnotowego.

Opis:
A genesis of Christian churches combines ideas: the Church – the God’s House (Domus Dei) and the Church – a home of worshipers (Domus Ecclesia). The essence of architectural creation is set by a church liturgy. A timeless-transcendent act of a liturgy takes place in a real environment of a believers’ community. Churches forms contain immutable elements – rooted in a liturgy, and values derived from conditions of time and place. Universalism and dynamism of the Church is reflected by an evolution of the sacral architecture of Christianity. Contemporary churches, which fit well into a term the “demythologized” Christian architecture, are an expression of ecumenical aspirations for an unity of faith.

Celem niniejszego opracowania jest prezentacja kluczowych aspektów ekumenicznej wizji papieża Franciszka w perspektywie ewangelizacji. Na początku zwrócono uwagę na współzależność ruchu ekumenicznego i ewangelizacyjnej misji Kościoła. Następnie przedstawiono w kluczu misyjnym wybrane elementy ekumenicznej wizji papieża Franciszka: naturę i cel dążeń ekumenicznych, model jedności oraz podstawowe wymiary dynamiki dążenia do jej urzeczywistnienia. W końcowej części sformułowano wnioski i wskazano na zagadnienia domagające się dalszych badań. Z przeprowadzonych analiz wynika, że postrzeganie ekumenizmu w optyce ewangelizacji stanowi ważny klucz do lepszego zrozumienia ekumenicznej myśli i aktywności papieża Franciszka.
The present essay aims at presenting key aspects of the ecumenical vision of Pope Francis in the perspective of evangelization. First, the author focused upon the interdependence of the ecumenical movement and the evangelizing mission of the Church. Next, the author presented selected elements of the ecumenical vision of Pope Francis: the nature and aim of ecumenical efforts, the model of unity and basic dimensions of the dynamics of striving to realize it. Finally, the author formulated his conclusions and pointed to some issues which must be investigated further. It follows from the analysis made that perceiving ecumenism in the perspective of evangelization is an important key to a better understanding of the ecumenical thought and activity of Pope Francis.

4 grudnia 2020 Papieska Rada dla Popierania Jedności Chrześcijan opublikowała liczący ok. 50 stron dokument pt. Biskup i jedność chrześcijan: vademecum ekumeniczne. Ma on być przewodnikiem „w ekumenicznej drodze” biskupa wraz z jego diecezją. Vademecum bazuje na istniejących już dokumentach Kościoła katolickiego na temat ekumenizmu, ale wybiera z nich treści najbardziej praktyczne, uwzględniając najnowsze osiągnięcia ruchu ekumenicznego. Opisuje jaka powinna być ekumeniczna postawa wiernych Kościoła katolickiego, których w tym zakresie powinna cechować prawda, miłość, pokora, cierpliwość i wytrwałość. Vademecum ukazuje, że biskup powinien być człowiekiem jedności, dialogu i kultury spotkania. Jego posługa jedności jest głęboko związana z synodalnością, gdyż zarówno synodalność i jak ekumenizm są procesami wspólnej drogi. Dokument opisuje służące ekumenizmowi struktury Kościoła i sposoby działania: ekumenizm duchowy, dialog miłości, dialog prawdy i dialog życia, który zawiera w sobie ekumenizm duszpasterski, ekumenizm praktyczny i ekumenizm kulturowy. Vademecum przypomina dotychczasowe zasady communicatio in sacris, nic w nich nie zmieniając, choć przyjmuje perspektywę biskupa i dlatego współuczestnictwo w życiu sakramentalnym pojmuje raczej jako część ekumenizmu duszpasterskiego niż aspekt ekumenizmu duchowego. Niezwykle cenną rzeczą Vademecum są jego zalecenia praktyczne, które w sposób prosty i konkretny przekładają wyłożoną wcześniej treść na język czynów. Do dokumentu dołączono niezwykle użyteczny aneks, który zawiera syntetyczny opis partnerów Kościoła katolickiego w ekumenicznym dialogu międzynarodowym. Vademecum jest tekstem na tyle praktycznym, że skorzystają z niego nie tylko biskupi; może stanowić pomoc dla wszystkich osób zaangażowanych w ekumenizm.
The 4 December 2020, the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity published a document of about 50 pages, entitled The Bishop and Christian unity: an ecumenical vademecum. It is to be a guide “on the ecumenical path” of the bishop and his diocese. The Vademecum is based on the existing documents of the Catholic Church on ecumenism, but selects the most practical content from them, taking into account the latest achievements of the ecumenical movement. It describes what should be the ecumenical attitude of the faithful of the Catholic Church, who should be characterized by truth, love, humility, patience, and persistence. The Vademecum shows that a bishop should be a man of unity, dialogue, and a culture of encounter. His ministry of unity is deeply linked to synodality since both synodality and ecumenism are processes of the common path. The document describes the structures of the Church and the modes of operation that serve ecumenism: spiritual ecumenism, the dialogue of love, the dialogue of truth, and dialogue of life. The last includes pastoral ecumenism, practical ecumenism, and cultural ecumenism. The Vademecum resembles previous rules of communicatio in sacris, without changing them, although it adopts the bishop's perspective and therefore understands participation in sacramental life as a part of the pastoral ecumenism rather than an aspect of spiritual ecumenism. The practical recommendations that translate the previously laid out content into the language of actions in a simple and concrete way are very valuable. The document is accompanied by a very useful appendix that contains a synthetic description of the partners of the Catholic Church in ecumenical international dialogue. The Vademecum is a text so practical that not only bishops will use it; it can help all those involved in ecumenism.

Christian unity is desired by Christ Himself and, consequently, it is also a continuous imperative of Christian conscience and particular care on part of each pope. The starting point of J. Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s thought and teaching is clear distinction between seeking unity through human strategy and the way to unity ultimately accepted as the gift of God Himself. Consequently, it paves the way for thinking about Christian schism in the context of ”Divine retribution”, i.e. the situation where God still acts and attracts to Himself. Such perspective protects against vanity and ambition to organise the world as if according to “God’s way”, but – in practice – without God. J. Ratzinger/Benedict XVI copes with ecumenically tempting notions-proposals (such as, for example, pluralism) that lead to an apprehensive acquaintance with identity. His lodestars are: Christ – the Truth – longing – patience – suffering – good – conversion.

To the 10 th Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Busan, Republic of Korea (30 October to 8 November 2013) we owe two particularly important doc- uments which are relevant to the problem of ecological crisis and endangered hu- man environment. They are: the convergence text The Church: Towards a Com- mon Vision and Unity Statement. The first one is a result of many years’ work of the Commission Faith and Order. In both documents one can see a profound preoccupation of Christian Churches about the integrity of the whole creation of God. As creation has been misused, Christians are not allowed to remain indiffer- ent to this fact. We truly live today “in the tension between the profoundest hope and the deepest despair”. To this urgent issue the author devotes his reflections in the following points: the divine plan for the universe; our faults concerning the divine gift of life; God wants reconciliation for the whole of creation; continuation of some earlier initia- tives undertaken by the WCC to protect the creation; towards a new sensibility to the fate of the creation; the nature itself teaches us humility. God is the ultimate future of all his creatures. “The New Testament ends with the vision of a new heaven and a new earth, transformed by the grace of God (cf. Rev. 21:1–22:5). This new cosmos is promised for the end of history but is already present in an anticipatory way even now...” (Towards a Common Vision, par. 69).

Opis:
Sociologists often deal with issues such as religion, spirituality, Church institutions’ functioning and theirs relationships with social environment or religious based conflicts. There are specific disciplins (e.g. sociology of religion, sociology of Church, sociology of parish), which are specialized in research, trends examining and creating concepts and theories within this spheres of social life. However, the issue of interconfessional relationships, which are focused on cooperation and unity, is taken by sociologists relatively seldom. In the article I try to reply on this deficiency by presenting the problem of ecumenism from sociological perspective. Based on own research, I discuss following issues: declarative Christians’ attitude to ecumenism, their personal commitment in ecumenical movement, knowledge about ecumenism, respondents’ opinions on ecumenical institutions (e.g. The World Council of Churches) and on ecumenical commitment of their own confessional groups. The main conclusions concern discrepancies between declarations of positive attitudeto idea of ecumenism and low level of knowledge and personal activity in this field. The article – besides attempt of showing ‘ecumenical situation’ among secular Christians – try to invite for the debate on justification of dealing with ‘ecumenism issue’ by sociologists.
Socjologowie często podejmują problematykę religii, duchowości, funkcjonowania instytucji religijnych, ich relacji z otoczeniem społecznym czy konfliktów na tle religijnym. Niektóre z dyscyplin szczegółowych, np. socjologia religii, socjologia Kościoła, socjologia parafii, wyspecjalizowały się w badaniach, obserwacji trendów oraz tworzeniu koncepcji i teorii dotyczących zjawiska religii i religijności. Jednak problem relacji międzywyznaniowych, które są nastawione na współpracę i pojednanie, podejmowany jest stosunkowo rzadko na gruncie socjologii. Niniejszym tekstem, ukazującym kwestię ekumenizmu z perspektywy socjologicznej, staram się odpowiedzieć na te niedobory. Na podstawie badań własnych omawiam zagadnienia deklaratywnego stosunku chrześcijan do ekumenizmu, ich osobistego zaangażowania w ruch ekumeniczny, wiedzy na jego temat, a także ocen respondentów dotyczących instytucji ekumenicznych i działań własnego Kościoła w tym zakresie. Główne spostrzeżenia dotyczą rozbieżności postaw ankietowanych chrześcijan: istnieje dysproporcja pomiędzy deklaratywnym poparciem dla idei i działań ekumenicznycha osobistym zaangażowaniem w ruch i wiedzą na jego temat. Poza próbą nakreślenia „sytuacji ekumenicznej” wśród świeckich chrześcijan celem artykułu jest zaproszenie do debaty nad zasadnością zajmowania się kwestią ekumenizmu przez socjologów.

Der Artikel knüpft an die Aussage des Dokumentes der Kommission für Glauben und Kirchenverfassung Die Kirche: Auf dem Weg zu einer gemeinsa- men Vision über die Kirche als Zeichen und Dienerin des Heilsplans Gottes für die Welt und den Ausdruck „die Kirche als Sakrament“ an. Im Hinblick auf die ökumenisch relevante Formel für das Verständnis der Kirche fragen die Ver- fasser des Dokumentes, ob es legitime Unterschiede in der Beschreibung der Rolle und der Stellung der Kirche im Heilsgeschehen miteinander vereinbar und gegenseitig annehmbar sind? Die Ausführungen dieses Artikels versuchen auf die obenerwähnte Frage Antwort zu finden, indem sie auf die daraus resultieren- de Problematik eingehen. Die letzte Konvergenzerklärung der Kommission für Glauben und Kirchenverfassung, die echte Grundlage in den vorausgegangen ökumenischen Dialogen und darin erzielten Konsensen findet, fasst diese Pro- blematik in drei Punkten zusammen: die Frage der Einzigartigkeit der „Sakra- mentalität“ der Sakramente, die Nichtbestreitung der Schwäche menschlicher Amtsträger sowie das allgemeine Verständnis der Kirche als eines wirksamen Zeichens der Gegenwart Gottes und seines Wirkens. Die drei Problemfelder bil- den die jeweiligen Abschnitte des Artikels, eingeleitet von kurzer Einführung über konfessionelle Bedingungen in der Anwendung der sakramentalen Katego- rien in der Ekklesiologie.

Kard. Kurt Koch od 1 lipca 2010 r. pełni obowiązki przewodniczącego Papieskiej Rady ds. Popierania Jedności Chrześcijan (obecnie: Dykasterii ds. Popierania Jedności Chrześcijan) i jednocześnie przewodniczącego Komisji ds. Kontaktów Religijnych z Judaizmem. Obowiązki administracyjne nie zubożyły i nie pomniejszyły jego refleksji naukowej. Jego myśl jest w wielu aspektach oryginalna i klarowana. Odnosi się z szacunkiem do tradycji, ale równie mocno oddycha problemami współczesności. W centrum jego rozważań jest tajemnica Kościoła i jego powołania do promowania jedności wśród świadków Chrystusa. Jest bowiem przekonany, że chrześcijanie są dzisiaj prześladowani nie dlatego, że są katolikami czy prawosławnymi, protestantami czy zielonoświątkowcami, ale dlatego, że są chrześcijanami. Niniejszy tekst prezentuje postać i kilka spojrzeń na jego eklezjologię w wymiarze ekumenicznym.
Cardinal Kurt Koch has been serving as president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (now: Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity) since July 1, 2010 and at the same time as president of the Commission for Religious Relations with Judaism. Administrative duties have not impoverished or diminished his theological reflection. His thought is in many ways original and lucid. He refers with respect to tradition, but he breathes equally strongly the problems of the present. At the center of his reflections is the mystery of the Church and its vocation to promote unity among the witnesses of Christ. He is convinced that Christians are persecuted today not because they are Catholics or Orthodox, Protestants or Pentecostals, but because they are Christians. This text presents the figure and some views on his ecclesiology.

Artykuł opisuje ordynariaty dla anglikanów z eklezjologicznego punktu widzenia. Publikacja Konstytucji Apostolskiej papieża Benedykta XVI Anglicanorum coetibus stworzyła nową sytuację w stosunkach międzykonfesjonalnych i dążeniu do jedności Kościoła. Po pierwsze autor wyjaśnia, czym są ordynariaty dla anglikanów i jakie rozwiązania zawiera konstytucja apostolska Anglicanorum coetibus. W drugim punkcie artykułu znajduje się analiza modelu eklezjologicznego stworzonego przez konstytucję Anglicanorum coetibus. Nie będąc powrotem do dawnej metody odtwarzania jedności Kościoła przez częściowe unie (tj. przez tak zwany „uniatyzm” lub „unionizm”), ordynariaty oferują konwertującym anglikanom możliwość utrzymania ich tradycji liturgicznej. Ordynariaty cieszą się także dużą skalą niezależności w ramach Kościoła katolickiego. Oprócz jasnych stron są też cienie. Autor wskazuje na główną słabość eklezjologiczną konstrukcji zwanej „Ordynariatem”. Tradycja liturgiczna anglikanizmu przeniesiona do ordynariatów jest w rzeczywistości pozbawiona naturalnego kontekstu teologicznego, jakim jest anglikanizm. Dlatego rozwiązanie zaproponowane przez model ordynariatu jeden z teologów anglikańskich nazwał „skróconą wersją anglikanizmu”. Ostatni punkt artykułu poświęcony jest przedstawieniu pierwszych reakcji anglikańskich na sytuację wprowadzoną przez konstytucję apostolską Anglicanorum coetibus. Najbardziej obiecującą inicjatywą jest ustanowienie tak zwanego „Przymierza Komunii Anglikańskiej”, które ma na celu konsolidację Komunii od wewnątrz, również poprzez zapobieganie podejmowaniu przez prowincje jednostronnych decyzji prowadzących do rozłamów w całym świecie anglikańskim.
The article describes the Ordinariates for Anglicans from the ecclesiological point of view. The publication of Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum coetibus created a new situation in the interconfessional relations and in the search for the unity of the Church. Firstly the Author explains what are the Ordinariates for Anglicans and what solutions contains the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum coetibus. In the second point of the article we find an analysis of an ecclesiological model created by the constitution Anglicanorum coetibus. While not being the return to the past method of gaining the unity of the Church by partial unions (i.e. so called “uniatism” or “unionism”) the Ordinariates offer to the conversing Anglicans the possibility of upkeeping their liturgical tradition. The Ordinariates also enjoy a large scale of independence in the frame of the Catholic Church. Alongside the bright spells there are also some shadows. The Author points at the major ecclesiological weakness of the construction called “Ordinariate”. The liturgical tradition of Anglicanism transferred to the Ordinariates is, in fact, deprived of its natural theological background, which is Anglican. That is why the solution offered by the Ordinariates one of the Anglican theologians called “the shortened version of Anglicanism”. The last point of the article is consecrated to the depiction of first Anglican reactions to the situation introduced by the apostolic constitution Anglicanorum coetibus. The most promising initiative is the establishment of so called “Anglican Communion Covenant”, which is designated to consolidate the Communion from inside, also by preventing the provinces from taking unilateral decisions leading to the breaks in the whole of the Anglican World.

An ecclesiastical role of the two Sacraments, namely Baptism and Eucharist, has been presented with an ecumenical sensitivity in the perspective of Catholic and Protestant theology. The presentation of the Church and the Sacraments in the Medieval Catholic theology is the starting point of these considerations. Then we have sketched the discrepancies between the Roman theology in force at that time, and the postulates of the reformers in the XV and XVI century’s tendencies for the renewal of the whole Church. The next part of the article focuses on the perspective of the Church and its connections with Baptism and the Eucharist in the original Lutheran doctrine. Further analysis is a presentation of the modern approaches of these connections in both Catholic and Protestant perspectives. The synthesis for this study is the common Baptismal and Eucharistic elements, which make up the ecclesiastical reality, despite of Sacramental differences in their understanding. Baptism and Eucharist make ecclesial unity. Thanks to this theoretical and theological reflection there is a clearer view of pastoral and practical possibilities of brining those two traditions of the divided Christianity of the West (Roman/Lutheran) closer.
Z ekumeniczną wrażliwością ukazana jest eklezjotwórcza rola dwóch sakramentów, a mianowicie chrztu i Eucharystii w perspektywie tradycji katolickiej i protestanckiej. Punktem wyjścia jest prezentacja Kościoła i sakramentów w średniowiecznej teologii katolickiej. Następnie mamy naszkicowane rozbieżności między obowiązującą wówczas teologią rzymską a postulatami reformatorów w XV- i XVI-wiecznych nurtach odnowy całego Kościoła. Kolejna część artykułu zatrzymała się na ujęciu Kościoła i jego powiązań z chrztem i Eucharystią w pierwotnej doktrynie luterskiej. Dalsze analizy stanowi prezentacja już współczesnych ujęć omawianych związków tak u katolików, jak i protestantów. Synteza to wspólne elementy chrzcielne i eucharystyczne, jakie budują eklezjalną rzeczywistość, mimo sakramentalnej odmienności w ich rozumieniu. Chrzest i Eucharystia sprawiają bowiem kościelną jedność. Dzięki tej teoretyczno-teologicznej refleksji rysują się wyraźniej pastoralne i praktyczne możliwości zbliżenia dwóch tradycji (rzymskiej i luterańskiej) podzielonego chrześcijaństwa Zachodu.
