Jest to polemika z poglądem, że zanikanie wiary, praktyk religijnych oraz wpływu Kościoła na życie społeczne jest procesem nieuchronnym i z góry przesądzonym. Autor podziela socjologiczną tezę José Casanovy, że coraz głębsza dechrystianizacja społeczeństw dotychczas chrześcijańskich wydaje się bardziej hipotezą, niż faktem empirycznym. Ponadto, z jednej strony stawia pytanie o pozytywny sens procesów sekularyzacji, już od trzech stuleci drążących chrześcijaństwo europejskie, z drugiej zaś strony – przypomina opisane w Biblii oraz znane z historii Kościoła fakty dramatycznej depopulacji ludu Bożego. Na pytanie zaś, czy mamy się spodziewać raczej narastania procesów sekularyzacyjnych, niż ich odwrócenia, odpowiada specyficznie polską, pochodząca z XVII wieku formułą: Fortuna variabilis, Deus mirabilis (Świat kręci się rozmaicie, a Pan Bóg jest przedziwny!)
This is an argument with an idea that faith and religious practices are fading away, the influence of the Church on the life of society is coming to an end, and that it is a process that is inevitable and irreversible. The author shares Jose Casanova’s proposition that the ever increasing dechristianization of the hitherto Christian societies seems to be more of a hypothesis than an empirical fact. Moreover, on the one hand, he puts forward questions about the positive sense of the process of secularization that has been wearing down European Christianity for three centuries now, and on the other, he recalls cases, described in the Bible and known in the history of the Church, of a dramatic depopulation of God’s people. And the question, whether we are to expect an increase of the secularization process, rather than its reversal, he answers with the following, specifically Polish, 17th century, formula: Fortuna variabilis, Deus mirabilis (the world goes round at random, and God is admirable!).
Der Artikel ist eine Auseinandersetzung mit der Ansicht, dass das Schwinden des Glaubens der religiösen Praktiken und des Einflusses der Kirche auf das gesellschaftliche Leben ein unausweichlicher und besiegelter Prozess ist. Der Verfasser teilt die soziologische These von José Casanova, dass die sich vertiefende Dechristianisierung der bisher christlichen Gesellschaften mehr eine Hypothese als ein empirisches Faktum ist. Außerdem stellt er einerseits die Frage nach dem positiven Sinn des Säkularisierungsprozesses, der schon seit drei Jahrhunderten die europäische Christenheit aushöhlt, und erinnert andererseits an die in der Bibel beschriebenen und aus der Kirchengeschichte bekannten Tatsachen der Depopulation des Gottesvolkes. Die Frage, ob wir eher ein Auflaufen der Säkularisierungsprozesse oder sein Abflauen erwarten sollen, beantwortet der Verfasser mit der spezifisch polnischen, aus dem 17. Jh. Stammenden Formel: Fortuna variabilis, Deus mirabilis (Die Welt dreht sich verschieden und der Herrgott ist wunderbar!). - Źródło:
