Opis:
Let A be a commutative Banach algebra with Gelfand space ∆ (A). Denote by Aut (A) the group of all continuous automorphisms of A. Consider a σ(A,∆(A))-continuous group representation α:G → Aut(A) of a locally compact abelian group G by automorphisms of A. For each a ∈ A and φ ∈ ∆(A), the function $φ_a(t):=φ(α_t a)$ t ∈ G is in the space C(G) of all continuous and bounded functions on G. The weak-star spectrum $σ_w*(φ_a)$ is defined as a closed subset of the dual group Ĝ of G. For φ ∈ ∆(A) we define $Ʌ_φ^a$ to be the union of all sets $σ_w*(φ_a)$ where a ∈ A, and $Λ_α$ to be the closure of the union of all sets $Ʌ_φ^a$ where φ ∈ ∆(A), and call $Λ_α$ the unitary spectrum of α. Starting by showing that the closure of $Ʌ_φ^a$ (for fixed φ ∈ ∆(A)) is a subsemigroup of Ĝ we characterize the structure properties of the group representation α such as norm continuity, growth and existence of non-trivial invariant subspaces through its unitary spectrum $Λ_α.$ For an automorphism T of a semisimple commutative Banach algebra A we consider the group representation T: ℤ → Aut (A) defined by $T_n:=T^n$ for all n ∈ ℤ. It is shown that $Λ_T=σ(T)∩$, where σ(T) is the spectrum of T and is the unit circle. From this fact we give an easy proof of the Kamowitz-Scheinberg theorem which asserts that the spectrum σ(T) either contains or is a finite union of finite subgroups of .

Let T be a representation of a suitable abelian semigroup S by isometries on a Banach space. We study the spectral conditions which will imply that T(s) is invertible for each s in S. On the way we analyse the relationship between the spectrum of T, Sp(T,S), and its unitary spectrum $Sp_{u}(T,S)$. For $S = ℤ^{n}_{+}$ or $ℝ^{n}_{+}$, we establish connections with polynomial convexity.

We give a construction of an analytic series of uniformly bounded representations of a free group G, through the action of G on its Poisson boundary. These representations are irreducible and give as their coefficients all the spherical functions on G which tend to zero at infinity. The principal and the complementary series of unitary representations are included. We also prove that this construction and the other known constructions lead to equivalent representations.

Let J be an abelian topological semigroup and C a subset of a Banach space X. Let L(X) be the space of bounded linear operators on X and Lip(C) the space of Lipschitz functions ⨍: C → C. We exhibit a large class of semigroups J for which every weakly continuous semigroup homomorphism T: J → L(X) is necessarily strongly continuous. Similar results are obtained for weakly continuous homomorphisms T: J → Lip(C) and for strongly measurable homomorphisms T: J → L(X).

We derive various integral representation formulas for a function minus a polynomial in terms of vector field gradients of the function of appropriately high order. Our results hold in the general setting of metric spaces, including those associated with Carnot-Carathéodory vector fields, under the assumption that a suitable $L^1$ to $L^1$ Poincaré inequality holds. Of particular interest are the representation formulas in Euclidean space and stratified groups, where polynomials exist and $L^1$ to $L^1$ Poincaré inequalities involving high order derivatives are known to hold. We apply the formulas to derive embedding theorems and potential type inequalities involving high order derivatives.

For any pair E,F of pseudotopological vector spaces, we endow the space L(E,F) of all continuous linear operators from E into F with a pseudotopology such that, if G is a pseudotopological space, then the mapping L(E,F) × L(F,G) ∋ (f,g) → gf ∈ L(E,G) is continuous. We use this pseudotopology to establish a result about differentiability of certain operator-valued functions related with strongly continuous one-parameter semigroups in Banach spaces, to characterize von Neumann algebras, and to establish a result about integration of Lie algebra representations.

Opis:
The notion of bundle convergence in von Neumann algebras and their $L_2$-spaces for single (ordinary) sequences was introduced by Hensz, Jajte, and Paszkiewicz in 1996. Bundle convergence is stronger than almost sure convergence in von Neumann algebras. Our main result is the extension of the two-parameter Rademacher-Men'shov theorem from the classical commutative case to the noncommutative case. To our best knowledge, this is the first attempt to adopt the notion of bundle convergence to multiple series. Our method of proof is different from the classical one, because of the lack of the triangle inequality in a noncommutative von Neumann algebra. In this context, bundle convergence resembles the regular convergence introduced by Hardy in the classical case. The noncommutative counterpart of convergence in Pringsheim's sense remains to be found.
