Opis:: The article presents the image of Polish community in Iceland. The migration from Poland to Iceland is a relatively new phenomenon. The presence of Poles on the island dates back to the interwar period. However more numerous Polish community in Iceland was shaped only in the 90. of the the twentieth century. It was connected with migration of Polish workforce. Currently, the number of Poles on the island is estimated at about 10.000 people.

Opis:: The purpose of this dissertation is to try to show how Polish-Swedish families come into being, how they function, what is the cultural environment in the context of national identity and the heritage of development of Polish-Swedish contacts. The research hypothesis in the dissertation is the claim that human migra-tion is a civilisation phenomenon and that ethnically mixed marriages are em-bedded in the process, while mixed Polish-Swedish marriages show that in real-ity the marriages are strongly determined by the cultural identity (including but not limited to tradition) of both parties and pursuance of social policy by the state and various political organisations. The applied research methods have been taken from political science re-search. Of high significance was the system method. The picture of the Polish community permanently living in Sweden has been considered as one system (structural wholeness), where various elements are connected, interlinked at many levels and have an impact on one another. The basic research technique in the research procedure was analysis of the source materials and literature on Sweden’s cultural identity and on phenom-ena and processes concerning occurrence and functioning of mixed Polish-Swedish marriages.

Opis:: The article in a general way presents the shaping of the process of migration from Poland to Iceland and the determinants and contributing factors of this pro-cess. It is noted that Polish community in Iceland is the youngest Polish community in Scandinavia and one of the youngest Polish community in the world. Although the beginnings of Polish settlement on the island dates back to the interwar period, a more numerous Polish diaspora in Iceland was formed only in the 90s of the twentieth century, and its current face is mostly the result of the influx of Polish immigrants to this country, which took place after 2006, as a effect of the opening of the Icelandic labor market for Polish workers. It is estimated that currently in Iceland lives around nine thousand Poles.
