The present paper explores how political thinking in Poland changed after the election campaigns (general and presidential) of 2015. Its main goal is to determine what the current developments mean for the future of democracy in Poland. Will Poland face a new wave of autocratization – similar to Pilsudski’s one? The paper is based on empirical research conducted during the last presidential and general elections in Poland. An e-survey covering 10,000 respondents was conducted, out of whom over 4,000 left their data for further analysis. The main aim of the study was to find a connection between patterns of political thinking and electoral behavior, demonstrating a link between one’s set of political values and one’s voting decisions. The ruling party in Poland openly refers to esthetics and rhetoric of an authoritarian regime introduced by Pilsudski. Its election slogan: “A good change” has been treated as reference to the interwar concept of “sanacja” driven from the Latin term “sanatio” which means to cleanse or to heal. The main goal of the Sanacja political group was to amend the then parliamentary democracy, which they believed was corrupt and inefficient. The authors of the paper try to present recent patterns and changes in the electorate. In its summary, the paper includes some predictions for the future of the Polish democracy, based on empirical data and observed actions of the ruling party.

The article addresses the issues related to the implementation of the European Union’s actions for sustainable development policy and the implementation of the 17 UN Development Goals through Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) being key tools for moving the world towards a sustainable development. In September 2015 the UN accepted a new global Agenda 2030 on the Sustainable Development with its tools – Sustainable Development Goals. Putting them into life should contribute to shifting the economic and political relations between developing, emerging and developed countries. According to the Agenda motto “ no one will be left behind”. To achieve this aim by EU not only a significant rethinking of its external policy must take place but also its domestic actions must be changed. A fundamental tool to achieve this goal and implement the Agenda should be STI which allows the transition of EU and its underdeveloped partners to new sustainable ways of their economies and societies development.

In Central and Eastern Europe populist regimes are attracting attention as are sult of the traumatic legacy of communism, the subsequent overburdening reforms and exhausting systemic transformation, resurgence of ever-lurking nationalism, regional conservatism, parochialism and cultural chauvinism, and/or as an example of the structural shortcomings of young democracies at the borders of civilization. The subject literature also indicates numerous and universal elements of populist governments, present as well in this part of Europe. Without prejudging the aptness and strength of these various concepts and arguments, this article is an attempt to include in these wideranging themes a particular issue that absorbs conservative populists, namely “childhood” and “children”. While the problem of children in politics has already received numerous interpretations, the importance of childhood in the right-wing populist discourse and politics has so far remained an issue discussed only occasionally. We put forward the thesis that children play an important and specific role in the right-wing populist superstructure - they constitute an illusory picture of the nation, an allegory of its renewal, as well as a convenient, though inconsistently used, instrument for achieving political, ideological and propaganda goals. Attitudes towards children can be an important characteristic of populism as such, and should be taken into account in research on the subject. We will illustrate these problems using the example of Poland and the populist Law and Justice (PiS) Party that is in power there now.

Poland and Hungary have been widely recognised as countries affected by illiberalism. This has undoubtedly created a challenging environment for interest groups; groups which are a touchstone for the quality of democratic processes. In this article, we aim to understand how preconditions for interest representation have changed due to illiberal drift through the eyes of interest groups operating in these two selected post-communist countries. In order to examine their perception of opportunity structures, interaction infrastructure as well as the level of political coordination under the new circumstances, we rely on quantitative research in the form of a survey carried out among interest group representatives. Our results indicate that the political systems of Poland and Hungary are still a mix of pluralist and corporatist features, however, the Polish political opportunity structures are still more open to input from civic society and interest groups have stronger positions compared to the situation in Hungary.

Brexit has betrayed the disadvantages of the European project along with the fact that European institutions have no desire to conduct deeper reforms. Brexit cannot be considered without the stance that the British have developed not only in the last few years but generally over the period of its integration with continental Europe. A study shows the political consequences of the UK’s exit from the European Union alog with the potential scenarios of Poland’s European policy in the next 2–3 years. This article presents three scenarios for the development of Poland's European policy, i.e. the British scenario, a conservative scenario and a pro-European scenario. In addition, this article aims to show the potential activities of the Polish government in the context of selected scenarios for the development of the situation in Europe. Currently, the most likely is the British scenario, where the Polish government concentrates on those areas of integration that are important to it. The European Union will be treated by Poland as an economic organization providing access to the common European market as well as political support in the event of disputes with the powers. The adoption of the British scenario by Poland assumes an evolutionary drift towards polexit. The least realistic choice of scenario is the strongly pro-European approach. This would require a total change in Poland's European policy strategy and the abandoning of internal reforms.

Opis:
Nowadays, the significance of women in the international movement of migrants is important both from a quantitative and qualitative point of view. Many migrant women move to other countries either on their own or to join their husbands or other family members. The number of migrant women is also increasing in Europe. For this reason, focusing on the phenomenon of gender-based migration has become an important research element and affects many areas. The mass migration of women from highly diverse cultural backgrounds to European countries draws particular attention to the problems of integrating these women in host countries. However, most European countries lack integration policies that take into account the real needs of migrant women. Given that women account for almost half of all migrants, data on migration should be gender-sensitive and state policies must take into account how gender actually shapes the different needs of migrants. Also, since migrant women/ refugees who come to European countries constitute a heterogeneous group in many respects, this heterogeneity should be taken into account in integration processes. In this article, two issues have been taken into account as research questions: 1, are immigrant/refugee women treated the same as immigrant/refugee men? and 2, is gender taken into account in the integration policies of European countries? To study the issues presented in the article, a review of the available literature was used, as well as data available on the websites of the OECD and the European Commission.

This paper starts with an assumption that geopolitics, understood as one of the great schools of international relations, is not only still relevant but, indeed, should be one of the essential items in the toolkit of any student or policymaker who peruses the challenging and ever-eluding realm of international security. It draws chiefly on Sir Halford Mackinder’s Heartland theory in order to explain the dynamics of contemporary European security in general, and the ongoing war in Ukraine in particular. The analysis, which relies heavily on a historical examination of the geopolitical realities of Central and Eastern Europe, leads the author to a pair of conclusions. Firstly, the conflict in Ukraine is likely to linger on albeit with unpredictable intensity and, secondly perhaps more importantly, the outcome of the war will only be one of many steps leading to the emergence of a new, possibly multipolar, international system and consequently, and more obviously, a new security system in Europe, which will be strongly influenced by Germany rather than by the United States as before.

The main factor in improving the level of socio-economic development of the region, its competitiveness and investment attractiveness, in addition to the endogenous growth factors, environmental sustainability and openness of the region, is a dynamically functioning business sector, which is the core of each of the regional economy – especially the SME sector. Modern economics is based on the paradigm of enterprise economy guardian of the diversity of production, technological progress and innovation. The basis for the economic development of this concept are those small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the source of competitiveness and changes in the environment and social-economic. The European Union has set a concrete plan, which has lead to the implementation over the period 2010–2020 fi ve specifi c purposes including: innovation, education, employment, social inclusion and climate change/energy. In each of these areas, all Member States have designated, in turn, their own national targets. The Strategy Europe 2020 is equipped with appropriate instruments, which are to contribute to the development of entrepreneurship in the EU. The purpose of this article is therefore to analyze and assess the development of entrepreneurship in selected EU countries after the implementation of the Strategy Europe 2020.

The largest influx of refugees since German unification has generated new challenges and opportunities in Germany’s society, culture, politics and economy. Theory advocates the advantages for international business of institutional change, migrations and integration. However, a negative public perception can conceal and inhibit resources and opportunities for German multinational enterprises. How did the attitude of Germany towards refugees change in 2015 and 2016? How did formal and informal German institutions react on the EU refugee crisis? How has this affected decision makers in German MNEs in terms of foreign market entry choices? How do German MNEs evaluate the long-term consequences of this crisis? This paper investigates in which ways the infl ux of refugees and migrants who arrived in Germany has affected the international business strategy of German MNEs. Part Two investigates how German MNEs are infl uenced by the migration context in Germany and Europe and how this affects their foreign market entry strategies in emerging economies.

The problem of the geopolitical constructing of Central Europe appeared at the end of the 18th century. It was connected with several circumstances: the liquidation of the First Polish Republic as the largest Central European state; displacing Turkish influence from the Balkans; the modern nation-building processes and national movements of dominated nations that were initiated at this time and in this region. Attempts to geopolitical regulate the status of Central Europe because of the political dependability of this area were taken by external centers. It was element of the game between the global powers. The first striving in this direction can be seen in the Napoleonic era – in the policy of the French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte; then in Russian and later German and British projects. Then – already in the 20th century – such projects tried to undertake the elite of the reborn Poland, an eagerly seeking allies with which it could create a strong geopolitical alternative for Germany and Russia. Such project or perhaps more idea was the pre-war concept of Intermarium, and now it is the Three Seas Initiative. This article will provide an overview of all these conceptions.

The aim of the article is to present the conditions, scale and consequences of mass economic migrations from Eastern Europe to the Visegrad Group countries in the conditions of the protracted Ukrainian crisis. We will consider how the economic, political, social and cultural conditions may shape the migration flows from Eastern Europe in the future and whether Central Europe should be treated as the final destination of migration, or only the stage on the road to Western Europe. An important research problem will also be to find an answer to the question whether the growing wave of labour migration from the East may also be addressed to other countries of the Three Seas Initiative, mainly to Bulgaria and Romania, and to the Baltic States, and how it can affect the situation of Central European countries and the entire European Union.
