Dorobek naukowy Marie-Dominique’a Chenu (1895 – 1990), francuskiego dominikanina, mediewisty i teologa, należy do jednych z najważniejszych w historii teologii XX wieku. Jego koncepcja teologii „konkretnej i historycznej” wychodzi naprzeciw postulatowi odnowy Kościoła, wysuniętemu przez II Sobór Watykański. Chenu uważa teologię za naukę sui generis, będącą w swej istocie zrozumieniem wiary, wiarą in statu scientiae. Podkreśla jej historyczność, która znajduje swoje uzasadnienie w wydarzeniu Wcielenia Syna Bożego. Dzięki Inkarnacji historia stała się nosicielem Bożych zamiarów i Bóg jest zawsze w niej obecny. Dostrzega wyraźną koekstensywność i koincydencję historii uniwersalnej i historii zbawienia (historia profana i historia sacra). Egzemplifikacją teologii „konkretnej i historycznej” jest refleksja Chenu nad znaczącymi wydarzeniami w biegu historii – znakami czasu. Są to wydarzenia historyczne, naznaczone pozytywnymi cechami, obejmujące różne dziedziny ludzkiego życia, które interpretowane w świetle wiary stanowią wyraz zbawczej obecności i woli Bożej.
The French dominican, medievalist and theologian Marie-Dominique Chenu’s (1895 – 1990) research work is among the most important in 20th century theology. His concept of “concrete and historical” theology is a response to the call for the renewal ofthe Church postulated by the Second Vatican Council. Chenu considers theology to be 'sui generis', in its essence providing the understanding of faith. He emphasises its historicity, justified by the Incarnation of the Son of God, owing to which history became the conveyor of God’s intentions and is continuously accompanied by Him. He perceives the apparent coextensiveness and coincidence of universal history and the history of salvation (historia profana and historia sacra). “Concrete and historical” theology is exemplified by Chenu’s reflexion on the significant events throughout the course of history – the signs of time. Theseare historical events marked with positive traits from the various areas of human life which when interpreted from the perspective of faith constitute the expression of God’s redemptive presence and His will. - Źródło:
