Opis:: The aim of the publication is to present new models of education appropriate to the twenty-first century and the needs of modern network society. The article presents a comprehensive substantiation for necessity changes in education, resulting from technological development, as well socio-cultural changes. The article characterizes selected models of education of the future: a new culture of learning, the school as a learning organization, so-called turquoise education, and education for wisdom and spirituality. It is emphasized that essential for the new models are new interpersonal relationships and basing on humanistic values rather than on new technologies.

Opis:: To cope with the challenges of the 21st century, a new Israeli educational reform, “Israel is moving up a grade” (known as Israel Ola Kita), was announced in 2014 by the former Minister of Education, Shai Piron, with the aim of assimilating the principles of meaningful learning in schools. A publication of the Ministry of Education, Something Good is Happening Now (2014) presented the policy and milestones for realizing the reform across the educational continuum.The current article highlights the complexities involved in the underlying reform principles concerning the change in the teacher’s role and argues the urgent need for considerations of these complexities through an expanded view of teachers’ professional development (TPD)with the aim of promoting deep-seated change rather than a superficial ‘signaling’ of the reform.

Opis:: The article includes considerations on different version of lifelong learning in contemporary culture. Four approaches are analysed. The first one is classical, connected mostly with adult education,. In the second, lifelong learning is incorporated in neoliberal vision of man and society and is treated as a way of permanent change of one’s knowledge and skills to be competitive in a job market. Third approach relates to the role of popular culture in shaping man’s identity by developing ability to accept and quickly forget enormous numer of stimulus from mass media and consumption area. The core of last approach includes the conviction that just man’s passions are the best and deepest drive for permanent personal growth.

Opis:: Globalisation and new media have completely changed the living environment of modern humanity. Technologies have entered almost all spheres of human existence. Education also could not (should not) remain unchanged. The presence of electronic media in the educational process forces a thinking pedagogue to ask questions, including the following: Who are the digital natives and the digital immigrants? Is the contemporary school on the verge of a chance that it has not had so far? Is this an opportunity to enrich and develop human cognitive function, using the available technical means, by deliberately influencing the course of a number of human life processes, including our development?
