Opis:
As a method of training neurofeedback has proved to be effective in education and therapy of children (e.g., with ADHD, autism spectrum or specific learning disorders). However, there are no neurofeedback training protocols targeting individuals with a mild intellectual disability. Therefore, I designed a neurofeedback procedure for children with this disability; it focuses on attention span training. In this study I presented the pre-planned procedure to the child’s parent to determine whether the proposed method is feasible for work with a child with a mild intellectual disability. After learning the parents’ opinion, I indicate the possible further stages of developing a neurofeedback strategy for working with children with a mild intellectual disability. Finally, I demonstrate the future directions of research and planning of neurofeedback procedures for individuals with special needs.

joy
Opis:
The aim of this study was to characterize the knowledge about the joy in children with mild intellectual disability. The premises relating to the mental functioning of these children suggest that this knowledge is poorer and less complex than the knowledge of their peers in the intellectual norm. The study used the authoring tool to measure children’s knowledge of emotions, including joy. The tool takes into account the cognitive representation of the basic emotions available in three codes: image, verbal, semantic and interconnection between the codes – perception, symbolization and conceptualization, which perform the functions of perception, expression and understanding. The study included children with the intellectual norm (N = 30) and children with mild intellectual disability (N = 30). The results mainly indicate the differences in how happiness is understood by particular groups, to the detriment of children with disability. The character of the results is largely determined by the level of organization of knowledge about joy and accompanying mental operations.

Opis:
Today, disturbingly often, it is possible to witnesses the effects of stigma and exclusion not only of the individual, but of whole groups of people, the result of reinforced, persistent stereotypes and prejudices about the subjects mentioned. They cause wrong social attitudes, expressed by the deprivation of the isolated persons of their rights to create and nurture relationships based on closeness and love, and often doom these people to a life of total seclusion. This article is an attempt to show the far-reaching consequences of depriving persons with intellectual disabilities and denying the right of self-expression. It is also a critical reflectionon the irregularities experienced by people, towards whom it is introduced, in terms of institutional isolation. At the same time, by presenting the results of personal research and conclusions, attention is being drawn to the fact that in our society there is an emerging hope for positive changes in the daily treatment of the socially isolated individuals. Yet, there is a constant need for a continuous reinforcement of the public awareness of the fact that the reintegration of these excluded individuals in the community benefits both the parties involvedTaking up the theme of stigma and social exclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities and convicts is considered important and relevant, as this is an issue which remains topical and gives rise to multiple moral dilemmas.

Opis:
Support for stage creativity and acting in theater therapy is to encourage participants, i.e. adults with intellectual disabilities, not so much to demonstrate theatrical skills and aesthetic sensitivity, but to discover something new in themselves, important for health and psychosocial well-being. In the therapeutic theater, building a spectacle involves overcoming personal limitations and challenging oneself. The potential benefit of this process may be gaining confidence, an important state in the area of social relations. The article aims to indicate the conditions for raising the level of self-confidence of adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in theater therapy and to indicate the consequences harmful for interpersonal relationships, while self-confidence is associated with more negative attitudes towards other people.

Opis:
Grading children is of great importance in the educational process. It allows children to learn about their abilities thus shaping their self-esteem and also to define themselves in relation to other people, points to resources and areas for work, builds motivation to undertake further activity, which is why it is particularly important for students with mild intellectual disabilities. However, the grading process is very complex and requires teachers’ knowledge and skills in this area. The aim of the research was to determine what dilemmas in grading students with mild intellectual disabilities teachers of mainstream schools have. The results obtained show that the grading this group of students gives teachers many difficulties and it is therefore necessary to make many changes in this area to make evaluation a factor supporting the effectiveness of education of children with mild intellectual disabilities, and thus a factor that optimizes their development.
