    Tourism is one of the fastest developing sectors of the economy and one of the sectors extremely vulnerable to climate change. As all tourism destinations rely on their unique natural or cultural values, any changes in climate and an increase in extreme climate events impact on the industry more than the other economic sectors. The article presents the relationship between climate change and tourism, focusing on the ethical dimension of sustainable tourism. The aim of the article is to present the moral questions on sustainability in tourism in the context of climate change. It focuses on environmental values and presents its role in the context of sustainable tourism development.

    Tourism has become one of the most popular leisure activities and the number of tourists has increased remarkably in recent years. UNWTO forecasts further development of this sector, predicting that the number of international arrivals will reach nearly 1.6 billion by the year 2020. Growth in the number of tourists poses a serious threat to the environment. The way to solve this problem is by introducing a more sustainable approach to this sector. The concept of sustainability was recently introduced into tourism and we can already notice many good practices. The article focuses on presenting the concept of sustainable tourism, its key objectives, and main characteristics, cases of its application, challenges connected with a more sustainable approach to tourism. Sustainable tourism is presented as the solution for environmental and social problems caused by intensified tourist activity.

    Iceland as an exceptional island, both in terms of natural and cultural values, creates perfect conditions for practicing various forms of tourism and recreation, focused on contact with nature. At present, tourism has become one of the the dominant branches of the country’s economy. The rapid development of tourism causes a proportional increase in impact on Iceland’s natural resources. In relation to the size of the island and its position [location] in the Arctic, even a small tourist traffic causes changes in the environment. The Icelandic authorities recognize the challenges they face in the context of the further development of the tourism industry and undertake activities aimed at the sustainable development of this area. The purpose of this article is to analyze the impact of Iceland’s tourist development on the natural values of the island in the light of the idea of sustainable development.
    Islandia jako wyspa wyjątkowa zarówno pod względem walorów przyrodniczych jak i kulturowych, stwarza doskonałe warunki do uprawiania różnych form turystyki i rekreacji nastawionych na kontakt z naturą. Obecnie turystyka stała się jedną z dominujących gałęzi gospodarki tego kraju. Gwałtowny rozwój turystyki powoduje proporcjonalny wzrost oddziaływania na zasoby naturalne Islandii. W odniesieniu do wielkości wyspy i jej położenia na obszarach arktycznych, nawet niewielki ruch turystyczny powoduje zmiany w środowisku naturalnym. Władze Islandii dostrzegają wyzwania, jakie stoją przed nimi w kontekście dalszego rozwoju branży turystycznej i podejmują działania mające na celu zrównoważony rozwój tego obszaru. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza wpływu rozwoju turystycznego Islandii na walory przyrodnicze wyspy w odniesieniu idei zrównoważonego rozwoju.

    The article presents: 1) the evolution of the concept of leisure; 2) the challenges facing contemporary civilization in terms of leisure; and 3) the concept of leisure, which promotes sustainable tourism. According to the author only concept of leisure, which takes into account all the potentiality of human being – with his biological, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs – guarantees effective practice of sustainable tourism. Upbringing and education play an important role in reaching such a concept of leisure.
    Artykuł prezentuje 1) ewolucję koncepcji odpoczynku; 2) wyzwania, jakie współczesna cywilizacja stawia wobec odpoczynku oraz 3) koncepcję odpoczynku, która wspiera zrównoważoną turystykę. Zdaniem autora tylko odpoczynek, który uwzględnia całą potencjalność człowieka wraz z jego potrzebami biologicznymi, emocjonalnymi i kulturowo- duchowymi gwarantuje skuteczne uprawianie turystyki zrównoważonej. Ważną rolę w dochodzeniu do takiej koncepcji odpoczynku odgrywa nauczanie i wychowanie.

    The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic is the reason why the development trends of the tourism industry are changing today. The purpose of this article is to address issues of future tourism industry development, linking it to elements of sustainable development trends. The article presents the main elements of the sustainable concept of rural and farm tourism. Using the method of compilation and description, we want to check, based on statistical data related to farm tourism activities in Slovenia (before and during the COVID-19 pandemic), whether it is possible to detect development trends in Slovenia, in the direction of sustainability that are linked to the concept of farm tourism. This study also aims to identify a number of measures that can improve sustainability at the farming tourism level in Slovenia, in a post-COVID phase. According to the findings of numerous comparisons and statistical analysis, it can be stated that the future development trends show a great need to develop the decarbonisation of the industry, digitalisation of industry, and the involvement of the local population in the provision of services. In the present global situation, we have reached a point where it will be necessary to focus on sustainable and digital forms of the industry, in order to further post-COVID development of the tourism industry.
    Wybuch pandemii COVID-19 spowodował, że zmieniają się trendy rozwojowe branży turystycznej. Celem tego artykułu jest zbadanie aktualnego rozwoju branży turystycznej i powiązanie go z elementami trendów zrównoważonego rozwoju. W artykule przedstawiono główne elementy koncepcji zrównoważonej turystyki wiejskiej i agroturystyki. Za pomocą metody zestawienia i opisu autorzy badają, na podstawie danych statystycznych dotyczących działalności agroturystycznej w Słowenii (przed i w trakcie pandemii COVID-19), czy możliwe jest stwierdzenie tendencji rozwojowych w zakresie zrównoważonego rozwoju w kontekście agroturystyki. Niniejsze badanie ma również na celu zidentyfikowanie szeregu czynników, które mogą poprawić zrównoważony rozwój turystyki rolniczej w Słowenii w okresie po COVID-19. Wyniki przytoczonych badań i ich analiza wskazują, że przyszłe trendy rozwojowe domagają się dekarbonizacji i cyfryzacji przemysłu oraz zaangażowania społeczności lokalnej w świadczenie usług. Aktualna globalna sytuacja gospodarcza wskazuje, że dotarliśmy do punktu, w którym dla rozwoju branży turystycznej konieczne jest wdrażanie zrównoważonych i cyfrowych modeli przemysłu.
