    Opis:
    In the article, the stance of genetic determinism, represented by Edward Wilson and Richard Dawkins on the grounds of sociobiology, has been presented and critically commented. The stance finds the gene to be the main actor on the stage of life, whom anything else in nature, including man – seen as a machine of replicators’ survival – is subjected. The criticism of the stance held by radical sociobiologists, undertaken by the author, results among other things from her conviction of inability to reduce the meaning of human existence to being subordinated to genes’ existence.

    Opis:
    The article is an attempt at presenting some aspects of the development of environmental ethics, i.e. the situation in which this discipline evolved, which is referred to as the ecological crisis. It presents the way in which this discipline was understood by its first representatives, their demands concerning both the ways in which it should be funded and its further theoretical development. At the same time, the process of penetration of Albert Schweitzer's ethics of the respect for life into the reflections of environmental ethicists is discussed. The author compares such ethics with the ethics of the most famous representative of this discipline in Poland, i.e. Henryk Skolimowski. The article also reveals some of the developmental trends of environmental ethics and lists its representatives. It also discusses the theses and assumptions of biocentric environmental ethics and draws attention to the prospects and the need for further development of this discipline.

    Opis:
    This article highlights and explains the major models of the relations between environmental ethics and traditional ethics. These models include: environmental ethics confronting models with traditional ethics, environmental ethics spacer model relative to traditional ethics, and models indicating the existence of correspondence disciplines. Present in thefirst phase of the development of environmental ethics, “distancing” in relation to traditional ethics contributed, as can be seen today, a peculiar relationship between traditional ethics and environmental ethics existed from the very beginning. In a sense, it can be said that, thanks to the development of traditional ethics, the development of environmental ethics was possible after some time. Environmental ethics can therefore see, inter alia, as a discipline biased against traditional ethics internally (e.g., as a form of ethics detailed, complementary circle of traditional ethics issues important ecological crisis issues).
