Opis:
The present paper is aimed at presenting selected psychological factors which may facilitate formation to the priesthood and those which may hinder seminary formation and the subsequent life of the priest. I separated two potential sources of hindrances: factors of a psychological nature and traits of personality. I proved that deficiencies in religious life and lack of support in the priestly com-munity are the reason of high anxiety and depressive states in clergy. As for per-sonality, I indicated emotional instability, introvertive tendencies, high selfreli-ance and autonomy, difficulties in accepting authority and inclination to dissimu-lation – as factors which hinder the fulfillment of vocation to the priesthood.

Every person is called by God, although there are different types of voca-tions (cf. 1 Cor 12:5). But not every person can properly discern one’s own vocation and respond positively to the voice of God who calls to the priesthood or the consecrated life. Scriptural texts speaking about the calling of individual persons are helpful, but first and foremost important is the atmosphere of the family home. Biblical texts speak of the families from which those called came from. The Church repeatedly teaches about the role and tasks of families in discerning and nurturing of vocations. There are also numerous statements made by people dedicated to the service of God, which testify to the irreplacea-ble role of their families in the discernment and maturation of their own voca-tion.

Opis:
The prophet himself, during his life underestimated by anyone, attained the unique exaltation in leaving God and later biblical history of salvation. He went to God in an extraordinary way (2 Kings 2: 1-2. 11-13) as a reward for absolute fidelity to God, vocation and mission that he was obliged to complete. Yes, absolutely, because even while experiencing a deep crisis, he persisted at God, spoke to him in prayer and asked for help. And when finally it proved not to be such as what he asked but the opposite, instead of death and blissful peace in the land of the dead he had to take a new superhuman action, however, it has finally been adopted and faithfully executed. That is why throughout the Old Testament tradition, he was expected at his second coming. It was believed that he would begin the Messianic times, coming back to the earth as he has gone to heaven – on a fiery chariot harnessed to fiery steeds. His coming was confirmed by Messiah Jesus of Nazareth during the descent from the Mount of Transfiguration when he explained to students that his mission was fulfilled in the person and activity of John the Baptist (Mt 17, 9-13).

Opis:
Consecrated persons are to point the way to God and to bear witness by their own life to the existence of eternal life. For that reason such persons can-not allow their interior life to lose its supernatural dimension. Yet this is the kind of loss which takes place when spiritual progress is turned into a psycho-logical quest. Such is the consequence of moving the formational process in religious life from virtues to feelings. It causes the candidate to religious life to develop a relativistic worldview, with the end result being the further protestantization of Catholicism as a move toward a horizontal faith based on feeling and subjective experience of the faith. Only a return to virtues in an evangelical life immersed in the Beatitudes can lead to the revitalization of religious life and the increase of its attractiveness. A return to virtues will equip the consecrated person with the tools needed to face all trials and tribulations.

Tomáš Špidlík
Opis:
One of the most important decisions in every personʼs life is the one regarding vocation. The choice of oneʼs own vocation is one of the basic human and religious issues. Who has found his vocation usually enjoys a happy life. Tomáš Cardinal Špidlík, whose anniversary of birth and death we commemorate (* 17 December 1919; † 16 April 2010), dedicated a separate book to this topic. In a form of dialogue, he offers his experience in discerning one’s personal vocation and in decrypting Godʼs will. He pays special attention to the spiritual vocation and questions related to it. In the following text, we will try to reflect on selected areas regarding the issue of existence and vocation choice in the context of Špidlíkʼs experience. The topic is very current because the priestly and spiritual vocations in Slovakia have been falling fast in recent years.

Opis:
For the development of priestly vocations significant impact have well organized and dynamically conducted pastoral activities. It was found in the research that almost half of the priests were interested in priesthood already in the years of primary school. The significant influence then had talks of young people with priests. The recognition of the calling was made through the participation of young people in religious groups, especially in the Oaza movement. Altar boys, as well as Holy Mass and adoration services have a beneficial effect on the roots and development of priestly vocations. In choosing a vocation, religious motives were predominant. The quality of moral life of the society and the personal authority of the priest are also important.

Pastores dabo vobis
Christus vivit
Opis:
The purpose of this article is to attempt to philosophically explain the issue of vocation based on the two post-synodal exhortations Pastores dabo vobis and Christus vivit. The issues of vocation are discussed on the basis of: concept, types, structure and discernment of vocation. From a philosophical point of view, vocation has the status of an interpersonal relationship. Its existence is made possible by two correlates, which are God and man. Vocation as a real relational being has ultimate reasons. The source, or causative cause of the Christian vocation, is God who initiates the vocation. God is also the ultimate intentional cause of the vocation. In order for a vocation to come into existence in the form of real being, an act of decision is needed. Thanks to it the vocation is constituted.
