Opis:
The aim of this paper is to discuss political circumstances related to joining the eurozone. The author claims that political conditions related to the euro area, associated primarily with the significant loss of sovereignty by EU member states, have not only symbolic and axiological dimensions, but also negatively affect the possibility to pursue an independent socio-economic policy, and therefore effective implementation of the constitutional commitments of the government towards its citizens.

Opis:
The article deals with the common currency as one of the biggest challenges currently facing the European Union. Arising from the financial crisis 2008–2009 and deepened by Brexit, they ought to be interpreted and analyzed as the most important impulse to further integration, especially within the sphere of fiscal policy on supranational level. The author claims that for those EU member states which do not participate in the monetary union it is the optimal moment for the decision to join and initiate the relevant procedures. Without any decisions so called multi- or two speed Europe is to be considered as a political fact. For Poland such a scenario creates costly and uncertain position which could inhibit its activities in the common Europe.

Opis:
The article explores the relationship between development of monetary integration within the European Union and the Optimum Currency Areas (OCA) theory, with particular attention given to lessons learned from eurozone crisis. The author begins with presenting the OCA theory, its evolution and role in the creation of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). Next, the financial crisis in eurozone is discussed in light of the OCA theory and EMU reforms, with particular focus on financial stability, fiscal policy and financial integration. The author argues that the crisis highlighted the importance of ensuring shock absorption mechanisms, as well as turned attention to financial integration and fiscal union criterion of the OCA.

Opis:
By joining the European Union (EU) on May 1, 2004, Poland was obliged to adopt the euro. However, no target date for this was specified. 15 years after accession the Polish membership in the EU is assessed positively from the financial point of view. Especially, positive appraisal is related to tremendous benefits obtained by Poland thanks to EU funds, regulations and standards. Despite these benefits, Poland is not taking decisive actions related to the adoption of the common currency. This can be explained by the complexity of the matter. This article aims at indicating and highlighting the problems associated with adoption of the euro by Poland. The author points to certain related dilemmas, as well as attempts to answer the question whether there are assumptions or instruments that could encourage Poland to prompt euro adoption. If so – what are they? If not – why and what can be done to make Poland take actions to join eurozone.

Opis:
The article explores the reaction of the European Central Bank (ECB) to two major economic crises that the EU had to face in the last two decades: the financial crisis which began in 2008 and the latest crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although causes underlying both crises were ultimately different, the response of the ECB was based on the same unconventional monetary policy tools. The author analyses the similarities and differences between both of these crises, as well as the ECB’s reaction to them, drawing attention to a shift in the ECB’s monetary policy towards unconventional tools and consequences of such a shift for the position and future policy directions of the ECB.

In order to evaluate the possible implementation and value of eurozone bonds, the author applies two methods. The first one is cost and benefits analysis (CBA), the second is simulations based on historical data on government debt sourced from Eurostat. Next, the author discusses solutions already implemented and prospects for changes.
