- The results of agrometeorological and soil moisture monitoring in the fi eld of sugar beet in the Kujawy region in 2005–2006 are shown in the paper. The examined growing seasons (IV–IX) were average in precipitation according to the SPI index. The moderate drought occurred in August–September 2005 and June–July 2006. The time distribution of precipitation and soil moisture in 2006 was more favourable than in 2005 for sugar beet growing. According to crop drought index CDI for sugar beet, the severe drought was in 2005 and severe bordered to moderate drought was in 2006. The measured in the fi eld and calculated according to CROPBALANCE model values of soil moisture in the root zone were agreeable. The meteorological and soil moisture data and mathematical modelling can be the important and useful elements in the system of agrometeorological monitoring and information in the Kujawy region. The indices of meteorological (SPI) and agricultural (CDI) drought can be the signifi cant complement of this system.
