Opis:
The Psychological Well-Being Scales (PWBS) is a questionnaire designed by Ryff (1989) to mea-sure six dimensions of eudaimonic well-being: self-acceptance, positive relations with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, purpose in life, and personal growth. Translated into several dozen languages, this questionnaire is a commonly used instrument for measuring well-being. The article presents the effects of work on the Polish adaptation of two versions of the PWBS: full (84-item) and short (18-item), conducted as a series of four studies with a total sample of 2,035 participants aged 13 to 78.The results confirmed the reliability of the full version of the PWBS and the six-factor structure of well-being. They also confirmed the criterion validity of the questionnaire, reflected in correlations with validation instruments.

Opis:
The objective of this study is to validate the Polish adaptation of the Short Form of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ-SF; Bohlmeijer, Klooster, Fledderus, Veehof, & Baer) – a 24-item inventory measuring mindfulness in daily life – in a Polish sample. The psychometric properties of the Polish version were assessed in a sample of 885 individuals: 710 meditation-naïve and 175 meditation-advanced ones. The following psychometric properties were examined: reliability (internal consistency, temporal stability, discriminant validity), internal validity (confirmatory factor analyses), and convergent validity (correlation between the five FFMQ facets and neuroticism, emotional stability, rumination, openness to experience, ego strength, extraversion, and reflection). The results confirmed the reliability (internal consistency, temporal stability, discriminant validity), internal validity (the orthogonal 5-factor model), and convergent validity of the Polish adaptation in a nonclinical meditation-naïve and meditation-advanced population aged 15-63. The FFMQ-SF proved to be an effective instrument for measuring mindfulness in nonclinical meditation-naïve and meditation-experienced Polish samples. Further replications in clinical samples are needed.

Opis:
Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS; Simons & Gaher, 2005) measures individual differences in experiencing and enduring negative emotional states. It consists of four dimensions: tolerance of perceived distress, assessment and acceptance of emotions, absorption of attention, and emotion regulation. The study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of a Polish adaptation of the Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS). A total of 1,210 individuals aged between 18 and 69 participated in the study (45% men, 51% women). After obtaining a Polish translation, we conducted EFA and CFA to examine the validity of the construct. EFA revealed a two-factor structure of the DTS, with Regulation as a separate factor. The original and modified CFA model with Regulation as a separate first-order factor showed an unsatisfactory fit to the data. Better CFA parameters were obtained with the reduced, three-factor version of the DTS. Four- and three-factor versions both show good internal consistency, temporal stability, convergent, and discriminant validity, with the exception of the Regulation subscale. As expected, distress tolerance is positively associated with positive affectivity, satisfaction with life, and self-control ability, but negatively with negative affectivity, perceived stress, and difficulties in emotion regulation. Men declared higher levels of distress tolerance than women. The Regulation subscale showed the weakest validity results; in terms of content, it seems to deviate from the concept of distress tolerance. With all those findings in mind, we recommend the valid and reliable three-factor version to be used in further studies.

Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire
Opis:
In this research study the Polish adaptation of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ; Baer, Smith, Hopkins, Krietemeyer, & Toney, 2006) was developed based on strong results of empirical research. A model of mindfulness was presented in which five factors (Acting With Attention, Nonreactivity, Nonjudging, Observing, and Describing) are cited as essential in facilitating health and well-being. In this study the English version of 39-item FFMQ was used to develop the Polish adaptation. The psychometric properties of the Polish FFMQ were assessed in a sample of 800 people (200 artistically gifted young people aged 15-19 years and 600 adults aged 20-50 years) through a validation procedure (reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and analysis of correlations with other tests measuring psychological variables such as neuroticism, emotional stability, rumination, openness to experience, extraversion, and reflection). The results confirmed the reliability of the test (Cronbach’s α = .73-.86), except in the case of the Nonreactivity scale (α = 0,65-0,66) as well as the validity (4-factor hierarchical model without the Observing scale) of the Polish FFMQ for nonclinical populations aged 15-50 years. Replications in meditating samples and in patients are needed.

Opis:
In this study, I investigated parenting concerns and worries in parents during cancer treatment and examined the psychometric properties of the Polish version of the Parenting Concerns Questionnaire. Reliability, as well as factorial and convergent validity, were analyzed. A total sample size of 145 parents during cancer treatment (parents of children aged 18 years or younger at the time of the survey) participated in the study. The study was an online survey method conducted between January 2019 and December 2021. Parents were sent a survey link and were requested to fill the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Parenting Stress Index (PSI-3-SF), the SF-36v2 Health Survey (SF-36v2), and the Family Resilience Assessment Scale (FRAS). The author received permission for using these questionnaires in online research. Confirmatory factor analysis of the Polish version of the Parenting Concerns Questionnaire did not confirm the original three-factor structure. However, the standardized factor loadings for the three factors were moderate to high. Additionally, apart from high-reliability estimates, this instrument proved to have good convergent and discriminant validity for all three factors. The PCQ-PL demonstrated adequate convergent validity with expected correlations with parenting stress, perceived stress, quality of life, and family resilience. The results suggest that the PCQ-PL is a reliable and relatively valid measurement tool to evaluate the level of parental concerns in Polish patients. The PCQ can be a useful tool to recognize parents with cancer who might need psychological support regarding combining the role of a parent and oncological patient.

Opis:
The present analyses focused on the adaptation of the Personality Beliefs Questionnaire (PBQ) – a tool measuring beliefs specific to personality disorders. Two Polish versions of the PBQ were developed: a translation of the original version consisting of 126 items, and a modified version comprised of 124 items (the scale for borderline personality was made diagnostically independent; the scale for schizotypal personality was added, and the items were assigned to the scales not only on the basis of their content but also on the basis of factor analysis results). For both versions, indicators of measurement reliability and validity were obtained based on results from more than 1,600 subjects. The data showed that the scales of both versions demonstrated acceptable reliability in terms of both internal consistency and temporal stability. The values of convergent validity of the scales in both versions were comparable (correlations with scales of the SCID-II questionnaire for Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II and TALEIA-400A: Test for AxiaL Evaluation and Interview for Clinical, Personnel, and Guidance Applications, assessing personality disorders), but scales of the modified PBQ version showed better discriminant validity (its internal structure also was very clearly confirmed by the results of confirmatory factor analysis). Insufficiently high convergent validity was found for both PBQ versions, including high intercorrelations among scales. Therefore, the discussion emphasized that although the PBQ allows for the identification of specific beliefs in personality disorders, it is not a diagnostic equivalent for tools assessing disorders per se.

Opis:
The Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ) measures the intensity of early maladaptive schemas connected with symptoms of mental disorders, particularly personality disorders. We conducted a procedure of shortening the Polish version of the YSQ, analogous to the original one, and determined the psychometric properties of the instrument thus developed by performing a reliability and validity analysis (n = 1.073). In the second part of the study we tested the factor structure of the YSQ using confirmatory factor analysis in the sample from Study 1 and an independent group (n = 898). We reduced the number of items in the questionnaire from 232 to 90 – leaving five items in each of the 18 scales corresponding to specific schemas. We obtained adequate and high internal consistency coefficients for each subscale and for the whole instrument. The overall measure of schemas was positively associated with beliefs characteristic for all personality disorders measured by the Personality Beliefs Questionnaire (PBQ). The intensity of the schemas (except the Self-Sacrifice scale) significantly differentiated participants from the clinical (n = 31) and nonclinical groups (n = 1,042). We also confirmed the theoretical factor structure of the instrument, although the weakness of some measures of fit suggests the need for further research. The obtained results support the use of the experimental short Polish version of the Young Schema Questionnaire as a measure of early maladaptive schemas.

Opis:
The most frequently used measures of personality consist of a large number of items. However, it is their short versions that have enjoyed popularity in recent years. This article is a presentation of the short form of Goldberg’s questionnaire for measuring the Big Five personality traits. The questionnaire measures five traits (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, Intellect), and consists of 20 items. It is a shortened version of the 50-item Big Five Markers questionnaire from the resources of the International Personality Item Pool, whose Polish version was prepared by Strus, Cieciuch, and Rowiński (2014b). In constructing the short version, we followed the procedure developed by Donnellan and colleagues (2006), aimed at maximizing the internal consistency and independence of scales. The research was carried out on a group of N = 903 people aged between 16 and 83 years. The validity (verified in confirmatory factor analysis and in the analysis of correlations between the questionnaire’s scales and other measures of the five personality traits) and reliability (measured by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient) are satisfactory and make the questionnaire fit for use in scientific research.

The aim of the paper was to characterize personality disorders in terms of the dimensions of the Circumplex of Personality Metatraits (CPM) developed by Strus, Cieciuch, and Rowiński. It was expected that personality disorders characterized by the profiles of traits from the five-factor model of personality (FFM) would be located in the sector delimited by poles Gamma- and Delta- and including pole Alfa-. The author analyzed data collected in a sample of 2,284 subjects tested by means of the NEO-FFI and three other instruments: the Personality Beliefs Questionnaire, the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II Disorders (SCID-II), and the TALEIA-400A questionnaire (Test for AxiaL Evaluation and Interview for Clinical, Personnel, and Guidance Applications) for the assessment of personality disorders as well as compared them with the data from the meta-analysis by Saulsman and Page (2004) concerning the relations between personality disorders and FFM traits. The obtained correlations confirmed the research expectations. In Discussion, the author points out the heuristic value of the CPM for differentiating the norm from pathologies, which includes the differential diagnosis of personality disorders.
