    W artykule podjęto sprawę sytuacji społeczno-emocjonalnej ludzi starszych spowodowaną pandemią COVID-19. Refleksji dokonano w świetle literatury przedmiotu oraz wyników prowadzonych badań własnych. Tekst składa się z dwu części. W pierwszej przedstawiono zarys kontekstu teoretycznego obejmujący kwestie kierunku zmian rozwojowych zachodzących w późnej dorosłości i refleksję nad zmianami spowodowanymi pandemią. W drugiej części odwołano się do pilotażowych danych empirycznych, prezentując metodę badań oraz ich wyniki wsparte komentarzami podsumowaniem.
    The article reflects on the socio-emotional situation of elderly people caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The reflection was made in the light of the literature on the subject and in the light of the results of the own research. The entire text consists of two parts. In the first one, an outline is given of the theoretical context covering the issues of the direction of development changes taking place in late adulthood and a reflection on the changes caused by the pandemic. The second part refers to the pilot empirical data, presents the research method and its results and summary.

    Opis:
    The aim of this paper is to provide a description of “examples of good practice” in the area of local forms of support for the elderly as represented by the Northwest Indiana Community Action (NWICA) in the United States. The content of the article includes the characteristics of NWICA and its place in the social support system in US. It also includes a detailed presentation of the kinds of support that are available to older people and their families through the agency of NWICA, such as access services, in-home services and community-based services, and their efficiency in creating conditions for “aging with dignity where in the place of residence.” Also the issue of the application of social support solutions developed in US to the Polish environment has been examined. The main outcome of the presented material is to provide direction for social policy that supports the role of the local community in supporting the elderly, and limits unnecessary institutionalization.

    Opis:
    Celem studium było zbadanie, w jaki sposób opiekunowie odpowiadają na duchowe potrzeby starszych sióstr w katolickich wspólnotach zakonnych. Wywiadem objęto czterech opiekunów – dwóch ze Stanów Zjednoczonych oraz dwóch zPolski. Skierowane do nich pytania koncentrowały się wokół sposobów tworzenia, organizowania, realizowania i rozszerzania planów opieki w odpowiedzi na duchowe potrzeby, pojawiające się w codziennej praktyce każdej z placówek. Badania przeprowadzone w USA i Polsce doprowadziły do uzyskania wspólnych wyników, odnoszących się do ustalonych nawyków członków wspólnot oraz intuicyjnej postawy opiekunów, którzy dostrzegali wartość holistycznego podejścia do opieki, polegając bardziej na spontaniczności i intuicji niż na planowaniu. Rezultaty badań dostarczają wstępnego wglądu w proces duchowej opieki – głównie poprzez określenie czynników, które wpływają na duchowe potrzeby podopiecznych oraz sposoby ich zaspokajania przez opiekunów. Niemniej jednak zalecana jest ocena przyjmowanych przez nich intuicyjnych strategii opieki w toku dalszych badań.
    The purpose of the study was to explore how caregivers respond to the spiritual needs of elderly women religious (Catholic Sisters). The research interviews involved four caregivers – two from the United States and two from Poland. The interview questions posed to caregivers focused on how plans of care were developed, organized, delivered and extended into responses to spiritual needs on a daily basis in the respective facilities. The research conducted both in the US and in Poland resulted in common findings related to the religious members' routines and an intuitive attitude of caregivers who valued a holistic approach to care, relying more on spontaneity and intuition than on designed planning. Spiritual needs were also framed by physical requirements and life history. Results provide the initial insight in the process of spiritual care – mainly by determining the conditions that influence spiritual needs and ways of fulfilling them by caregivers, but assessment of the intuitive strategies is recommended as research is extended.

    Opis:
    The article is regarding the mobilization of the elderly people taking place through activity of the University of the Third Age. An occurrence of the old age was described with her significant features including biological, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of the life of the man. The elderly gradually is backing out of performed roles in society, can feel loneliness, pushing the social life into the background and produced fears with expectation of the death. A fact that seniors have a great development potential was emphasized, need of active activity in different fields of the life and the tendency of developing many interests. A history of the formation of the University of the Third Age was presented as well as their mission, cells, functions and areas and forms of the influence on the elderly were characterised, as well as to the society. These institutions are motivating elderly people in the intellectual, emotional, public, cultural and artistic aspect, as well as enable to include into the course of events general-social. School curricula carried out and forms of the influence contain a lot of contents of the gerontological prevention. University for seniors are counteracting the social exclusion of this group as well as are activating to action and the improvement of the quality of their life.
