Opis:
When announcing the encyclical Deus Caritas Est on December 25, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI added momentum to the discussion of the essence and unique nature of the Church’s charity work. In the discussion of such work, among others, P.J. Cordes’ voice is not to be ignored, not only due to the high position he holds (President of the Papal Council “Cor Unum”) but also his influential publications on charity theology, especially his latest book entitled: Helfer fallen nicht vom Himmel. Caritas und Spiritualität (Eng. Those who give help do not descend from heaven. Caritas and spirituality). In Cardinal’s view, nowadays institutionalized charity work demands an insight into political, economic, sanitary, anthropological and administrative spheres as well as practical skills proved by appropriate certificates. All of this is important and necessary, yet insufficient from the perspective of the charity organizations of the Catholic Church. Only a shift from the legal paradigm to the one of faith will permit a deeper insight into human poverty. Therefore, professionalization of the forms and means should be accompanied by a greater concern for spiritual formation of people who are either professionally or voluntarily involved in the charity mission of the Church.

Opis:
Every Christian as a member of Christ’s Church is called to give real testimony about God who is love (1 J 4, 8. 16). This is because God established the Church so that it could be the proponent of the truth and the propagator of God’s love in the world. The testimony of Christian love requires more than a verbal declaration; it requires deeds (1 J 3, 18). The living faith and strong hope is the foundation of Christian testimony of love, and its important manifestation is the Christians’ social life. This is why the Church, from the beginning of its history, not only propagated the truth with the word, but also performed charity service among poor people and ones who needed aid. The Christian caritas and volunteering are an important form of Christian testimony, strengthening the credibility of God’s word preached in the Church. Both volunteers and all Christians need a constant Christian and charity formation.

The visually impaired person is created in the image of God, as is the person with normal vision. The impairment does not infringe on the dignity of the impaired. The impaired person is a fully-fledged subject, enjoying all the rights that relate to his/her belonging to the Church and society. The visually impaired are incorporated into the Church through Baptism. They undertake their Christian and personal vocation in the Church. The impairment makes the vocation of an impaired person unique. It is one of its kind and can me more difficult than that of a person with normal vision. The visually impaired are also called to participate in apostolic action – in the form they are fit for. Their apostolic activity mostly consists in giving the testimony of their Christian life, their acceptance of the suffering and devoting it to Christian causes, and in their prayer. The Church community offers them spiritual, psychological and material support.

Opis:
One of modern challenges facing not only politicians, economists or sociologists is the demographic makeup of Poland, which is a derivative of tendencies that are visible in the whole of Europe. Demographic changes are not leaving the Church unaffected. One has to take into account the decreasing number of children and the youth, who are the a major target of pastoral initiatives in Poland. The adult and elderly groups existing in the Church will grow, which will create a demand for new and adequate pastoral solutions for them. The pastoral care of families, elderly, lonely and sick will face special challenges. The article attempts to present the lines of development of activities conducted in the mentioned sectors of pastoral care which the Polish Church should pay attention to.

Opis:
One of the problems of the modern family are weak personal bonds between the spouses as well as between the parents and children. In Europe, and also in Poland, there are fewer and fewer multigenerational families; two-generational or even one-generational ones dominate. Moreover, taking into consideration the fact of low fertility in families the process of pro-social and volontaristic formation in the family appears as a challenge to the contemporary family. Success of the process of pro-social and volontaristic formation in the family depends on several factors, like: the full composition of the family, the family atmosphere, the number of children in the family, the mother’s career, the financial situation of the family and the family's religiousness. However, the most important condition for attaining success of the process is discovering, especially by the parents, God's plan, according to which the family is the least social unit and an irreplaceable community of love. Only a family trying to realize such a model of family life is able to bring up the kind of beautiful man who not only can „be with others”, but also „be for others”.

Reverend Professor Jan Wal in his research and didactic work has shown the directions of the revival of pastorate and the need of changes in thinking and in pastoral activities. Undoubtedly his research has contributed to a revival of the concept of pastoral theology in Poland. The main fields he worked on were making both the clergy and the laity more sensitive to the social dimension of pastorate and evangelization, the need of a dialog in the Church and in the Polish society, making charity theology more profound, and intensification of charity work.

Opis:
The subject of the present study are the pastoral exhortations contained in XL Homiliarum in Evangelia (“Homilies for Gospels”) by Pope Gregory the Great. 761 pastoral appeals have been studied. It has been found that the leading motif around which particular pastoral appeal focuses is the program of achieving Christian perfection realized by way of purification, enlightenment and unification with God. Pope Gregory the Great’s program of pastoral work is a program of achieving Christian perfection. It is characterized by integral formation. The priority of the program is spiritual-‑intellectual formation. Theo-centric, and not only Christo-centric direction of the program is very clear. In the whole program eschatological motifs play the leading and dominating role. The charity action is mainly directed to the needs and spiritual aid serving the salvation of the man. Saint Gregory’s program is characterized by the principle of moderation. In the light of the above reflections it can be said that St Gregory the Great’s program of pastoral work maintains timeless topicality in the Church.
