Opis:
During the first period of the its existence – beginning in 1879 – the museum was run by Władysław Łuszczkiewicz. At this time, the statute was established, decisions were made on the internal structure of the organization, the board was elected and  exhibitions were launched based on the constantly expanding collection. In the following text, the period between May 1900 (Łuszczkiewicz death) and July 1901 (taking board of the museum by Feliks Kopera) is presented. This period coincides with Teodor Nieczuja-Ziemięcki’s time as director and was of great importance for the history of the Museum. The crucial and complex changes that were part of the reorganization carried out at this time made possible the creation of the institution according to the highest contemporary standards. Among the most important are: expansion of the Museum by changing the Articles of Association, changing the prerogatives of the management of the Museum and the inclusion of Museum staff in a group of municipal officials.

Opis:
Julian Talko-Hryncewicz (1850–1936) was a Polish physician, anthropologist and ethnographer. At the beginning of the 1890s, he took the position of a district physician in Troitskosavsk in the Transbaikal region. During his stay there, in addition to his medical practice, Talko-Hryncewicz conducted anthropological research and excavations in Siberia. At that time, along with some educated inhabitants of Kyakhta, he founded the local Department of the Imperial Geographical Society. This article discusses a gift donated to him by members of the Troitskosavsko-Kyakhtinsky Department of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society in Saint Petersburg in recognition of his work for the local community. The gift consisted of a diploma (so-called “address”) in a decorative binding and a luxurious document folder inserted into an imposing case. It was handed to Talko-Hryncewicz on April 29, 1908. The reason for the gift was his departure for Kraków where he was to take the chair of anthropology at the Jagiellonian University. In 1932 the new owner then donated the gift be added to the collection of the National Museum in Kraków. It is currently stored in the Department of Decorative Art and Material Culture.

Opis:
In 1901, the association Polska Sztuka Stosowana (Polish Applied Arts) announced a contest for a bookplate to be featured at the National Museum in Kraków. It was the fi rst competition of this sort in the Polish lands, and the result was the fi rst artistic Polish bookplate created by a traditional technique. Its author was Jan Bukowski, then starting his career in typography and illustration. Marking books with a decorative label, usually pasted onto the front endpaper, was becoming fashionable among bibliophiles and was an expression of their taste, education and artistic culture. For the following twenty or so years, the contest became a model for many other similar competitions. This article analyzes the form and content of the bookplate in question, which for many years became the trademark and logo of the National Museum in Kraków. It was also the paragon of the Polish exlibris valuable not only for its artistic but also Polish national features. Lastly, it was an object of exchange between the museum and Polish and foreign institutions,on the one hand, and between collectors, on the other.
