Battle of Wagram 1809
Napoleonic wars - Opis:
- The article presents the results of archaeological rescue excavations conducted on the battlefield of Wagram. As a result of prospection with the use of metal detectors, more than 7000 objects connected with this event were found. During the excavations, more than 500 archaeological features were unearthed, including 25 graves related to the battle of the 5th and 6th July 1809, and the Habsburg army camp set up beforehand. The archaeological objects and features discovered provide new information about the camp life of soldiers in the Napoleonic era, the battle itself and about how bodies of the fallen soldiers were treated after the battle.
