- The purpose of the study was to determine the relationships between grandparents’ support, communication with peers, and resilience among adolescents with single mothers. Also, the role of gender in the above-mentioned phenomena was looked at. The study was conducted using the Berlin Social Support Scales (BSSS), the proprietary Scale of Communication of Adolescents with Peers (SKAR); Resilience Measurement Scale SPP-18, as well as a personal survey. The sample included 145 adolescent girls and 137 boys. The results showed that, when it comes to communication with their peers, the participants of the study did not significantly differ from each other. The boys were significantly more resilient, while the girls seeked and received their grandparents’ support significantly more often. In both groups, significantly positive relationships were observed between resilience, grandparents’ support, and openness in communication with peers. This result is in opposition to the relationships with difficult communication. In conclusion, the gender of adolescents plays an important role in using resources and in shaping relationships with peers.
