Czaja Justyna, Poeta narysowany – o puszkinowskiej trylogii Andrieja Chrżanowskiego [A Drawn Poet – about Andrei Khrzhanovsky’s A Pushkin Trilogy]. „Przestrzenie Teorii” 32. Poznań 2019, Adam Mickiewicz University Press, pp. 357–370. ISSN 1644-6763. DOI 10.14746/ pt.2019.32.19. The subject of the article is an animated film A Pushkin Trilogy directed by Andrei Khrzhanovsky, dedicated to Alexander Pushkin. It comprises the films: Ya k vam lechu vospominanem, I s vami snova ya and Osen. The article attempts to answer the question about the reasons for the director’s interest in this outstanding writer and his work. It also shows the evolution of the ‘Pushkin theme’ in Khrzhanovsky’s work, changes in the content and formalism, and artistic research that led to the creation of the original animated trilogy. The poetics of the work are analyzed, in which the director looks at the work of the Russian writer through the prism of his manuscripts and sketches, while at the same time expanding the formula of the biographical film.

Opis:
Victor Shklovsky’s Third Factory is the third part of the so-called “autobiographical trilogy”, which was first published in 1926, i.e. after Shklovsky’s return from abroad, following his unwilling emigration. As a literary work, it is not easily classified. In part, it is a memoir of the three “factories” that influenced Shklovki’s development both as a writer and a witness of his time. In addition to fictional and biographical elements, Third Factory also includes anecdotes about writers, literary critics and theorists (e.g. Roman Jakobson, Yuri Tynianov, Boris Eikhenbaum, and Y. Polivanov) as well as letters and memoirs, which are published here in a Polish translation for the first time.

Opis:
Observing the process of the birth of Man of Marble – Man of Iron – Wałęsa. Man of Hope trilogy we can clearly see the author’s increasing tendency to render movie fiction real, in the sense that fiction should be treated as reality, as its equivalent. In the two first films in the trilogy, what is visible is the intensified blurring of the lines between fiction and reality, substituting what is fact with something concocted. What we can also see here is a tendency to boost the credibility of a fictional story, thanks to the use of conventions and documentary materials. Gradual changes made in the sphere of art were connected with the director’s public activities, in which he gradually crossed the boundaries not only of social, but also political praxis. Moreover, in creating the trilogy we can see a voluntaristic trend to perceive the past as the history of “great men” and to canonize the glorious image of history. All these tendencies were expressed in the latter work. Wajda completed this as a clear response to political moves by certain politicians and historians attacking Wałęsa. Preparing a movie about him, he approached verification of historical data with a single-minded attitude. Thus in this film we can observe “true fabrications”. Wałęsa pervades the story, and there is no room for other important figures in the historical process. Additionally, in order to create an imagined, idealistic image of Wałęsa (“Wałęsa 2.0”), the actor playing this role “expels him” from the archive material.

Opis:
The article contains a synthetic overview of the trilogy The Age of Theory, edited by Danuta Ulicka. It is the first comprehensive study of the achievements of Polish theoretical literary studies since its birth in the 1920s. The edition includes a multi-author monograph, organized according to “cultural themes” (as understood by Opler), to which the author of the article devotes most of her attention, and an extensive selection of texts preceded by factual introductions (two volumes of anthology) representative of the problem blocks discussed in the first part. Without questioning the content of the anthology, and especially the cognitive value of the monograph, which is based on innovative methodological assumptions and proves that modern literary theory was born in Central and Eastern Europe, and Polish works played an important role in its development, the author wishes it included the work of W. Borowy, the pioneer of intertextuality or J. Baudouin de Courtenay’s texts, which foresaw heteroglosia and minus-device.

Opis:
This paper examines four discursive strategies: colonizing, animalizing, infantalizing and (plant) vegetative that characters in Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy use to name the Crakers, post-humans with modified DNA structure. In discussing them, I expose a dehumanizing effect this seemingly neutral processes of naming and describing have. The interpretative findings discussed in this paper constitute a response to largely anthropocentrically oriented extensive criticism on Atwood’s writing. By questioning the neutrality of the narrative through a postcolonial reading of the trilogy, I argue that MaddAddam challenges the divisions between human and non-human. The paper investigates whether these dehumanizing discursive tactics of animalization, colonization, infantilism or vegetation, which are fundamentally oppressive, can become a means of resistance.

This is a transcript of a conversation with Andrzej Stoff, for whom Roman Witold Ingarden’s philosophical thought on art and literature is a source of inspiration for his research. The interview presents a few issues representative of the analyses of the Toruń-based scholar, arising from Ingarden’s theory of literary work, which for the interlocutor turns out to be an “open” theory, also encouraging today’s literary scholars and literary theorists to continue and deepen the assumptions adopted by Stoff when considering the problems of the ontology and axiology of a literary work.
