    Opis:
    Papuk Geopark is located in eastern Croatia,in the Slavonia region,and was established in 2007 in a mountain range of the same name. It covers 524 km2 of geologically diverse terrain, with geological formations ranging in age from Precambrian to Quaternary and representing metamorphic, igneous and sedimentary rocks.The geopark,which is the old est geological nature reserve in Croatia, host an outcrop of columnar jointing in rhyolite at Rupnica. In terms of geomorphology, Papuk is a fluvially dissected young horst, with widespread karst phenomena on Triassic limestones. Cultural heritage includes ruins of medieval fortresses, ancient abbeys, and country-famous wine culture around the town of Kutjevo. The educational offer consists of 69 designated geosites, several educational trails, open-air rock exhibitions, and guided walks and classes for schools.

    Opis:
    The pits that left after exploitation of solid rock minerals are extremely interesting geological objects. They contain records of ancient processes that led to the exposure of rock formations, allowing the timing of these processes. The data obtained from abandoned quarries can be used for scientific studies, but it can also be applied in all activities aimed at popularizing knowledge about a biotic nature. Therefore, these localities should be under legal protection or at least secured against devastation, which often faces considerable difficulties. The Geological Museum has undertaken actions aiming at the protection of abandoned quarries, most often in the form of projects dedicated to geotourism management and creating geotourist trails. These projects are a chance to save important geosites from devastation, overgrowing by vegetation, or fading into oblivion. The article presents case studies of successfully managed old quarries, as well as failed attempts.

    Opis:
    This paper provides an assessment of geotourism potential of the loess relief of the projected Kamienna Valley Geopark, by selecting the most interesting, scientifically and didactically, gulley regions, comprising natural and cultural heritage related to the occurrence of loess cover. The possibility of using geotourism potential of the loess relief by delineating geotourist routes is evaluated. The main barriers limiting tourism development within the geopark is the low awareness of the loess geoheritage among local administrative units and tourist guides, afforestation, poor access to public transport, and lack of tourist infrastructure in the loess gullies. In summary, the paper points out to the benefits that could be achieved after including the loess areas into the project during the establishment of the Kamienna Valley Geopark.

    Opis:
    The geosite Zygmuntówka (Sigismund ) quarry, located at Czerwona Góra near Chęciny in SW part of the Holy Cross Mountains, is the oldest and the most famous among the so-called Chęciny „marble” quarries which provided stones for constructing numerous important buildings in the region and beyond. Upper Permian conglomerates (Czerwona Góra Formation), with a thickness of several tens of metres, outcrop in this area. The conglomerates are clast- and locally mud-supported and consist of light grey and beige carbonate pebbles and cobbles chaotically distributed within the reddish-brown silty-carbonate-ferriferous matrix. The conglomerates represent continental alluvial fan deposits deposited under arid and semiarid climate conditions. The quarry, of a regional rank, is well suited for both geoeducation and geotourism purposes.
