Opis:
Porphyry deposits host the most of world’s indicated Cu and Mo resources and are major sources of critical metals including Au, Ag, PGE, W and Re. The Sierra Gorda Paleocene-Eocene Cu-Mo deposit, located on the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile, can be identified as porphyry-type in terms of contained metals (Cu grade less than 0.5%, Mo grade up to 0.02%), mineralization (disseminated or stockwerk vein-hosted hypogene sulphides), structural controls (stockwerks and hydrothermal breccia bodies), and genetic relation to an intermediate calc-alkaline intrusion (monzodiorite intrusion in volcanic country rocks). Three main centres of mineralization are associated with the intrusive body and genetically connected with spatially evolved hydrothermal alteration. With target annual production of 220 k tones of Cu and 55 k tones of Mo, Sierra Gorda is the largest open-pit project of the major Polish metal mining company KGHM Polska Miedź.

Opis:
The characteristic of ore mineralization in the immediate vicinity of fault zones in the Lower Zechstein deposits is shown. All presented outcomes are on the basis of rock material taken from mining profiles in the Radwanice-Gaworzyce deposit area. During conducted studies ore minerals and oxide minerals were identified under optical microscope in reflected light and photographic documentation of the examined samples was undertaken. In addition, microprobe examination was carried out for selected samples from the studied profiles along with calculations of the chemical composition of individual ore minerals. In all analyzed profiles, Rote Fäule oxidized zone (enriched with hematite) was found, which occurs at various levels of the Kupferschiefer series and the reduced zone (enriched with ore minerals) over the oxidized series. The redox front cuts across the boundaries oflithostratigraphic units, moving from the Weis- liegend to the higher parts of the Zechstein Limestone. The primary ore mineralization in the examined profiles is the chalcocite-digenite association with subordinate bornite and covelitte recorded in the reduced series. Furthermore, the secondary sulphide mineralization in the direct vicinity of tectonic deformation and faults superimposed on primary ore mineralization and hematite enrichments is observed and it is represented by chalcopyrite, bornite, tennantite, tetrahedrite and pyrite, both within reduced and oxidized zones.

Opis:
Since 1989, KGHM Polish Copper SA has become increasingly open to the world market for raw materials. In 1992, the Asacro Company from the US is trying to take over the KGHM PM SA. This is prevented by a strike of miners and steelworkers of this company, lasting 32 days. Since then, no attempts have been made to take over the company. Foreign investors are effectively deterred by one of the world’s highest production costs of copper – 1.82 USD/lb Cu. The cost of production of one ton of Cu had been 5227 USD by 2015. One of the reasons is an inefficient mode of mining. The start of mining from the uppermost part of the deposit means that some parts of the deposit cannot be, because it creates a threat to the sections operatingat lower levels. Similarly, mining works conducting from the wells to the boundaries of the deposit causesthe necessity to move to new areas of exploitation across already exploited parts of the deposit. It is proposed to eliminate these difficulties by directing the mining extraction process using an electronic control system that allows obtaining immediately the desired changes. The example of the Robert Friedman’s school of prospecting for new copper ore deposits, it is recommended to restoret he Polish school of prospecting for deposits, this time on a global scale for the needs of the KGHM Polish Copper SA and the Polish mining industry.
