Opis:
The article presents a critical opinion about the recognition of hydrogeological conditions described in the geological report on the Oczkowice lignite deposit. It is shown that the report does not include sufficient recognition of hydrogeological conditions as well as chemical analyses of groundwater in the Paleogene-Neogene aquifers, where an upward flow of high salinity groundwater from the Mesozoic basement was found. Moreover, the occurrence of sulphides in the Miocene sediments has not been proven, and it can significantly influence the water quality in the pit. There are also numerous errors and unacceptable simplifications in the numerical hydrogeological model which is an integral part of the report. It is assessed that the recognition of hydrogeological conditions included in the report cannot be treated as a basis for a proper development of neither a report on deposit dewatering nor an Environmental Impact Assessment report.

The paper presents the results ofmeasurements of groundwater and surface water temperature in the area of the Krajkowo water intake. The influence of extreme natural phenomena on Warta River in Krajkowo on the conditions of exploitation of the shore barrier and the radius well are shown. Changes in the velocity of water flow from the Warta River to the well of the shore barrier has been noticed. Such results shown an important role of protective monitoring of a water capture.

Opis:
The "Oczkowice” brown coal deposit composed of Neogene sediments was documented between 2011-2014 in SouthWest of Wielkopolska region. The lignite deposit, located between Miejska Górka and Krobia communities, occur 110-140 m below the surface. The designed open-pit mining requires the Quaternary and the Neogene-Paleogene aquifers to be drained and depleted up to the depth of 115-165 m for at least 50 years. The article is based on a hydrogeological expert report (Dąbrowski et al., 2015) and presents both analytical and model calculations as well as potential risks to the environment and water management of south-western Wielkopolska region. According to the expert estimation, the initial output resulting from draining of sector I would reach 4930 m3/h (81.7 m3/min). Thereafter, it would be reduced to 3520 m3/h (58.7 m3/min) at the end of sector I mining. The radius of depression cone of the Quaternary structures would be up to 3-10 km far away from the open-pit but it would be widespread by ca. 20-25 km in the Neogene-Paleogene basins. According to the calculations the groundwater losses caused by the "Oczkowice” open-pit draining would attain 59% resources of the Quaternary structures and 92% of the Neogene-Paleogene basins in the Gostyński district and 45% and 62%, respectively, in the Rawicki district. Reducing the piezometric pressure of the Neogene-Paleogene basins would result in increasing the chloride water ascension of the underlying basement and consequently its discharge to rivers.

Opis:
The paper presents an increasing problem of uncontrolled groundwater extraction of the Jurassic-Cretaceous aquifer near Kalisz. Groundwater abstraction for irrigation purpose leads to a significant decrease in groundwater pressure in the northern reaches of the Kalisz district. Spatial and temporal analyses of the depression cone development made the author searchingfor a reason that would cause an ongoing decrease in the groundwater level of agriculturally utilized areas. Due to a significant range ofJurassic- Cretaceous piezometric pressure fluctuations, a transient model has been constructed to achieve this task. The model analysis indicates that the groundwater extraction of 1240 m3/h, required to make the piezometric field distribution compatible to field measurements, is to be 30% higher than recorded. Water abstraction may rise up to 1790 m3/h in the growing season and contribute to a progressive development of a regional depression crater as a consequence. Following the over-exploitation, the piezometric pressure of the Jurassic-Cretaceous basin has already been lowered by over 20.0 m in depth in the Blizanów community.

Opis:
Short history of mathematical modeling of groundwater flow and transport in Poland is described. It shows brilliant and long tradition of this advanced aspect of hydrogeology. Mathematical modeling has been extensively used in Poland for years in solving practical problems concerning mainly groundwater abstraction, protection of groundwater resources and, recently, as a routine tool for environmental impact assessment whenever groundwater is involved. Use of numerical models in documenting groundwater resources and conditions of their restoration within regional water balance units are recalled. In particular - documenting admissible volumes of groundwater to be abstracted including wells operating in river valleys, determining protection zones for water supply wells and groundwater reservoirs, in particular for major groundwater basins (in Polish: GZWP), investigating optimal ways of abstracting fresh groundwater in areas where mineral waters occur, investigating alternative groundwater sources for supplying large agglomerations. Three examples: defining changes in groundwater chemical composition in conditions of intensive anthropogenic stress on the environment - impact from urban and industrial waste landfills, agriculture, transportation and municipal facilities on groundwater; coexistence of fresh and mineral waters and, finally, quantitative assessments of impacts from open-pit mines on groundwater in the mining stricken area are described in more detail. Last paragraph of the paper is a future looking assessment of aspects of mathematical modeling in Polish hydrogeology that need to be further developed. The aspects concern scientific issues like: scale problem, inverse problems and chemical reactions in subsoil. Also a need of developing specialized software, setting hardware infrastructure and training staff are addressed as the necessary conditions for keeping pace with world's hydrogeology.

Opis:
Poland is endowed with the wealth of mineral resources, especially resources of coal and lignite, metal ores and mineral rawmaterials for chemical industry. Exploitation of these resources as a rule leads to inflow of water to mine workings and thus to various technical problems which have to be solved. Such problems arise at all the stages of management of mineral deposits, from reconnaissance and prospecting and exploration to preparing of a deposit for exploitation and exploitation and closing of mines. The water can have significant negative influence on prospecting and exploration and preparation of deposits to exploitation and creates a risk for mining operations and miners.Water inflow also results in environmental changes and increases extraction costs. The arising problems are technical and economic in character and the key for their solution is hydrogeology or, more precisely speaking, one of its more specialized branches - that is mining hydrogeology. The aim of this paper is to show the role and significance of hydrogeological works in management of mineral resources. A special attention is paid to the major achievements of Polish hydrology, which contributed to the developments in mining in our country and the world. Moreover, significance of contribution of hydrogeology at all the stages of mineral resources management, from reconnaissance and prospecting to exploitation of mineral deposits and closing of mines, is discussed. The presentation is of the review type and comprises examples of contributions of hydrogeology to exploration and documentation of individual mineral deposits, including assessments of mine water inflow and risks, environmental impact of mining operations and water management issues. It is worth to note that achievements of the mining hydrogeology from the last twenty years were mainly connected with working out methods for forecasting and assessments of environmental impact of closing the mines. In short, it may be stated that the actual contribution of Polish hydrogeology to the developments of mining sector is well shown by the presented examples concerning practically all the major mineral resources and the whole process of their management.
