Opis:
The rock salts occur in Poland (Central Europe) in two salt bearing formations of the Upper Permian (Zechstein) and the Neogene (Middle Miocene) and the potash salts - in the Upper Permian only. The total resources of rock salts are estimated at over 84 x 109 Mg. The share of Permian salts is here predominating as resources related to 4 thick rock salt complexes with extent comprising almost two thirds of the area of Poland are estimated at over 80 x 109 Mg in 15 documented salt deposits both of stratiform and diapir types. These deposits are currently exploited in 2 underground salt mines and 2 solution mines and annual output totalled about 3.1 x 106 Mg in 2007(mainly from the diapirs). The most perspective future use of these rock salt deposits is construction of safe underground cavern storages for oil and gas(now 2 such ones already exist) and depositories. The Neogene deposits (stratiform and stratiform-folded), exploited in the past millennium, occur in a limited area in southern Poland and are now only of historical-touristic value. The potash salts, quite frequent in the Permian evaporite complexes, are documented in one salt diapir in central Poland where they are mainly represented by carnallite and kieserite with resources > 72 x 106 Mg and are occasinally exploitated on limited scale. They are also documented in sulphate horizons accompanying the rock salt seam in northern Poland (4 deposits of polyhalite with resources of ca. 0.67 x 109Mg). However, low market prices of potash products offered by the neighbouring countries e.g. Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, make exploitation of these domestic potash salt resources uneconomic.

Opis:
Themap sheets at scale 1 : 200 000 illustrate the areas of prospective occurrences of natural chemical raw materials (rock and potash salts and native sulphur) in Poland. Fourteen prospective regions and 64 areas of Upper Permian rock salt with predicted (both prospective and prognostic ones) resources of ca. 4.052·1012 Mg and the total area of ca 31.6·103 km2 have been contoured on 57 map sheets. Prospective occurrences of the Miocene rock salt are defined in four areas located on four map sheets and their predicted resources are calculated for 6.9·109 Mg and the total area for ca. 137 km2. Twelve prospective areas of Upper Permian potash salts, contoured on eight map sheets, have the total predicted resources of ca. 3638.1·106 Mg and the total area of ca. 465 km2. Eleven prospective areas are defined for native sulphur concentrations within the Miocene deposits of the Carpathian Foredeep (five map sheets, southern Poland). Their prospective (both prognostic and hypothetic ones) resources are estimated for ca. 390·106 Mg and the total area for ca. 73 km2. The maps have been supplemented with the individual reports on each prospective region and area, including all geographical and geological data on the described raw material occurrence, as well as with suggestions on their possible management.

Stratotypes are indispensable to the correct usage of litho- and chronostratigraphy units. Stratotypes sustainability is the crucial factor. As the sustainability of the Chodenice Beds stratotype became in risk the searching for the substitution site of this type section had been undertaken. Micropaleontological and petrological hallmarks of the unit have been considered and perfectly analogical deposits have been found near by – in the Bochnia Salt Mine. Two of the mine corridors where Chodenice Beds crop out have been selected. The sites are protected as elements of the geocoservation net of the Bochnia Salt Mine, nominated as geological site no. 4 and 21.

Opis:
As part of the tasks performed by the Polish Geological Survey (Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute), 260 prospective maps (MOP) at a scale of 1 : 200,000 have been developed in the period of 2013-2015. These maps were designed for metal ores (Cu-Ag, Zn-Pb, Mo-W, Ni, Sn, Au, Pt, Pd and Zn oxide ore - galmans) and chemical raw materials (rock and potash salts, gypsum, anhydrite and native sulphur), in relation to the assessment of raw materials resources and environmental restrictions and land use planning. The total surface of prospective teritories projected onto the surface area is ~15.25 thousand km2 for metal ores and ca. 52.5 thousand km2 for chemical raw materials. The estimated resources of predicted ore deposits (prognostic and prospective) are approx. 42.2 million Mg of Cu and 75 thousands Mg of Ag (12 prospective areas), ca. 20 million Mg of Zn-Pb ores (in 4 prospective areas), 32 million Mg of Ni ores of weathering type (10 prospective areas), from 9.4 to 21.5 Mg of Au encountered by orogenic vein and metasomatic deposits (7 prospective areas), and ca. 22 million Mg of Sn ores. The estimated prognostic and prospective resources of chemical raw materials (at a depth of not more than 2000 m) are: ca. 4.059 trillion Mg of rock salt (68 prospective areas) and ca. 3638.1 million Mg of potash (12 prospective areas), as well as ca. 575.6 billion Mg of gypsum and anhydrite, and 202 million Mg of native sulphur (prognostic resources). In the assessment of environmental conflicts and land use planning, 125 information data sheets developed environmental conditions for prospective areas (with the exception of rock salts, which are discussed in the regional aspect). Development of the designated prospective areas may be important in the future to ensure the availability of raw material safety, not only for Poland, but also for the European Union, thus contributing positively to economic growth and prosperity of local communities.

Opis:
In recent years, symptoms of water hazards associated with mine closure were escalated. The presence of the water hazard can be related even to underground mine submersible dewatering systems in the areas of closed mines. This is connected with a loss of control of the majority of the mine workings in the areas of liquidated mines, where processes significantly changing the hydrogeological and geomechanical conditions are occurred. To avoid the worsen of the state of water hazards in coal mines it is necessary to: improve the existing procedures and law regulations relating to assessment, monitoring and control of water hazards and highlight this issue in hydrogeological documentations, as well as improve the quality of hydrogeological documenting and change the procedure of making opinion and approving of documentations.

Opis:
After novelization of a new geological and mining law in 1994, a lot of changes in the functioning of the hard coal mining – associated with the multifold mining industry restructure – have occurred. These activities resulted in the liquidation of almost half of Polish coal mines, ore and other mineral mines, as well as in the significant changes in the hydrogeological conditions in the areas of influence of mining activities. In each case, together with the organizational transformation it was necessary to create the hydrogeological documentations or supplement to these documentations in accordance with the currently applicable regulations and procedures. Against the background of the experience from this period, it was found that some of the solutions improve the condition and quality of documenting, and influence on the improvement of mine, public and environmental safety, while some others worsen them. It is believed that it is possible to improve this state of affairs by making changes in the law regulations and procedure of hydrogeological documenting, evaluation and approval of documentation. In order to achieve it, it is necessary to make changes in the procedure for evaluation of documentation, and determine requirements for institutions, government and people with entitlements of expert within the group XVII of issues related to water hazards, as well as in the relation to the content of the text part of the hydrogeological documentation.

Opis:
The paper characterizes selected methods of studying the sources of water hazard and solid rocks properties useful in the assessment of hydrogeological conditions of hard coal mines. Particular attention was paid to the measurement method of rock permeability using the unique PDPK-400 equipment in the assessment of filtration conditions and conditions of water flow in post-exploitation goafs and trough safety pillars. The possibilities of using an oedometer in the evaluation of permeability of post-exploitation goafs have been indicated. The usefulness ofsome investigation methods of the rock environment as sources of input data for numerical modelling of filtration have also been shown.
