Opis:
Salt mining at the Wieliczka mine that had lasted over a period of 700 years came to a stop on 30 June 1996. Currently the mine represents an object of culture, a museum, and also a balneotherapeutic facility. It is the place of birth of the so called subterraneotherapy, i.e., an innovative method of curing that utilizes a specific microclimate in underground chambers of inoperative salt workings. The method was finally developed by Professor Mieczysław Skulimowski, who revived the efforts of a 19th century mine physician Feliks Boczkowski. The salt mine has currently obtained a spa status, and its mineral waters (brines) from the outflows No’s W-VII-16 and W-VI-32 have been recognized as therapeutic ones. The most commonly treated are the patients with non-infectious problems of upper and lower respiratory tracts. Since November 2014 the Spa of the Wieliczka Salt Mine has also a graduation tower in the Kinga Park. In these tower is used the brine from the flow-VII-16 with a depth of 250 m. It is water Cl-Na type and 68.9 g/dm3 mineralization. The yield of salt water from this flow is 9 m3/h.

Opis:
The occurrence of mineral waters and related spas constitutes the leading theme of the projected geopark: Flysch Carpathians and their mineral waters. The geopark is located on the Beskid Sądecki and Beskid Niski area on the Polish side. It is situate in the area of the occurrence of three Carpathian units: Magura Nappe (the major part of the area), which includes Krynica, Bystrica, Racza and Siary tectonic-facies zones; Silesian Nappe and Grybów Unit. Besides mineral waters, the geodiversity of the area is defined by well exposed flysch rocks profiles including clastic type localities of the Magura Nappe described in the XIX century pioneers of geological investigations. The landslide morphology, attractive geomorphological forms like waterfalls, diversified river valleys, tors as well as places connected with history and tradition of exploration and exploitation of Carpathian hydrocarbons fields. The type localities of profiles of Grybów, Siary and Krynica Units as well as Łabowa Variegated Shales, Beloveza and Malcov formations. All these elements represent geotouristical attractions with high potential. They will be included in the network of preserved geosites within the projected geopark. The analysis of proposed geopark Flysch Carpathians and their mineral waters indicates high degree of diversification of natural values, especially geodiversity as well as richness of historical-cultural heritage. The preservation and protection methods are also diversified. This region represents unique geoenvironmental and historical values on the European scale, therefore providing good chances for establishment of geopark. The proposition of geopark with mineral waters and related spas in the Flysch Carpathians is first such project in the world. The documentation of geosites was already gathered during this stage of work, it requires only actualization, minor additions and construction of unified database. The evaluation of the actual touristic infrastructure provided also generally positive results, only the eastern part of geopark requires additional investments and promotion.

Opis:
It is commonly known that in the Upper Silesia the coal deposits exist. However, in that region also other mineral deposits such as therapeutic water are exploited. Such situation while two different deposits are exploited might lead to some problems. The Goczałkowice-Zdrój spa is the one amongst two spas in the Upper Silesia. There are three boreholes which exploits therapeutic water in Goczałkowice-Zdrój. The brine, which is exploited there, contains high concentration of iodine and ferrous ions. However the mineralization of water has decreased since the boreholes were drilled. The hydrogeological system of mineral water is very vulnerable for any changes. That is the reason why it should be well protected, especially while exploited water is used for therapeutic aims.

Opis:
Time series of investigations of selected mineral waters in the Piwniczna Spa prove the occurrence of progressive negative changes indicated by results of tritium concentration and chemical composition measurements. In some boreholes a systematic decrease of mineralization in time is observed – sometime taking the form of a drastic disappearance. According to available data this is caused by the opening of new migration paths for gaseous geogenic CO2 and, increased inflow of modern (tritium containing) waters to several wells. The latter possibility is especially visible in a case of P-5 and P-6 boreholes. Based on analytical results the necessity of regular observations of selected boreholes is postulated.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present selected geological and mining information concerning the area of the Sudetes Mts. and their foreland, which was published in the 19th century publications. The visitors were interested not only in natural outcrops and geological formations, but also in industrial facilities, such as quarries, mines, adits that were the part of the Sudetes landscape, thus increasing its attractiveness for tourists. Thanks to scientists, but also travellers and health resort visitors, such information was frequently published in periodicals (dailies, weeklies, annuals, etc.), or in the form of diaries, letters, textbooks, guides or brochures. The most important magazines included: Kroniki Wiadomości Krajowych i Zagranicznych, Kłosy, Wieniec, Pamiętnik Warszawski, Roczniki Gospodarstwa Krajowego. The manuscripts by S. Poniatowski and B.Z. Stęczyński as well as compact publications, including those by R. Saulson, Z. Urbanowska, A. Ostrowicz, I. Czartoryska, J.U. Niemcewicz were also published. This article presents the descriptive method and the method of historical analysis.

Opis:
In Dobrowoda village which is situated within the central area of the Polish Carpathian Foredeep, saline sulphur water has been found in a deep depression filled with Badenian sands. Environmental tracer data indicate similar interglacial age as that of shallow mineral waters occuring in Cretaceous marls in the nearby Busko Spa. Primary sulphates and secondary sulphides in all mineral waters of this region originated mainly from the dissolution of Badenian gypsum strata whereas the salinity is supposed to be the remnant of chloride salts of the same age which were completely washed out by meteoric waters during the long infiltration period after the regression of the Miocene sea. The hypothetical recharge area(s) are to the west of the study area, which means that chemical Badenian sediments occupied much larger area than the present extent of the sulphate series.
