Opis:
In case of groundwater intakes with a low well discharge, localized in simple hydrogeological conditions, the wellhead protection area (WHPA) can be delineated by one of available analytical methods. The differences between the WHPA ranges delineated by analytical methods, give rise to the question which method would be optimal to be used to handle simple hydrogeological conditions. Analytical methods considered in the study include the Wyssling method, the Krijgsman and Lobo-Ferreira (K&L-F) method, and the Analytical Element Method (AEM). WHPA delineated using analytical methods are compared with data obtained from hydrogeological numerical model, which becomes the reference method. The study was performed for two single wells, and a simplified case was considered too, whereby two wells were represented by an equivalent one. The criterion used in the assessment is the distance upstream from the well to the zone boundary (Lu ), for various time-of-travel to the intake (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years), and the shape and lateral extent of the WHPA. Discrepancies between the analytical methods vary depending on the time-of-travel, reaching 11% at most. Discrepancies between the analytical methods and numerical modelling results for single wells vary depending on the time-of-travel and the employed analytical approach, reaching 25% at most. For time-of-travel longer than 5 years, the maximal distances Lu calculated by the analytical methods are found to be smaller than those obtained by the reference method. The study indicate that results obtained by compared analytical methods are rather similar each other, but not similar to numerical modelling data. For scenario with the equivalent well there is major discrepancy between the reference values and analytical data.

Opis:
The paper presents a methodology for estimating reserves of available groundwater resources for use, inter alia, for the purpose of fracturing unconventional gas reservoirs. The assessment is based on the balance ofgroundwater available resources and water abstraction with the amount allowed by water intakes permits. The balance included a variant of the assessment of reserves of groundwater available resources under conditions of several years of drought, i.e. guaranteed resources. Estimation of reserves of groundwater resources was applied to water-management regions and to smaller units - the balance catchments, designated in the regions in order to determine the available surface water resources. The reserve of groundwater resourcesfor established and guaranteed resources was estimatedfor the selected water-management region - the Wietcisa river catchment. This catchment is part of the Stara Kiszewa concession for the exploration and exploitation of shale gas resources in the Lower Paleozoic Baltic Basin, northern Poland.

Opis:
Baltic-type raised bog (dome-shaped) is a type of peatbog with predominant atmospheric water supply and a convex shape, known as the dome. In Poland, 72 Baltic peatbogs have been distinguished, with various degrees of transformation, in the coastal zone and lake districts of the South Baltic Sea. None of them has natural water conditions. Their common name indicates significant similarities due to water supply conditions. However, due to the differences in morphology, both primary and secondary (resulting from the different course and scale of anthropogenic transformations), they may be expected to show some variability within the subtype. The aim of the paper is to present the diversity of water-level fluctuations in degraded Baltic raised bogs. An attempt was made to answer the question how strong the diversity of fluctuations is, both within each object and between two objects situated close to each other. Moreover, speed and value of the response of water level to atmospheric precipitation were analysed. The spatial scope of the paper covers two Baltic raised bogs in the lower part of the Łeba River valley: Czarne Bagno and £ebskie Bagno. To answer the questions asked, the results of measurements of water level and precipitation on the peat bogs were used. The study found that both the bogs show high dynamics in the variation of groundwater level. Lowering of the water level on both peatlands has always been recorded in the summer months, whilst its increase, which lasted until spring, has been observed in autumn. The water retention amount and water level on the peatlands were influenced primarily by precipitation. Extreme meteorological conditions that make it less conspicuous is the variation resulting from factors such as location in different parts of the bog, or type of degradation.
