    The purpose of the paper was to synthetically characterise the changes of spatial differentiation of industry innovation in Poland in 2005–2015 in the context of research problems of innovativeness with the use of the cross product. The availability of data limited the scope of the research. For example, innovative activity was presented through the analysis of the share of innovative units in the total number of industrial enterprises and the size of expenditure on innovative activities incurred by industrial enterprises. The analysis of the share of innovative products in the value of total production and net revenues from sales of innovative products in net revenues from total sales was also made. The analyses mentioned were presented against the research and development situation in Poland as a whole and by voivodeship. Research confirmed that significant spatial diversity distinguishes the spatial structure of innovation in Polish industry by voivodeship. Moreover, it is significant that innovative expenditures show low efficiency.Spatial structure of industry innovativeness in Poland was highly stable in the analysed period. The changes in the spatial structure were insignificant and reached only 4% in synthetic terms. More substantial transformations of the structure, often of an abrupt character, concerned only the selected features of industry innovativeness.

    The paper addresses the issue of spatial differentiation in the level of industrial innovativeness in new EU member states from 2008 to 2017, with a particular focus on Poland. The purpose of the study is to attempt to describe changes in the spatial patterns of innovativeness in new EU member states (so-called EU13) and to indicate the position of Poland against the EU13 by using simple vector calculus. The period of analysis resulted from the availability of data. The paper presents matters related to the innovative activities of industrial enterprises and research and development (R&D) in Poland and other new EU member states. Selected features of innovativeness are shown as a relationship between expenditure and effect. The research confirms that the spatial pattern of industrial innovativeness in the EU13 significantly varies spatially between states. It is noteworthy that in the analysed period, the level of innovativeness in the Polish economy was relatively low compared to all EU countries as well as among the EU13. Moreover, the high growth figures obtained by Poland in most of the analysed features related to industrial innovativeness deserve to be emphasised. In 2008–2017 spatial differences in expenditure on R&D in the sector of industrial enterprises as well as their effects were highly stable.

    This article aims to identify changes in the industry’s patterns in innovativeness and show its spatial diversity based on the example of the largest urban centres in Dolnośląskie Voivodeship. An assessment of the level of concentration of industrial activity was used as the basis for identifying these processes. The range of issues used for analysis depended on data availability, especially at the local level. The analysis of industrial activities’ location was carried out based on entities registered in Section C (Manufacturing) of the Polish Classification of Economic Activities. The spatial patterns of industrial innovativeness were presented using the classification of manufacturing according to R&D levels. The research results indicate significant changes between 2009 and 2019 in the spatial patterns for both the voivodeship and its urban areas regarding the industry’s concentration and specialisation. At the same time, this was accompanied by a decrease in industrial production. Dolnośląskie Voivodeship shows a significant spatial diversification in such concentration and specialisation. The patterns identified indicate the growing role of the area surrounding Wrocław as one of intensive infiltration of industrial activities from the main centre. These processes are also found in smaller urban centres of the voivodeship; however, this infiltration is selective.

    Zmiany strukturalne i innowacyjność produkcji przynoszą wzrost wydajności pracy i mają pozytywny wpływ na wzrost gospodarczy krajów i ich poszczególnych regionów. Celem opracowania jest ukazanie wybranych zagadnień dotyczących przemian w strukturze i poziomie innowacyjności tradycyjnie wysoko uprzemysłowionego regionu Śląska (trzech województw: dolnośląskiego, opolskiego i śląskiego) oraz dokonanie oceny stopnia zmian przestrzennych przemysłu w skali całego analizowanego obszaru w okresie 2005–2012. Zakres przyjętych do obserwacji zagadnień uzależniony był od dostępności danych na poziome lokalnym. W artykule zaprezentowano analizy dotyczące przemian w strukturze przestrzennej Śląska: pracujących w przemyśle, wartości produkcji sprzedanej przemysłu, wartości dodanej brutto. Badanie działań innowacyjnych w województwach i powiatach regionu Śląska zostało przeprowadzone na podstawie czterech wskaźników. Charakteryzują one: aktywność innowacyjną, nakłady na nią, jej efektywność w postaci przychodów z produkcji wyrobów nowych lub istotnie ulepszonych oraz stopień wyposażenia w środki automatyzacji produkcji. Wymienione parametry były podstawą do skonstruowania syntetycznych wskaźników przemian strukturalnych i innowacyjności, które ilustrują konkurencyjność intraregionalną powiatów Śląska. Analizy dotyczące przemian strukturalnych i innowacyjności przemysłu Śląska zaprezentowano w odniesieniu do sytuacji ogólnokrajowej, umożliwiającej określenie pozycji regionu na tle kraju.
    Structural changes and production innovation lead to an increase in labour productivity and have a positive impact on the economic growth of country and its regions. The aim of the study is to present selected issues relating to changes in the structure and the level of innovativeness in Silesia, highly industrialized region in south western Poland (the region covers three voivodeships: Lower Silesian, Opole and Silesian). Furthermore, assess the degree of spatial changes of industry in the whole analyzed area in the period 2005–2012 has been done. The scope of the analysis depends on the availability of data on local level. The article presents an analysis on the changes of the spatial differentiation of selected indicators in Silesia, like working in industry, production, value of industrial output, gross value added. Analysis of innovative activities in voivodeships (= provinces) in Poland and in the poviats (= counties) of Silesian region was based on four indicators, which characterize innovation activity, expenditure on it, its effectiveness as revenues from the production of new or substantially improved products and the level of fitting with the means of manufacturing automation. These parameters were used to construct a synthetic indicator of structural changes and innovation that illustrates the intra-regional competitiveness of the poviats. Analysis of structural changes and innovation of the industry of Silesia is presented in relation to other voivodeships what allows to determine the position of the region to the rest of the country.

    The article is devoted to the problem of spatial diversity of the concentration of industry process and accompanying specialisation in Dolnośląskie Voivodeship in the years 2005–2016.The aim of the study is to assess the level of development of the aforementioned processes. The scope of the research was limited by the availability of data. The paper presents analysis regarding the value of sold production of industry, working in industrial activity or spatial structure of the entities of industrial processing according to the intensity of research and development works. The study also presents the dynamics of the variables involved in the analysis. The results of the conducted research indicate significant changes that took place in 2005–2016 in the region in terms of concentration and industry specialisation. At the same time, the changes were accompanied by a decrease in the level of concentration of industrial production. Dolnośląskie Voivodeship is characterised by considerable spatial differentiation of concentration processes and industry specialisation. The largest increase in industrial production was characteristic for poviats located directly in the vicinity of the main urban centres of the region. The identified regularities indicate the growing role of the whole area of the suburban area, especially of Wrocław, as an area of intensive diffusion of industrial activity from the central area. This diffusion is, however, selective.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest problematyce przestrzennego wymiaru i zróżnicowania procesu koncentracji przemysłu oraz towarzyszącej mu specjalizacji w województwie dolnośląskim w latach 2005–2016.Celem opracowania jest dokonanie oceny stopnia rozwoju wspominanych procesów. Zakres przyjętych do analiz zagadnień uzależniony był od dostępności danych, szczególnie na poziome lokalnym. W artykule zaprezentowano analizy dotyczące m.in. wartości produkcji sprzedanej przemysłu, pracujących w działalności przemysłowej czy struktury przestrzennej podmiotów przetwórstwa przemysłowego według intensywnościprac badawczo-rozwojowych. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano także dynamikę przyjętych do analizy zmiennych. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań wskazują na istotne zmiany, jakie nastąpiły w latach 2005–2016 w strukturze przestrzennej regionu w zakresie koncentracji i specjalizacji przemysłu. Towarzyszyło im jednocześnie obniżenie poziomu koncentracji produkcji przemysłowej. Województwo dolnośląskie cechuje się znacznym zróżnicowaniem przestrzennym procesów koncentracji i specjalizacji działalności przemysłowej. Największy przyrost produkcji przemysłowej był charakterystyczny dla powiatów bezpośrednio zlokalizowanych w sąsiedztwie głównych ośrodków miejskich regionu. Zidentyfikowane prawidłowości wskazują na rosnącą rolę całego obszaru strefy podmiejskiej, szczególnie Wrocławia, jako terenu intensywnego przenikania działalności przemysłowej z ośrodka centralnego. Przenikanie to ma jednak charakter selektywny.

    Rosnąca złożoność procesów społeczno-gospodarczych sprawia, iż cechą charakterystyczną współczesnych przedsiębiorstw jest pogłębiający się proces ich internacjonalizacji, co oznacza wzrost ich powiązań ekonomicznych i finansowych z zagranicą. Celem tego opracowania jest ukazanie wybranych zagadnień dotyczących działalności gospodarczej podmiotów z kapitałem zagranicznym w województwie dolnośląskim, przedstawienie ich przestrzennego zróżnicowania oraz ocena stopnia wpływu kapitału zagranicznego na regionalną gospodarkę w latach 2008–2012. Zakres przyjętych do analiz zagadnień uzależniony był od dostępności danych, szczególnie na poziomie lokalnym. W artykule zaprezentowano analizy struktury podmiotów z udziałem kapitału zagranicznego wg udziału pracujących, wielkości kapitału zagranicznego na mieszkańca, nakładów inwestycyjnych na mieszkańca, wartości eksportu i importu per capita. Powyższe parametry zaprezentowano w układach lokalnych województwa dolnośląskiego, z określeniem ich przestrzennego zróżnicowania i natężenia. Stały się one następnie podstawą do ujęcia poziomu intraregionalnego zróżnicowania całego obszaru (wg powiatów) pod względem syntetycznego wskaźnika wpływu kapitału zagranicznego na gospodarkę województwa. Omawiane procesy i zagadnienia dotyczące kapitału zagranicznego na obszarze Dolnego Śląska zaprezentowano również w odniesieniu do sytuacji ogólnokrajowej.
    The increasing complexity of socio-economic processes makes it a hallmark of modern enterprises is deepening the process of internationalization, which means an increase in their economic and financial relations with foreign countries.The aim of the study is to present selected issues concerning the economic activity of entities with foreign capital in Lower Silesian voivodeship and of the influence of foreign capital on the Lower Silesia economy in the years 2008-2012. The range adopted for the analysis of issues depended on the availability of data, particularly on the local level. The article presents the analysis of the structure of entities with foreign capital according to the share of the employed, the size of foreign capital per capita, capital investment per capita, the value of exports and imports per capita. These parameters are presented in local systems of Lower Silesia specifying their spatial differentiation and intensity. They then became the basis for recognition of the level of intraregional differentiation of the whole area (by poviats) in terms of the synthetic indicator of foreign capital impact on the economy of the region. These processes and issues of foreign capital in Lower Silesia, was also presented with regard to the situation nationwide.

    Artykuł podejmuje problematykę oceny działalności przemysłowej w czasie trwania pandemii SARS‑CoV-2 w Polsce w układzie województw. Celem opracowania jest identyfikacja wpływu pandemii SARS‑CoV-2 w latach 2020–2021 na działalność przemysłową oraz określenie jej konsekwencji w strukturze przestrzennej przemysłu w poszczególnych województwach. Zakres omawianych zagadnień był uzależniony od dostępności danych, zwłaszcza na poziome regionalnym. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano analizy dotyczące podstawowych cech charakteryzujących działalność przemysłową, takich jak wartość produkcji sprzedanej przemysłu, liczba pracujących, wartość wskaźnika ogólnego klimatu koniunktury w przetwórstwie przemysłowym. Dopełnieniem analiz struktury regionalnej przemysłu były badania przeżywalności podmiotów, mierzone liczbą podmiotów podejmujących działalność w przemyśle i liczbą podmiotów wyrejestrowanych. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań wskazują na wyraźny wpływ pierwszej fali koronawirusa (II kwartał 2020 r.) na podstawowe parametry działalności przemysłowej. W okresie pandemicznym (między IV kwartałem 2019 r. a II kwartałem 2021 r.) struktura przestrzenna przemysłu w Polsce odznaczała się dużą stabilnością – zmieniła się jedynie w niespełna 3%. Pomimo dużej stabilności struktura ta podlegała jednak pewnym wahaniom. Największe zmiany dokonały się pomiędzy II kwartałem 2020 r. a II kwartałem 2019 r. Zasadniczą cechą zachodzących zmian strukturalnych jest relatywne zmniejszanie się dysproporcji pomiędzy rozdziałem produkcji przemysłowej na poszczególne województwa Polski.
    The article deals with the issue of the assessment of industrial activity during the SARS‑CoV-2 pandemic in Poland by voivodeship. The aim of the study is to identify the scale of the impact of the SARS‑CoV-2 pandemic period in the years 2020–2021 on industrial activity and to determine the consequences in the spatial structure of industry in the system of voivodeships in Poland. The scope of issues adopted for analysis depended on the availability of data, especially at the regional level. The study presents analyses of the basic features characterising industrial activity, i.e. the value of industrial production, the number of employees, the number of entities registered in industrial activity, or the value of the general economic climate indicator in manufacturing. The analyses of the regional structure of industry were complemented by the survey of the survival rate of entities, measured by the number of entities undertaking activities in industry and the number of entities deregistered in the quarters of the analysed period. The results of the conducted research indicate a clear effect of the impact of the first wave of COVID-19 cases (Q2 2020) on the basic parameters of industrial activity. During the pandemic period (Q4 2019 and Q2 2021), the spatial structure of industry in Poland was characterised by high stability, it changed only by less than 3%. Despite high stability, the spatial structure of industrial production was, however, subject to certain fluctuations. The largest changes in the spatial structure of industrial production took place between Q2 2020 and Q2 2019 – 4%. The essential feature of the ongoing structural changes is the relative reduction of disproportions between the distribution of industrial production to individual Polish voivodeships.
