Opis:
In 2015, the WHO Centre for Health Development established an international team of researchers to study cases of Community-Based Social Innovations that Support Older People in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. The key criterion for the selection of the analyzed projects was the direct involvement of institutional and non-institutional representatives of local communities in the implementation of projects whose main purpose was to support and activate older people. The conceptual and methodological assumptions did not refer to the idea of co-production. However, the conceptual apparatus used and the scope of the conducted exploration justify attempts to determine the potential for occurrence of the senior co-production within these initiatives. The “senior” character of the potential co-production was deliberately emphasized here, because in the presented analysis, the author focused mainly on the characteristics of activities undertaken by elderly people who each time constituted a group of basic beneficiaries (recipients) of organized services.

Opis:
The problem of violence is still a challenge for all environments involved in providing support and assistance for families. Despite many social and governmental programs to counteract the abuse of family members, violence is still present in the everyday life of many women, children, the elderly and the disabled. This study focuses primarily on the old age and the disability related to it, which are important risk factors that expose to violence and degrading treatment. The aim of the research was a preliminary diagnosis of the occurrence of simultaneous experience of many forms of violence by seniors with disabilities. The obtained results indicate that 36% of the seniors with disabilities participating in the study experience multiple victimization and that the level of elders’ education, their place of residence and financial situation show a statistically significant relationship with the experience of multiple victimisation.

The demography of aging raises questions that answering to will be important for effective, comprehensive care for the elderly and their aging caregivers. Predictions for the future of our society require analyzing different problems: who are long-living people? Will the quality and quantity of services in this area be adequate Why is medical care not always linked to the protection of the mental needs of the patients? But also how is the environmental psychological care over caregivers of older people being formed? Developing a theoretical model of comprehensive senior care and linking it with already existing practice methods can facilitate the interaction of many of its sectors to effectively address the challenges of a “gray society”.

Opis:
On of the results of demographic changes is, on the one hand – an increasing number of seniors needing care and, on the other hand – a decreasing number of their potential informal carers. Poland, in the matter of senior care, is still a conservative country, where a family is the main institution of care, and where it is also a cultural norm and a moral duty to care about senior family members. However, a family carer may not manage to deal with the number of roles he or she should perform, especially when they are and wish to remain professionally active. The current article is a review of the issue of family care. Firstly, it shows the problems faced by informal carers when undertaking the new role. Secondly, it shows that not self-sufficient seniors in the so-called phase old-old age do not need to stay at home and therefore be socially excluded. They can also remain active.

Opis:
The decision to take responsibility for the care of seniors is largely conditioned by social and cultural factors. In the article, the correlation between collectivism/individualism and taking care of the elderly is described with the example of selected countries. The second part of the article is the analysis of social and cultural factors that have an impact on Poles’ opinions about institutional care and family obligations to elders. In the third part, new trends and social changes that will affect decisions regarding the care of the elderly are presented. There are clear differences between countries with a collectivist culture (where elderly care is the responsibility of family members), and the countries that value individualism (where institutional care is popular). In Poland, there is still social pressure to take care of older family members without institutional support, but the demographic situation and migration will change this attitude and popularize nonfamilial care.

In an ageing society, problems of the people aged 60 years or over take an important place in the social policy. The State should be prepared for various implications, both positive and negative, of the ageing of the population, and should treat the potential problems of citizens as a challenge and an opportunity for the development of social policy, and within its framework, of the policy aimed at the senior citizens. As the senior citizens constitute an important age group. This type of policy should be focused on both early and late old age people, addressing their different needs and expectations. This article attempts to show the challenges and the role of social policy addressed to the seniors, both at the early and advanced old age, especially at the local community level. The impact of the article is analysed in the three dimensions described, i.e. a brief outline of the ageing of the population from a demographic perspective, social policy towards seniors at the early and advanced old age, the people aged 60 and over and their resources as a challenge to for the local policy.
