    Rev. Franciszek Dziasek, S.Th.D. was a lecturer of the Archbishop’s Seminary in Poznan from 1950 to 1964. In his lectures, Introduction to Theological Sciences, step by step he justifies claims of theology to be science in the university sense. From the reception of his lectures we learn that he was living with what he preached. In the integral view of the two realities, [theologian and his knowledge] we are shown a trait of theology wisdom, which shows its specificity as the queen of sciences. A Poznan lecturer argues that theology is a science in the ordinary sense of the word. It is also the science of sui generis, because it derives its data from a revelation that is credible in the community of the Church.

    This article expounds the rediscovered and unpublished manuscript by Father Franciszek Mirek God Christ and the People. A Sociological Study. Father Franciszek Mirek was the first Polish sociologist who was a member of the group of Florian Zaniecki’s students. The recovered manuscript offers an innovative look at the elements of the history of salvation seen through the eyes of a sociologist. The introduction to the paper presents the profile of Father Franciszek Mirek and his most important works. Further parts present the rediscovered manuscript of Fr. Mirek. On its basis the following issues are discussed: the Bible as a source of sociographic data, people as partners in relationship with Christ, the apogee of relations between God and a man in the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God and faith as a precondition of human communication with God Christ.

    W kontekście postępu procesu synodalnego, który dokonuje się w całym Kościele, podnoszone są niepokojące głosy o możliwej zmianie dotychczasowej doktryny Kościoła. Zdaniem krytyków synodalności chodzi w niej wyłącznie o dostosowanie się do warunków świata bez odwoływania się do objawienia lub przez odcięcie się od niego. Wydaje się jednak, że w zamyśle papieża Franciszka istota synodalności sprowadza się do głębszego i realizowanego z większym zapałem działania misyjnego. Kościół pozostaje znakiem zbawienia dla wszystkich narodów, lecz musi wciąż poszukiwać narzędzi, dzięki którym Ewangelia o Chrystusie dotrze do ludzi i będzie ich pociągać do chrześcijańskiego życia. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest rozpatrzenie synodalności w kontekście natury Kościoła oraz wskazanie, co – według papieża – składa się na jej istotę. Pierwsza część artykułu analizuje Lumen gentium, zaś druga odwołuje się do nauczania Franciszka.
    In the context of the progress of the synodal process that is taking place throughout the Church, disturbing voices are being raised about a possible change in the Church’s existing doctrine. According to critics of synodality, it is concerned only with adapting to the conditions of the world without referring to revelation or by cutting itself off from it. It seems, however, that in Pope Francis’ intention, the essence of synodality boils down to a deeper and more enthusiastic missionary activity. The Church remains a sign of salvation for all nations, but it must continue to search for the tools through which the Gospel of Christ will reach people and draw them into the Christian life. The aim of this article is to consider synodality in the context of the nature of the Church and to indicate what, according to the Pope, constitutes its essence. The first part of the article analyses Lumen Gentium, while the second part refers to the teaching of Francis.

    The culture of encounter is among favourite themes of Pope Francis’s teaching. Nowadays, in the face of ever increasing feeling of ‘spiritual orphanage’, manifested by the disappearance of closeness and tenderness, he calls for Christians to go out and meet with people. At the same time, he points to Mary as the promoter of the culture of encounter. This very article is devoted to Her. I follow in the Pope’s footsteps, who distinguishes three elements of a meeting in the Gospel scene of Mary’s visit to Elisabeth: ‘Mary goes, Mary encounters, Mary rejoices’. These elements define the fundamental structure of the reflections presented here. This is about showing that Mary inspires us to go out to others, to show them closeness and tenderness, which restore the true joy of life.
    Kultura spotkania należy do ulubionych tematów nauczania papieża Franciszka. W obliczu narastającego współcześnie poczucia „duchowego sieroctwa”, które przejawia się w zanikaniu doświadczenia bliskości i czułości, nawołuje on chrześcijan do wychodzenia i spotykania się z ludźmi. Wskazuje jednocześnie na Maryję jako promotorkę kultury spotkania. Właśnie Jej poświęcony jest artykuł. Podążam w nim za papieżem, który w ewangelicznej scenie nawiedzenia Elżbiety przez Maryję wyróżnia trzy elementy spotkania: „Maryja idzie, Maryja spotyka, Maryja się raduje”. Wyznaczają one zasadniczą strukturę przedkładanych refleksji. Chodzi w nich o ukazanie, że Maryja inspiruje nas w wychodzeniu ku innym, okazywaniu im bliskości i czułości, które przywracają radość życia.

    In the modern world, where humility does not enjoy much esteem, Francis takes up the motif of Mary’s humility. He maintains that She is the most humble among all creation. This is the secret of Her heart. Mary’s beauty and success result not only from the fullness of grace bestowed upon Her by God, but also from the fact that She did not focus on Herself or admire Herself but instead She turned to God and neighbours. The article looks closely at Mary’s humility according to Pope Francis in order to discover the originality of his interpretation. It is composed of three points. The first one addresses the question of why Mary’s humility drew God’s attention. The second point presents basic features and manifestations of Mary’s humility. The third point brings to light a model nature of Mary’s humility, that is in what sense She is a “golden rule” for Christians. At the end of the article conclusions are presented. They point out that Francis’s approach to Mary’s humility is somewhat different from the common approach, because he sees in it not only an attribute of faith, but for him it is a point of departure and the origin of faith. The Pope’s reflections are of theological and pastoral nature, because he is focused on Christian practice. He assumes that our following Mary’s humility willoppose dangerous spiritual worldliness and will considerably contribute to creating ‘new humanism’.

    Pope Francis in his encyclical reminded us that Lumen fidei contains abundant material truth about the need of the development of a comprehensive religious awareness based on man’s inborn senses. Simultaneously he pointed at their grounding and fulfillment in a person’s practical choices, particularly those pertaining to confidence in and faithfulness to God. Here actual exercise of the attributes of listening and seeing opens the prospect of the perception of something more besides the materially discernible object. This creates the possibility of bringing closer to view the supernatural reality, and at the same time frees a person from a unilateral attachment to transient values. Finally, the gift of listening and seeing performs the only and unique function of actively enriching the inner life of the individual human with the presence and action of God.

    Mutual relations between the universal Church and local Churches belong to topics whose meaning increases and which return systematically in theological discussions. Hence also the short pontifi- cate of Pope Francis is not deprived of certain elements that allow a different view of the issue of the liaison between the two ecclesial communities. The article presents Francis’ view on the relation- ship between the universal Church and local Churches, showing the dependence of papal views on the theological thinking of Cardinal Walter Kasper. At the same time, two additional issues (Peter’s primacy and the formulation of the particular Church) are indicated, which are important for the papal ecclesiology.

    What has Rome to do with Silicon Valley? In other words, what has the Church today to do with science and technology? Does the Church have any interest in a debate with the present scientifi c and technical progress, of which Silicon Valley is a symbol? The aim of my research is to look for a new idea of technological progress that will allow to build an integral vision of reality. The teaching of Pope Francis, especially in the Encyclical ‘Laudato sí’ (2015), provides the basis for the undertaken topic. The structure of the considerations refers to the principles of the social doctrine of the so-called three steps: look, judge, act. Therefore, in the course of the considerations fi rstly ZWISCHEN ROM UND SILICON VALLEY 69 the features of technical progress will be presented (1), then its evaluation (2), and fi nally elements of an integral vision of reality (3).
    Co Rzym ma wspólnego z Doliną Krzemową? Innymi słowy, co Kościół ma współcześnie wspól- nego z nauką i technologią? Jak Kościół odnosi się do problematyki postępu naukowo-technicz- nego, którego symbolem jest Dolina Krzemowa? Celem podjętych rozważań jest poszukiwanie nowej koncepcji postępu technicznego, uwzględniającej całościową wizję rzeczywistości. Naucza- nie papieża Franciszka, zwłaszcza z Encykliki Laudato si’ (2015), stanowi podstawę realizacji wybranego tematu. Struktura rozważań nawiązuje do zasad nauki społecznej tzw. trzech kroków: zbadać, ocenić, działać. Dlatego w trakcie rozważań są prezentowane najpierw cechy postępu tech- nicznego (1), dokonana jego ocena (2), a następnie elementy integralnej wizji rzeczywistości (3).

    The article shows the profiles of the seven blessed of the Archdiocese of Poznań, and passages from their memoirs. The author tries to discover the timeless features of the secular model of sanctity in the hagiographies of Edmund Bojanowski, Czesław Jóźwiak, Franciszek Kęsy, Edward Kaźmierski, Jarogniew Wojciechowski, Edward Klinik and Natalia Tułasiewiczówna. The article shows ineach of the seven biographies the path of gradual maturation in faith embedded in the historical context of events crucial for Poland. A common feature of all the characters is their strong commitment to the cause of education and patriotism based on a solid religious and moral foundation.

    Obecny wzrost populacji osób starszych staje się nowym wyzwaniem dla teologii, w tym szczególnie antropologii teologicznej i teologii pastoralnej. Problem ten nie jest obcy aktualnemu nauczaniu papieskiemu. Świadczy o tym wyrażana przez papieży św. Jana Pawła II (1978–2005), Benedykta XVI (2005–2013) i Franciszka (2013–) troska o człowieka w podeszłym wieku w okolicznościowych przemówieniach, katechezach i homiliach. Zaangażowanie w promocję pozytywnej wizji starości i obronę godności osób starszych jest szczególnie obecne w nauczaniu papieża Franciszka. Celem artykułu była próba ukazania w świetle najnowszych rozważań papieża Franciszka o starości, z okazji ustanowienia 25 lipca 2021 roku Światowego Dnia Dziadków i Osób Starszych, jego wkładu w chrześcijańską teologię starości. W toku prowadzonych rozważań zostały kolejno przedstawione: współczesne formy wykluczenia osób starszych (1); potrzeba współpracy i solidarności między osobami starszymi i młodymi (2) oraz znaczenie pamięci osób starszych dla przyszłości człowieka (3).
    The current growth of the population of the elderly is a new challenge for theology, especially for theological anthropology and pastoral theology. This problem is also a theme of great importance in papal teaching. It shows care about the elderly in the occasional speeches, catechesis and sermons of popes St. John Paul II (1978–2005), Benedict XVI (2005–2013) and Francis (2013–). This paper analysis the teaching of Pope Francis, presenting essential aspects of his theology of aging as well as his contribution to the Christian theology of aging. In the light of recent papal reflections on the World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly were presented essential aspects of his theology of aging as well as his contribution to the Christian theology of aging. This article demonstrated in sequence: firstly, contemporary forms of exclusion of older people (1); then the need for cooperation and solidarity between old and young (2) and finally the importance of the memories of the elderly for the future of mankind (3).
