Opis:
The author discusses the reception of Olga Tokarczuk’s works in Romania on the basis of translations, critical essays and radio and press interviews. Olga Tokarczuk is the best-known contemporary writer from Central Europe in Romania, thanks to numerous translations (almost all of her novels have been translated into Romanian, except The Books of Jacob, due to be published next year). An important role in the dissemination of her works has been played by the Polirom publishing house in Iași, which published a special series devoted to Tokarczuk. The quality of the translations of the Polish novelist’s texts is also high. Particular credit for this goes to Cristina Godun, a specialist in Polish Studies, who has managed to render the peculiarities of Tokarczuk’s narrative and style in Romanian. The paper also briefly discusses the difficulties encountered during the translation of Tokarczuk’s texts.

Opis:
Seen through the perspective of reception, the works of Witold Gombrowicz constitute a wide range of receptive proposals, selectively updated in the constant dynamic of the interactive discourse between the literary subject and the reader. The reader is invited in a covert partnership with his communication peer (the author–the producer) in their joint journey to the own polyphonic, unidentifiable, mutational ego. The relation to the self, as permanently disputed by otherness, finds its artistic application through the comic as the most powerful weapon against the Form, both in the field of the author and of the recipient.

Research on Czesław Miłosz’s works conducted in Lithuania, although not very intense, is mainly focused on the Lithuanian issues. One major trend prevails among Lithuanian re-searchers – an attempt to treat a substantial part of Miłosz’s works as autobiographical. Lithuanian translations of the works of Czesław Miłosz were explored in the article. The author poses the question whether works of the Nobel Laureate in any way shape and develop self-awareness of the inhabitants of Lithuania and if they help them to comprehend the diversity of the country as well as its complicated history, multiculturalism and multilingualism.

Opis:
The article aims to present one of the most popular yet at the same time often misunderstood novels by Witold Gombrowicz – Ferdydurke. The article claims that the most important motif in Gombrowicz’s works is the problem with Form and in Ferdydurke the writer tackles this very subject. This novel – though not very long – is a complex and rich analysis of Form related to human life. The concept of Form is the key to an adequate understanding of Ferdydurke: it justifies unusual formal strategies and linguistic means used by the writer. It also explains a complicated plot and proves that what used to be regarded as chaos is in fact an intended strategy used in a logical and consequential way. The article is addressed above all to those, who being unfamiliar with Gombrowicz’s creativity, regard it as strange and incomprehensible. It proves that at least in the case of Ferdydurke this is not true and it is worth reading Gombrowicz’s works once again, as the world created by the writer is fascinating and multidimensional.

The article is dedicated to the reception of Czesław Miłosz’s works in Ukraine at the beginning of democratic transformations and today. The author concentrates attention mostly on two aspects: translations and critical and journalistic discourse. This enables her to indicate the specificity of the way the Polish thinker and writer’s works have been received by Ukrainian readers. Having analyzed the above mentioned issues in diachronic perspective, the author is able to present changes and main tendencies in Ukrainian reception of Czesław Miłosz’s works over time.

Opis:
This article presents the changes through history in the reception of The Captive Mind by Czesław Miłosz. The book was published in 1953, first of all for the foreign readers. There were editions in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish. However, it mainly evoked emotions of Poles at home and on emigration. After the 1989, with the first legal mass edition, we observed a decrease of interest in Poland for the Miłosz’s text. It has become a classical work, it kept up didactic function. On the other hand, the world response argues, through universal interpretations and new translations in 21th century (a Belorussian, Russian, Turkish, Catalan, Serbian), that the Miłosz’s propositions are current and attractive outside Poland, in other geopolitical conditions.

Polish literature in Korea
Opis:
The history of translating Polish literature in South Korea goes almost 100 years back. In the article Polish literary works translated into Korean have been presented in chronological order. The first Polish literary work offered to Korean readers was Quo vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz. It was translated from Japanese into Korean language in 1916. Since then Kore-an translators have been presenting Polish literature to their compatriots almost constantly and in many different ways. This also applies to the very difficult moments in the history of Korea such as Japanese occupation (1910–1940) or so called „cold war” period. Around 70 works of Polish literature have been published in Korea so far (not mentioning re¬ editions and several different translations of the same work). Some works have been published several times, translated by different people and published by different publishing houses (for example Quo vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz, Eighth day of a week by Marek Hłasko, Solaris by Stanisław Lem).

Opis:
The article deals with the different levels of reception of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s ‘Christian epic’ Quo Vadis in Bulgaria. It focuses on an issue which is of exceptional interest in the Bulgarian context: Quo Vadis is amongst the most widely read and translated novels of the world classics and yet has not been integrated in the ‘repertoire’ of Bulgarian literary science and thought. According to some research statistics its scale of reception is phenomenological, but it has not impacted our literary tradition of novel writing. This is a paradox, which can only be explained as a result of the specificity of the intellectual and religious experience of the Bulgarian people.

The aim of the article is to present the position of Brazilian poetry in the Polish literary system using the examples of translations of poems by Carlos Drummond de Andrade. A library query has proved him to be the Brazilian poet whose works are most frequently translated into Polish. However, he remains little known in Poland, which results from both: lack of the representative publications in the mainstream and the quality of translations.

Opis:
This paper presents the most important aspects of the reception of four novels by Olga Tokarczuk translated into Romanian, on the basis of reviews published in the Romanian literary press. The topics addressed most frequently by Romanian reviewers include the topos of journey, the contemporary human condition within the framework of everyday life, the axiological system of Olga Tokarczuk’s narrative world, the rich imagination, the fragmentary narrative, and the tendency to cross interdisciplinary boundaries. An amazing imagination, an exceptional literary talent, surprising combinations and multifaceted protagonists are only some of the elements of Olga Tokarczuk’s writing praised by Romanian reviewers. Tokarczuk’s novels are appreciated in Romania due to both the relevance of their themes, however uncomfortable they might be, and their great ability to translate such tough topics into literature.
