Opis:
The aim of the article is to compare the two different modes of regarding and describing Braga observed in Adolf Pawiński’s and Oswald Crawfurd’s works on Portugal. The Polish description is based on visual perception, while in a work by the English author other senses (hearing, taste and smell) are equally important. Therefore it might be assumed that Pawiński represents a more traditional style of travelling, while Crawfurd behaves in a way typical for modern tourists.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to describe the way in which Tomasz Łychowski defines the phenomenon of emigration in his poems from the volume Spojrzenia (Glances, 2016). Emigration is not only regarded from different perspectives here, but the author also plays with the traditional image of an emigrant. In his poetry Tomasz Łychowski promotes the idea of unity in multiplicity and the value of diversity.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to analyse the way in which Seweryn Korzeliński and Bolesław Dolański describe the geographical location of Australia (the distance that separates it from Europe). In many reports from Australia and literary texts describing the continent, written either before or after Korzeliński’s and Dolański’s memoirs, the distance that separates Australia from Europe is considered the main characteristic feature that determines the way in which other Australian phenomena are regarded. The article discusses the interesting way in which the two authors present Australian geographical location and the purpose this literary interpretation serves in their memoirs.

Interviews gathered in this section present multilateral vision of Polish Philology, regarded from various perspectives, that concern both chances and risks that Polish Philology is facing at the moment, traditional and modern approaches as two angles shaping its identity, changes in scientific, didactic and legal organization of studies that have either already become (or will become in the nearest future) its part. Speakers also attempt to indicate the importance of closer cooperation between Polish philologists in Poland and abroad in the process of ‘reconstructing’ the faculty and discipline. Attention has also been paid to the Congress itself as the speakers attempt to answer the question whether it has reached its goals and which postulate raised during the Congress should be regarded as the most important one. In the interview with Professor Danuta Opacka-Polish Philology, PhD studies, Congress of PolonistsWalasek the issue of organizing PhD studies and challenges that those responsible for this level of education face at the moment has been discussed. Professor Włodzimierz Bolecki on the other hand discussed the changed imple-mented by the new Law of Higher Education and its consequences for Polonists.
