The year 1989 spelt in Poland and in many other European countries, which were in the orbit of Soviet influence, the beginning of revolutionary changes: political, economic, social and cultural ones. These changes influenced also the Polish language which has changed radically over the last 20 years with the greatest changes occurring in the language of politics. Nowadays, the language testifies to a diversified way of talking about public affairs, it constitutes a spectrum within which different registers and styles merge. The instability of the Polish political scene, abundance of political parties, and a constant flux in the sphere of parliamentary groupings and government coalitions are found among the most important reasons for this linguistic variety. In the language of contemporary politics the lexis is particularly extensive and includes thousands of words referring to the public life of the Poles. The major point of the article is the claim that in reality the language of contemporary politics is getting impoverished, it loses its elegance and becomes more and more primitive. The author looks for an explanation to this pauperization in the trends of contemporary culture. He shows main features of the phenomenon: a turn towards commonness and informality, emotionality of expressions, hermetic vision of the world, impossibility of a dialogue and an increase in populist attitudes.

The stability of the political programmes and election platforms and image of politicians is a very important research question in political science. The issues are also very important components of the voters’ decision making process. The voters judge the potential of politi-cians this way. The Real Politics Union is attached to liberal and conservative conceptions and cannot reach higher levels of awareness of voters and also cannot achieve regular election success. There are two kinds of obstacles, with the first being the image of the party and its leaders (tenacity, stubbornness, lack of confidence) and the second are the several objective elements (parties financing system, media silence, the electoral system). The article tries to give a partial answer to the problem of the functioning of small, extra-parliamentary parties and their efforts to enter the mainstream of Polish political arena.

The image of women representing the world of politics, seen on the covers of selected Polish weekly magazines in the years 2014–2015, is the area of interest in this article. The conducted analysis helped to determine the dominance of occurrence and the way of portraying human beings, with special attention paid to the female gender, on the covers of 9 magazines („Do Rzeczy”, „Gazeta Polska”, „W Sieci”, „Polityka”, „Wprost”, „Newsweek Polska”, „Przegląd”, „Tygodnik Powszechny”, „Gość Niedzielny”). An essential part of these deliberations was focused on women involved in political life. The method of presenting female politicians was identified, and the names of those most frequently appearing on the covers of analyzed weekly magazines were indicated. Further endeavor was made to grasp the role of the female gender in modern politics, by using the method of imaging, visible on the covers of chosen weekly magazines.

The Article concerns the ethical dilemmas faced by political journalists. This prob-lem has been discussed in the context of the complaints which have been considered by the Council of Ethics of the Media, the decisions of the Commission of Ethics in TVP, as well as on the example of several case studies, in which some abuses of journalistic ethics are stated. The method of analysis was a content analysis. With the presented analysis of complaints and matters relating to political jour-nalists, it appears that journalists violate ethical standards: manipulate facts and images, use rumours and unverified information, affecting the personal rights and the privacy of non-executive public, do not respect the principles of objectivity and impartiality. There are, however, situations when journalists have suffered punish-ment in the form of dismissal, even though they acted in accordance with ethical principles. In conclusion, the dilemmas of political journalists can be divided into: (1) profes-sional (2) relational, (3) newsrooms, and (4) dilemmas of conscience.

The paper attempts to find the answer to a question for the opposition nature of so-cial movements. The main question is: can we call social movements the opposition? If yes, are all types of movements deserving of this name? Consequently, issues of this paper are regarding the non-institutional politics which is becoming at present more and more significant. Used argumentation in the paper allows for the formulation of the statement that in accepting the appropriate definition of both politics and a social move-ment, we can treat every social movement as an entity belonging to the institutional politics; an entity which meets the conditions of being an opposition. This statement is trying to meet contemporary understanding the politics, and is a response to the ongoing changes in the womb of democratic systems.

In the literature on democratization and autocratization, one of the areas which clearly shows a gap in the theoretical framework is a very important territorial dimension of theseprocesses. This article is aimed at proposing the theoretical approaches based on two main pillars, which can be used in studies on democratization and autocratization at the subnational levels. The first one refers to democracy and changes of political regimes (approaches to democratization / autocratization and more static issues of the quality of democracy and local democracy). The second one refers to the territorial politics, accounting for the multilevel and network governance as well as theories of decentralization. Eventually, the author also presents possible preliminary directions of research, within which the territorial politics can be either an independent, alternatively intervening variable (studies on causes of changes regarding the political regime) or a dependent variable (analysis of effects of these changes).

A key issue for every state is the protection of information about its resources that should not be made public for various reasons, including national security reasons in particular. The article discusses the problem of its lawful protection against unauthorised disclosure in relation to emergency situations. The author claims that the discrepancies in this area result from both the provisions of the Act on the Protection of Classified Information, which allows for excessive arbitrariness, and the shortages caused by the actions of persons working in the public administration sector. A slight amendment to the current legislation, combined with training on the marking of materials that require actual protection, may ensure the systemic enhancement of the protection of classified information and thus, national security, without excessively limiting the transparency of public life.

The aim of the article is to present the theory and practice of elections to local government bodies in Slovenia: above all, the formal conditions of elections as well as the results of the voting carried out so far. The analysis is based on quantitative data retrieved from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and the State Election Commission, as well as qualitative research – interviews with councillors – conducted in selected Slovenian municipalities. The results of the research indicate a relatively high dynamics of changes in Slovenian local politics, including a systematic increase in support for candidates without party affiliation.

The intrigue ridden series, “House of Cards” presents the story of Frank Un-derwood, a “whip” responsible for discipline in the Democratic Party. To follow his ambitious, he appears as a great strategist and diplomat, and demonstrates some unique skills. Unfortunately his actions always get positive results, which has a nega-tive impact on the realism of the series. However all the manipulative techniques used by Underwood and references to “The Prince” by Machiavelli are very authen-tic. This paper discusses the above techniques and instruments implemented by Frank. The fact that the series is very popular and received a great response from the viewers is related to its theme and the way of presenting politics. Although there are mixed reviews when it comes to the realism shown in the “House of Cards”, the viewer seemed to be convinced of a great opportunity presented to look backstage of White House politics.

The target of the analysis of this thesis is the social engineering’ techniques and methods used by politicians during the local election campaign in the Malopolska voi-vodeship in 2014. The article includes selected examples of various election activities, which could be observed in different cities throughout the region. The examination of the thesis embodied those practices, the main purpose of which is to gain trust and support from the electorate, as well as those activities which have unethical and unfair character. Moreover, the media’s participation in the campaign and their influence on the electorate has been analyzed. Fear is one of the strongest motivators. It induces and seals the borderlines between nations, society groups, races, religions, but also family members, students, kids in the neighborhood. We can differ in many things, even strongly conflicting yet with no violence, but when fear appears, especially enforced by lack of responsibility conviction, conflicts turn, step by step into spiral we call “Lucifer Effect”.  Politicians who pursue more control in all spheres of life, claim they need this control to protect “us” from “them”. Such extraordinary controlling measures must be taken because all who disagree with “us” are the enemy – “them”, who threat our safety. Such leaders “play” the role of symbolic John Wayne, inducting fear, which make people insecure and looking for strong – uncompromising leader, who will defend “us” from “them”.
Strach jest jednym z najsilniejszych motywatorów. Tworzy i zamyka granice pomiędzy narodami, grupami społecznymi, rasami, religiami, ale nawet członkami rodziny, studentami, dziećmi z sąsiedztwa. Możemy różnić się w wielu kwestiach, nawet prowadząc do ostrych konfliktów, ale bez przemocy. Natomiast gdy pojawia się strach, szczególnie spotęgowany brakiem poczucia odpowiedzialności, konflikt zmienia się, krok po kroku w spiralę, którą nazywamy "Efektem Lucyfera". Politycy, którzy dążą do kontrolowania wszystkich sfer życia społecznego, twierdzą, że ta kontrola jest im potrzebna, aby chronić "nas" przed "nimi". Tak szczególne sprawowanie kontroli jest konieczne z uwagi na tych którzy z "nami" się nie zgadzają są wrogami - "nimi", zagrażającymi naszemu bezpieczeństwu. Tacy liderzy "odgrywają" rolę symbolicznego Johna Wayne, wzmacniając poczucie strachu, co powoduje, że ludzie czują się zagrożeni, a przez to szukają silnego - bezkompromisowego lidera, który obroni "nas" przed "nimi”.

Celem podjętej analizy jest próba określenia stanowiska redakcji ogólnopolskiego tygodnika katolickiego „Niedziela” w sprawach dotyczących ogólnej sytuacji geopolitycznej po wybuchu wojny na Ukrainie w 2022 r. Materiał badawczy stanowiły drukowane wersje periodyku od 27.02.2022 do 24.04.2022. Wykorzystano metodę analizy zawartości, uzupełnioną o element hermeneutyczny. Tygodnik katolicki „Niedziela” potwierdził oficjalne komunikaty KEP dotyczące sytuacji politycznej po agresji Rosji na Ukrainę w 2022 roku, legitymizował stanowisko premiera Morawieckiego w zakresie prowadzonej przez rząd Zjednoczonej Prawicy polityki bezpieczeństwa i polityki zagranicznej. Periodyk uwierzytelnił stanowisko Stolicy Apostolskiej i papieża Franciszka w sprawie inwazji Rosji na Ukrainę. Podjęte badania zwiększają wartość poznawczą w obszarze komunikowania politycznego Konferencji Episkopatu Polski za pośrednictwem prasy katolickiej.
The aim of the undertaken analysis is an attempt to determine the position of the editors of the nationwide Catholic weekly „Niedziela” on matters concerning the general geopolitical situation after the outbreak of war in Ukraine in 2022. The research material consisted of printed versions of the periodical from February 27, 2022 to April 24, 2022. The research method used was press content analysis, supplemented with a hermeneutical element. The Catholic weekly „Niedziela” confirmed the official communiqués of the Polish Episcopate Conference regarding the political situation after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2022, and legitimized Prime Minister Morawiecki’s position on the United Right’s security and foreign policy. The periodical authenticated the position of the Holy See and Pope Francis on Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The undertaken research increases the cognitive value in the area of political communication of the Polish Bishops’ Conference through the Catholic press.

The aim of the article was to present the attitude of the media in Poland towards the outbreak of one of the most notorious political scandals of recent years. The subject matter of the analysis was the following: politicians' positions against the disclosed „Tape Scandal” presented via the media; the attitude of the Polish media towards this political scandal and the „heroes” of this affair; evaluation of the weekly Wprost's activity. The following research methods were used in the study: analysis of the content of selected media reports focusing on „Tape Scandal”, comparative method and case study. As a result of the analysis of the content of the weekly press, it was verified that the „Tape Scandal” of 2014 caused a political division in the media.
