Opis:
The cumulative fatigue damage caused by uniaxial variable stress is considered. To facilitate the lifetime prediction at complex stress patterns, has been defined an effective stress of constant parameters, claimed to be equivalent to the sequence of original stresses in terms of fatigue life of material. The equivalence conditions are based on the theory of energy transformation systems. To the effective stress the Palmgren-Miner rule is applied. Thereby the cycle counting is not required.

Opis:
Uniaxial non-zero mean stress of constant circular frequency in the high-cycle fatigue regime is considered. It is assumed that equation of the S-N curve and modified Soderberg equation are applicable. For constant-amplitude stress, the fatigue-critical stress amplitude is defined as that which leads to failure during the required design life. For random-amplitude stress, expected values of the fatigue-critical stress amplitude and total fatigue damage accumulated during the required design life are estimated. It is found that the probability of fatigue failure is equal to the probability of exceedance of the fatigue-critical stress amplitude. As an example, for stationary random stress the equivalent random-amplitude stress and probability of fatigue failure are determined.

Opis:
The load capacity of homogeneous, isotropic viscoelastic materials subjected to multiaxial stresses is considered. For this purpose uniaxial equivalent stresses in selected load cases are determined and relevant criteria applied. It is shown that in the case of constant load the yield criterion does not differ from that for perfectly elastic materials. Similar conclusion has been drawn for the fatigue and yield criteria at in-phase and out-of-phase stresses. On the contrary, the criteria derived for viscoelastic materials subjected to periodic loads do not coincide with those for perfectly elastic materials.

Opis:
The fatigue problem induced by wave loads and floater movements of dynamic umbilicals in deepwater is studied. The prediction method of the fatigue life is investigated by considering no-linear local stress due to contact and friction between components of the umbilical. A case study of a dynamic umbilical for 1500 meters depth in South China Sea was presented. The results showed that the more accurate result of the fatigue life was calculated by considering non-linear local stress. The fatigue life by considering local stress with the no-slip assumption was conservative. An obviously longer fatigue life was obtained by considering local stress with the full-slip assumption.

Opis:
Like other means of transport, merchant ships face the problem of increasing requirements concerning the environment protection, which, among other issues, implies the reduction of fuel consumption by the ship. Here, the conventional approach which consists in making use of higher strength steels to decrease the mass of the ship hull can be complemented by the use of new steel structures of sandwich panel type. However, the lack of knowledge and experience concerning, among other issues, fatigue strength assessment of thin-walled sandwich structures makes their use limited. Untypical welds imply the need for individual approach to the fatigue analysis. The article presents the effect of numerical FEM modelling with the aid of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) elements on the results of strain and stress distributions in the areas of toe and root notches of the analysed laser weld. The presented results of computer simulation reveal that modelling of strain and stress states in 2D (instead of full 3D) affects only the results in close vicinity of the notch, and the observed differences rapidly disappear at a distance of 0.05 mm from the bottom of the notch. The obtained results confirm the possibility of use of numerically effective 2D strain and stress state models for analysing the fatigue strength of laser weld according to local approach.
